Ok, I probably did not need to read this just 18 days before our trip but these look awesome. I can already tell you what we will be doing on our day off tomorrow if I show this to DD!

We just did this again tonight & it was fun but didn't turn out perfectly. I have a tutorial of sorts on how I then bleached the Mickey heads on. You should try it, you'd like it.

Just click on my pre-trippie in my sig. & go to the last post which I posted just a few seconds ago.

Have fun. I think we'll be down there almost at the same time as you!

OK. You guys have me hooked. Our trip isn't until March if it even happens, but I wanted to make the shirts anyway. They probably will be Christmas gifts.

I ordered fuschia, turquoise and lemon yellow from Dharma Trading, but I couldn't wait. I made one shirt using colors I already had. Here is my first ever Mickey shirt.
My new dyes came today, so I'll be making more in the next few days.

Three of five completed. I'm not sure what happened to the Mickey on the left, I guess he bent over and kissed the blue dye!

OK, I'm hooked on the iron shirts and now I saw this. So guess who will be doing these instead of wrapping Christmas presents.

OK I need help- I did a test run last night and here is what I got

What did I do wrong - I saw that when I did the ink it ran under the bands on the head how do I keep that from happening? HELP! PLEASE

*I have posted this in a few places so the ppl that have subbed will help me

I'm not sure about the Mickey Head but for the other, did you do the rubber bands really tight? The first ones we did I had them really tight and the color didn't get through to some layers. So the next ones I did, I didn't band them as tight....even though it looked the color bled all over....they turned out OK.
I used waxed dental floss for the heads and once I pulled the floss to get that pucker then I banded that part really tight.

What did you use to outline the mickey head? You need to use dental floss, the glide kind works well, its what I've used and I've had great success.

Then you need to draw it up really tightly and keep it tight and wrap 2-3 rubber bands tightly around that Mickey head part. then you need to dye it but not saturate that part.

The rest of the shirt needs more dye as you probably can see, you need to get in between the folds and make sure there is no white showing in any part of your spiraled tshirt pie. Use a chopstick to get inbetween the folds.

I use procion dyes from Dharma trading and use squeeze bottles from there when I dye and I've had wonderful results:

Just found this thread and love all your designs. I am planning our shirts for an upcoming cruise in March. Last time we had navy patriotic tees. This time the boys can make their own. pirate: pirate: pirate:
Thanks for the step by step instructions and pictures. I am a visual learner.

Ok I started over and here is what I got-

I was using thread not wax floss- must use wax floss.
Got the dye kit and not the dye spray.
Used the rubber bands that came with the kit- not the bankds from the rubber band ball.
OH YEA- important part- hubby wrapped the bands!

I like it! Are you happy with the results?

I am really happy how these turned out. Considering my other attempt! :scared: I have 4 boys that will be wearing them so the colors work well for them.

I got the ink from Micheals - Tulip Tie Dye Kit, Moody Blues. Blue, Turquoise, and green- the camera sort of washed the colors out. Very vibrant- oh and I did not use soda ash!

I am doing 4 more tonight with yellow, red and blue. I can't wait to see how they turn out. I will post pics!
