Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

The tshirts I use are the multi pack Hanes or Fruit of the Loom. Make sure the shirt is 100% cotton. If needed, I use the bleach pen after I've rinsed, washed and dried the shirt. I use detergent when washing the shirt, after being rinsed thoroughly.

I went today to get some shirt...lets just say fall in Ohio...not much choice. All of Michaels were 50/50 blend. Not a thing in the kids section at Walmart and I found two white t-shirts in the ladies area. I bought a white hankerchif to do a trial run on. I also bought some clearance tie dye stuff by arts mind at Michaels. I figured I could play iwth a bit and get used to it and then order what I actually want. My DH may be wearing a lot of tie dye shirts out in the barn since I'm gonna practice on his crappy white shirts (well dingy white)

Ok, what did I do wrong.
I'll post a picture later. My hanky turned out fairly decent..with a lot of white, which I kind expected. The head looked decent too, but I wanted to give it more definition and outlines it with a bleach pen...it was NOT a gel one, just the regular clorax one. Well it bled into the ear a LOT and now I have kind of a deformed head. It would've been better if I left it alone. Why did it bleed so much.Do I need to be further away from the head to do the head when I outline? Could it be the thinner fabric? How do you get a nice line with no bleeding?

never mind...it WAS a stupid gel pen. I swear I looked it over to be sure it wasn't...but it is written differently than my other pen and I just found the gel part. I wonder if we have the option here to get something other than gel?

Pixie...one question. You said you leave a little space between colors, but so far my colors really bleed. I guess I need to practice more? I don't like them bleeding into each other.

Oh no :( sorry about that.

Probably practices makes a lot of difference. If you want to leave a space keep in mind that the dye will run, so make the space bigger so the dye don't run over the other colors, I only do that when the colors are not friendly, meaning they will make a muddy color when mixing, but with friendly colors its fun to mix them because you get some awesome shades.

Lets see if I did this right. This should be a pic of my family in our Tie Dye at 1900 Park Fare. The trip to the barber shop was a great accent. The shirts really made it easy for us to find each other when we were seperated.

Does anyone know where to buy inexpensive pillow cases and girls dresses for tie dying. I am having a heck of a time finding anything locally

Pixie-- :worship: I love all of the goodies you have posted on this thread. I think the Halloween and Christmas ones are my favorite. I like the polo. How hard was that one? Did you just twist it the same?

Thank you ♥

My DH found a very soft polo on sale in wal mart and he wanted me to use it instead of the the t shirt.
Its the same process but it gets tricky because of the collar, but just fold it along the way. I did the twist from the Mickey just like the t shirts.

Here are my latest. Have a lot of time before our next trip in 2013. I should have lots of shirts by then

Thank you. I am still trying to master that mickey head. Doesn't look bad in pictures but up close it needs some work.

Here are some of my very first. I am pretty proud for not having a clue.
I didn't get a picture of the back of the small tank, but it looks pretty cool and full of color. Also the hanky is the one I outlined in bleach pen then found out it was gel so it bled.
I made another tank that looked pretty cool and sent it to a client. I also just got down with a ribbed tank of mine that got some yellowing on it recently. it's in the dryer right now, but I think it's my best yet. I am debating on outlining the mickey head on that one (with a non gel pen)
One is bleached, as the shirt got some belachy marks...and I decided instead of wearing it for yard work, lets see if I can make it better
