Tide Pods for Laundry

I was going to buy a pack when I was at Sam's this weekend. However, I was worried that you are supposed to use the same pod for regular washer and HE washer. I know you use less in HE washers so I was worried the soap would be too much and damage the HE washer. I have been very careful to only use HE detergent since the repair man said the washer can be damaged if you don't.

yes, they've ruined me. i can't use regular detergent anymore. powder stuff always ends up in the creases of the clothes or i was always missing the caps for the liquids and dealing with leaky, drippy containers.

I never have problems with either of these but I used a pump for my liquid and I always put my detergent in before I put clothes in so the detergent has a chance to be in the water before the clothes. :)

We use ALL liquid (various types) and Woolite. Then we use Downy for the fabric softener. My wife and youngest daughter both have sensitive skins which is why we use those detergents specifically. We have not used powder in ages b\c it seemed to stain things and get stuck in the folds of the clothes. When we go to Disney, then we use the pods which seem to work well.

I have sensitive skin as well, for a long time I used only Tide, then I used a concentrated environmentally (read expensive) detergent, then I figured out making my own and I haven't had any problems with my skin at all. I love it!

U might want to do a search on these boards cuz I think there was a thread goin about these that ruined clothes with the blue dye-but it might be a different brand. I want to say the user also did a google search & found a lot of complaints about staining.

That was Purex brand sheets. :)

I am old school and like my Tide plus Bleach powder. I like being able to control the amount of powder based upon the size of the load. I don't like the liquid as I use too much. I don't wash clothes on vacation, it's vacation after all :thumbsup2, but if I did, I'd probably use the pods for convenience.

DD who is in college likes the Tide pods...easier for her to use - toss it in the washer, no measuring etc. Plus she can grab a few pods and not have to lug around a box/bottle of Tide.

I always thought I'd never do laundry on vacation either, until I spilled something on my shirt that I loved and decided maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to have laundry stuff just in case. LOL I don't plan to do laundry on vacation but sometimes it has to be done so I have Tide Pods on hand just in case. :)

I tried the pods from a free sample and didn't notice anything different. I have noticed the outrageous price on them at the store though! I have a front loading washing machine so it's better for me to use liquid detergent anyway - and just a tiny bit. In fact, I save a ton of money using just a little bit of liquid detergent than I would using the pre-measured pods. I don't ever use fabric softener anyway (never noticed any difference using it). I do use fabric sheets in the dryer though since at our high and dry altitude, everything would be static-y if I didn't.

For vacation and for the kids, I use Purex one sheets (detergent and fabric sheet for the dryer in one). That way, the kids can do their own laundry without measuring any detergent. And for vacation, I put a few in a plastic bag and put it in with my clothes. The clothes smell great when you get where you are going and since there is no liquid involved, nothing can spill or leak. I never found the Purex one sheets to dye my clothes though - not sure who said that!

We have friends the work the GE Appliances you don't need to use the recommended amount of Tide you only need about a 1/3-1/2 of what they recommend. I have done this for years and my clothes are just as clean.

Therefore I get a lot more loads out of my liquid which then makes the pods really expensive.

I can see the convenience for vacation I would use them then.

That was NOT Tide brand. It was All or Purex's pods. I have not had an issue with the Tide ones and we use them on vacation. At home I use Tide with Febreeze or Downy. I also use color catchers as you just never know when someone s going to throw something tht may run into the washer.

What are color catchers? I was going to buy the Tide Pods but then saw that post about the Purex ones....kind of worried me. The washers at Disney are small so I didn't know if the Pods would get wrapped up in our clothes or not.

Maybe I could add them in to the water first, before the clothes but again with Disney washers.....would they have enough time to dissolve?

I used them in the stackable washer/dryer at a DVC resort last summer and they worked great, absolutely no problem. Just throw it in when you turn the water on and load in the clothes on top. I've used them ever since with my front-loader at home.

I have used the Tide pods and at first I loved them, very convenient. But I started to notice blue stains on some clothes. At first I though maybe my daughter left a pen or something in her pockets. But a few weeks back I washed my daughter new white uniforms shirts and they came out stained. I tried to bleach them and use a spray on them...it would not come out and I had to buy new ones. So I went back to liquid tide. I did buy just today the All brand pods. The detergent is clear so it should not stain. I hope they work well because I do like just throwing in the little pod.

Color Catchers are made by Shout and help keep colors from bleeding onto other clothes. After having a few mishaps with kids helping with laundry I started using these and have not had issues since. http://www.shoutitout.com/en-US/Products/Pages/shout-color-catcher.aspx

As for the Disney washers, many of the hotels I have stayed at have the same size washers and I have not had a problem with the Tide Pods. My youngest and I were even playing with the pods at one hotel while doing laundry to see what happened when they melted/popped. I do always put the Pod in first and then load the clothes after some water is in the machine.

I bought these for my college student son. They work great, and he doesn't have to mess with lugging a big container of detergent to and from his laundry room.

This...DD loves these - for the exact same reason, less to lug. She does, however lug the fabric softener bottle. DD DID NOT want to switch to the fabric sheets.

Thanks :) I'll have to look for those color catchers.
