And no, I didn't use any bleach, they just came out that way.:thumbsup2

Nice job Disbugs!

And yes, I was going to ask if you used bleach afterwards!

Wow - your shirts turned out fantastic! And I completely understand about the waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting to see if they turned out okay. Isn't it fun?

Thinking about doing this. Did you take the floss out when it was done? And how did you make it tight in the being with the floss? I guess I should of read the directions instead of just looking at the pictures.

AWESOME shirts!!! :) Thanks for sharing~

2boysandtink: When you stich the Mickey head, you use a basting stitch (just up & down & up & down) and when you make your full way around Mickey's head, where the two ends of the thread meet, you pull tight & it cinches it together. Sort of like a drawstring pouch. Then you tie it in a knot so it will stay.

You leave the floss in place through the dying process, soaking process, & I removed the floss when it was time to rinse the dye out.

Does that help?

Ah. Important detail I almost overlooked. Thanks Heather. ;)

Yes it does help. I it better to use floss or fishing string or wax thread? I'm getting all the stuff this weekend to do this for our upcoming trip to Disney.:woohoo:

Cool shirts! The sprials came out great! Mine not as well except on DH's XL....had more material to "spin" into the spiral. The kids want to do it again so we may just make some non-Mickey ones this summer. Just for fun!

I used plain (not flavored) waxed dental floss and I also stitched right on the line instead of outside of it. I think that really helped to get such definition.

My second set didn't come out looking like Mickey as much as I would have liked; I put bleach pen around the outline. Do I wash it now, or let the bleach pen set for a while? I haven't used one on clothes before so I'm not quite sure what to do next!

Just want to jump into this thread b/c I am so excited about trying these shirts!
Thanks to all the people that hae added great tips and ideas!

I made blue spiraled shirts that I planned on putting an iron-on onto. But, now I can't decide what I want on there. Any great ideas?

I so cant wait to get all the stuff needed to make these. I so am making these for our trip. I have a few questions though.
I have read that ppl mix in urea what is this?
Do you need to do anything special if you are using shirts with spandex in them? As I dont like shirts that dont have it in them.
Other than doing spiral way and the dry crystal is there any other method of tye dying? I have tried the spiral before and could never really get it right.
Does Dharma sell a lime green dye?
What colors work best if you want very bright and colorful tye dye? I want something more than the normal red, blue, yellow and green. I want really bright colors something like Hot colors or neon bright.

Thanks

ok I found some colors I like on Dharma now my question is I have 16 shirts to make 4 size 5T, 4 size 14-16 boys 4 size 3X tank tops and 4 3X t shirts. How much dye am I gonna need. I have found 8 colors I like since I want to mix up and do 4 different groups of 4 shirts.

Has anyone used these colors from there before? loved all of them and figured I could come up with some cool effects. Is there any other place like Dharma that has cool colors like these?
