Crossing my fingers !!!!

PS Tinker, you ROCK. I figured it out!
Goofy, tks for the responses. I'm thrilled for a first attempt. Already planning my next one !

Great job!!! Love your colors! What brand of dye did you end up using?? I love the spirals!

Thanks Tinker!
I used a Michael's kit. It may be tulip brand.
I got the shirts 2 for 7$ (Canada) at Michaels- they were advertised for tie dying etc, but when I looked at them they are only 50/50% cotton /poly.

So maybe that's why they didn't take up as much dye. I did soak in soda ash too.

I wish I could have preserved the colors when I first unbound them - vibrant and dark and perfect. Then I had to rinse !!

Great project tho:banana:

It was! It's so much fun to.. waiting is the hardest part! And you guys will have to take pics while you are in WDW so we can see you all wearing them!! It's almost trip time for you! I have to wait til September!

It does make a big difference in the vibrancy of the colors with the different amounts of cotton. Those white Old Navy tanks just do amazing with the color- they are 100% cotton and ribbed. I just wish I would have gone last week when they were on sale for $2! But, they are $5 this weekend, a pretty good deal still!

I found this thread yesterday afternoon and I can't believe I am finally to the end!!! I am amazed by all the awesome shirts! We are going in September so I went to Michael's yesterday and bought 1 ultimate kit and 2 regular kits with different colors and hope that is enough for 9 shirts! I am so nervous but I can't wait to try it this week! I didn't see Soda Ash at Michaels...does anyone else know where to get it?

Hey Alicia- my Michaels has Tulip Brand soda ash right by the dyes, but I know you can buy it at Hobby Lobby as well! You should have plenty of dye for 9 shirts! With the Tulip dye I would suggest only filling your bottles 3/4 full, so your colors are more vibrant! They will look a little dark going on, but trust me you will love the outcome, bc it seems like a lot of the color washes out. We want to see pics when you are done!!

I am working on about 9 shirts today- one of them is Halloween themed- so I am anxious to see how the black turns out- I'll have pics tomorrow afternoon!

I subbed to this thread about a month ago so I wouldn't lose it, and I finally peek in and see your shirts. We really are following each other around the DIS (p.s. I changed my username). I'm planning on making shirts for our September trip, too. Ts are half price at Hobby Lobby. I bought a bunch to make, but I completely forgot to get white ones to dye. Hopefully I can make it back over there before they close. :headache:

Hahaha, love ya girlie- we have to get together for a Disney chat lunch next time I am in town! Watch those shirts from Hobby Lobby, they aren't 100% cotton! Which, is ok, but your colors wont be as bright. Walmart of all places has some pretty nice Tanks on Rollback for the kiddos right now for around $3! Of course, you may want to try your East Side store since it prob has more sizes left!

PS- don't forget Hobby Lobby has a 40% off coupon for any item this week to if you want to buy your dye there!

I know, but I also know I'll mess up, so I'd rather mess up on a $1.50 shirt. :lmao: I was actually looking for tanks for my niece and little cousin (whose mom just confirmed they'd be able to go to Disney with us in September!!). I'll have to check Wal-Mart. I have to get some stuff for church there tonight, anyway.

We definitely have to get together!!! Let me know when you're hitting Nompton!

WOOHOO! I got the last 2 dye resist at the Michael's that I stopped at today! :woohoo: Now to get all my stuff together and see what I still need! LOL!! Just making some for fun so at least I don't have a deadline!

I'll be sure to do just that! SOON SOON SOON !:cheer2::cheer2:

PS NEXT time, I'm going to use the 100% shirts :laundy:

I should be in town at the end of July! LOL about the 1.50 shirts- good point, it took me a few tries before I felt like I had it down! They can be night shirts lol!

Yeah, it's hard to find them for a good price, but the colors look great on them! I am sooo ready to unwrap these in my kitchen.. they are just BEGGING me to unwrap them! haha! Gotta make myself wait it out!

OH littlezar potty training is NO FUN! I am there to!

Lisa Mae, once upon a time I started a thread on one of the creativity boards for people to post their Disney themed cakes, you should post some! I love the ones in your siggy, absolutely adorable!

Here are some of my latest shirts...

This one was done on an Old Navy Tank- love it!

Tinker,
These are great! Love the tank, love the pink, love the orange, LOVE the princess tank and tutu!!!

You got really vibrant colors!!

Is the tank really red, white and blue? In the picture the "red" looks a little orangish. A red/white/blue is high on my list. So many dye colors, so little time!!!! :rotfl2:
GoofyWalker

Oh, and if it is red, do you know which brand/color????

GoofyWalker

Thank you! It is really red :) Here is another one I did, and I have one processing now.

I personally am not a huge fan of the Tulip dyes, but in this case, it was the only red I could find (without ordering online), so I only filled the bottle halfway. In fact, I think that is the best tip I can give someone using Tulip dyes, don't fill the bottle to the top, and use Soda Ash! The other colors are all from Dharma trading company (Procion MX Dyes), or Jaquard (who has an AWESOME small kit at Michaels if you are just starting). The Dharma Dyes seem more expensive at first, but they come in a little cannister, and you can get about 7 bottles of dye per cannister. So, if you are doing a lot of shirts, it is worth placing an order!

PS- Sorry for the size of the pic of the back of the tank! I wanted you to be able to see thr red ;) Red does have a bit of an orange 'bleed' to it, so be sure to band really tight!

So, we'll both be dying to be in WDW by then (of course, you'll be a lot closer than I will be). Haha!!

OK, experts, Hobby Lobby has Duncan tie dye kits on sale this week. Are those any good?

Hahaha... "Dying" get it???? lol! lol!

Are Tulip and Duncan the same company... hmmm.. I think they are.... BUT I have seen a lot of people with gorgeous results on this thread from Tulip brand! I just can't get them to turn bright for me, lol!

I second the banding really tight! I did five shirts for my family & the first couple of shirts we did must not have been banded tight enough because the black mickey heads bled onto the white space around them for those shirts but the others turned out really great (except for DH's - he helped me sew around the heads & on his he followed the smaller line on one ear that he had originally stencilled & decided was too small. Now one ear is smaller than the other ear!!:rotfl:)
