I seriously need to know how to do the "tiger striping"... I know how to tie-dye mickeys, but wanted to do the black striping this time around! It looks fantastic!!

Thanks for any tips!

I am going to try these for our trip for July 4th. Will see how they turn out with red and blue on white. Planning today 4 adults shirts and a onesie. Fingers crossed!!!

Well it came out pretty darn good, If I do say so myself. Not perfect, but good.

I made 2 more tday and again, I have a problem with bagging it. I can't get it in right without dripping all over the thing.

I never bag mine...I wrap it in plastic wrap and it works better! You rubberband after you ring the shirt out

Yeah. I think its the same thing...but I think cling kind would work better actually. I always have the cheap stuff.
Cool. wanna try make more for me luv them :)

Also someone mentioned the dylon brand of dye did it work for you on the tie-dyes because I'm pretty sure that's all I can get over here as well

I used dharma

Okay so I want to make my spiral one color (or red and white I guess) and my Mickey another color. Would I just dye all the sections the same color? What if I wanted to do two colors? Half and half?

I did it! These were my test shirts - hoping to do red and black for pirate night! pirate: I am SO happy with how my Mickeys came out. Think on the spiral I needed to squeeze a little more dye in the folds for the yellow but over all I like it! Yes, the bullseye is a little faded but thats because its a 50/50 shirt. I think its time we bombard Michaels with emails and ask them to start selling 100% cotton shirts! Got a little messy - there was blue EVERYwhere but I think thats because my shirts were pretty wet when I started dyeing them. Next time, I think Ill throw them in the dryer for a few minutes before putting the rubber bands on after washing them.

If someone asks you why it its important to use 100% cotton shirts - just show them this pic!

Good job, Mainstreet.:thumbsup2 I think you got the dye into the folds very well. When I do multi colored shirts, I alternate the pie pieces with the various colors.

Last time I switched off (green, pink, green, pink) and it didn't come out at all - but then again I KNOW I didn't get enough dye in there. This time I did 3 blue slices and three yellow slices right next to each other. It seemed to work so Im sticking to that!

Yes its always best to use 100% cotton but on a test shirt its ok
I order my shirts from Jiffyshirts dot com and they are very fast to ship!

A huge thankyou for the instructions. I just wanted to show off my shirts. We are only redoing one of them. the kids like them so much we are doing a second set soon!

FYI - All shirts and dye were purchased at Walmart.

I really like your defined mickeys...thats my biggest issue. I can't get that defined.

Well I was doing fabulous till I put it in a bag and it smeared all over itself. What is the trick for that?

We just made tie dye shirts at my son's school an they came out awesome
1 We just stored the shirts on a piece of cardboard after we dyed them. We did six color rainbow spirals and they stayed beautiful and crisp with this method. I'll never bag my tie dyes again!

I thought they had to be bagged to keep the moisture...but I really like your idea......that maybe my new trick. I really need to figure why I can't get the Mickey heads so defined. I seem to be getting worse instead of better.
