Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

The way i did mine with bleach is that i squeezed it out on a plate, and then used a fine paint brush around my mickey head.

Well I am making progress. I have allllllllll of the shirts with mickey head penciled on and sewn. tomorrow I will dye them. I am making my grand daughter 2 pairs of shorts. I hope they turn out cute.

cool shirt, irky416!

I just dyed my red/white/blue shirts. I have them sitting on old cookie racks right now, letting the excess dye drip off a bit before wrapping in plastic. Last time I got a bunch of brown spots on the shirts where all of the excess dye pooled and came in contact with the fabric.

It's always about experimenting, huh? ;)

Now for the wait ... :hourglass

I can't believe that I forgot about the shirts! :scared1: I just unwrapped them, and so far, so good. Except that I over did it a bit with the dye on DD's tank top. It contained the least amount of fabric, and was the smallest shirt, too, and it doesn't have much white on it.

But, the Mickey heads did stay relatively white. That was the exciting part! I decided to leave them white instead of a color, so after I banded the gathered head, I wrapped the head part in a bunch of that sticky Glad Press & Seal wrap, then banded it again at the bottom and then another around the wrapped part. It looked like a little top-know!

Hopefully I'll get photos of them posted tomorrow - we leave early Sunday morning!

Here's one I made. I made another, but had a little accident with the bleach pen. :scared1: May I suggest that if you haven't used the bleach pen, practice with it on a paper towel or something so you know how fast it comes out and how hard you need to squeeze!

mickeyfan1226, I think they look great! I haven't yet attempted to make mine, but your colors look great! I especially like the one with the maroon mickey head (the 3rd pic)!
What don't you like about them?

That one is my favorite and unfortunatly it goes to my sister. What I don't like it that the heads aren't more defined. I did not put the ones that I really don't like on here. I am trying to figure out some creative way of getting them so you can even see the mickey head. Oh well maybe next time that is if there is a next time for the tye dye. :)

I just love them! They are great! Tye Dye is not supposed to be perfect, lol. I think my fav is the little tiny one, then the tanks!

They will look GREAT in the park pics! Wait and see!

I know that is one thing I like about tye dye but I really wanted to be able to see the mickey head more defined.

I know some people use a bleach pen to make the Mickey head more defined. I didn 't use it on mine cause I've never used one before and I didn't want to mess up.

I agree, they look great! I think my favorite was the yellow, pink & blue one with the fuschia mickey head :thumbsup2 I haven't done mine either, hopefully soon. We're re-financing our house and trying to clean out the junk room, I mean, craft room :rotfl2: and I just haven't been able to work on much of anything!

thanks everyone. I used a bleach pen on this round of items, now on my granddaughter's items I used a paint and bleach. OOPS I put pictures of those items on the thread "visual learner... tye dye" I wont try to do the spiral thing on little items like hers. I now have requests for tye dye items from family and friends so I make get good at this stuff. :rotfl2:

:hyper: I ended up doing 3 tie dyed shirts, but I forgot to take a pic of the other two before I sent them to their owners! :goodvibes Here is mine. I love it! The colors stayed really vibrant. :hyper:

Dont know if this has been asked before (attempting to read every post but am going to AC Moore in 2 hours).....I bought Lime Green shirts to tie dye.....should I have gotten white? Wont the die not show up the colors I chose because the color of the shirt and the color of the die will combine to make another color? Or does the dye completely obliterate the color of the shirt. Hope this question makes sense. Thanks.
