Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

Well I tried a second time to tie dye and I used the Jacquard Tie Dye kit.... It is like night and day compared to the Tulip kit.

I love the new shirts that we finished tonight and cannot wait to wear them in November.

Uscgmouse those shirts look good. I should try that kit next time I want to dye. For my next batch, I was thinking of dying some shirts with a vinylmation outline.

The Jaquard kit I got was amazing. It was the larger one in a white box. It says up to 15 shirts but I made 4 and used all the dye. It was super easy and I watched the dvd that came with the kit. It helped.

Good Luck! I would love to see what you come up with!

I've been wanting to order from Dharma, but never get to it. I am fimiliar with that white box, but I always go for the Tulip kit.

We finished ours last night and they turned out really nice. I was a bit dissapointed with how much the color faded though. I'm not sure who made my kit, I got it at Hobby Lobby and it came with some twisty tube that I did not use. If I were to do it again I'd invest in a better kit.

I want to make shirts for our MNSSHP night. I want them to be just orange/purple/black to keep "Halloween-y". Can I just buy certain color dye? Any thoughts????

I ususally use the Tulip dye. With this brand, I know the colors can be purchased individually. Dharma Trading also, sells individual colors. I've never gotten around to ordering from them.

Here are the tie dye shirts we made this weekend. We ended up making 13 total, and then I was out of soda ash (and energy).
I followed the directions from this blog, but I used Tulip brand dye that you can buy at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Walmart.

I bought the tulip kit which came with blue, lime green, and violet. Then I bought an additional separate pack of blue, black, and orange. I mixed the black and orange in 99 cents condiment bottles i bought at Walmart. These worked great. I think they were 10 oz. and I mixed the whole pack of black into it with some salt.

Our trip is in October so we were going for Halloween ish type colors.

These look great. Good job.

Wow, that's a lot of shirts. All of them turned out well. I have a shirt "baking" at the moment. I drew on a vinylmation and attempted a bulls eye pattern. It's tie dye, so it's all a mystery until the rubber bands come off. :hippie:

I'm getting ready to do shirts for my upcoming Christmas trip. Has anyone tried red and green tie dye (mickey head or not)? I'm determined to try it, but I have read that the red and green can run together and get "muddy". Anyone have any tips or suggestions for doing a Xmas tie dye?

Here is DD's shirt for the Elf Run. I'm not fond of the colors. The green was a combination of blue and yellow. The red is not a true red. It is more of an orange red. I used Tulip dye, as I decided to do this spur of the moment. For my next big project, I plan to order Dharma dyes.

DD requested the bullseye pattern.:hippie:

I just happened to catch the right page! Thanks for posting this! I'm glad to see that the green and red didn't bleed into each other and create brown! I ordered Dharma dyes for our tees. I'm dying them on Monday. I'll post results when they are done!

I did two shirts for a woman I work with a couple of years ago and they came out great. Forgot to snap a photo before I gave them to her. I used Dharma dyes - Bright Green and Chinese Red. I also treated the white of the shirt as my third color. So when dying the danish I would leave a thin wedge of white between a wedge of red and green. I wouldn't necessarily follow the wedges created by the rubber bands as my guide for the white- my white wedges were smaller than my green and red wedges. Hope that makes sense. To make this work you really have to get your green and red dye down into the folds of the wedges you are dying, or you will end up with too much white. My friend went with her daughter and they had their picture taken with the Santa that was in the gazebo on the walkway to Paradise Pier. The shirts looked great against the DCA decorations -which at the time used bright cheerful colors- and next to Santa's red coat

My kids and I decided to give the tie dye Mickey shirts a shot. I wish they were a bit brighter but I used Tulip dyes on 50/50 shirts so that's what I get for not reading farther in the thread before purchasing supplies. I'm still debating on using a bleach pen to clean up the lines on the Mickey's since they seem very 'heart' like.
