We found a tick on our cats neck, removed it very carefully by tweezers and flushed it down the loo. Looked up what it was on the internet and I am now worrying myself silly that the boys may have picked something up from it:confused3 Anybody any experience, its made me feel extremely unclean. Goodness knows where it came from.

Cats can easily get them foraging (sp?) around outside. One of ours had a tick once and was fine after it was gone. Just make sure the area the tick was doesn't get infected.

Claire ;)

i used to be a vet nurse.....ticks should be removed carefully so you don't leave the legs inside, just keep a close eye on where it was for any redness or swelling.

allthough they look awful ticks don't usually cause too much trouble:)

My cat got one from playing in a field - she was fine! As long as it's all removed there should be no problem.

You can always buy some Frontline for fleas and ticks we get ours from a local company it costs us about £15.50 for 6 months worth, no need to get it from the vets you no longer need a prescription to buy it.
We use http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk and they are very friendly efficient and fast.

Get some front line from the vets and you should'nt have any more problems.
The stuff that you can buy over the counter in shops is a waste of money really.
Your boys will be fine try not to worry as its all part of owning animals;)

Thanks for that, the cat is actually next door's but they stopped feeding her and we have adopted her. We have had cats in the past (one lived to 16 and the other 17 years old) and they have never picked up a tick (unless we didn't know about it!) I panicked over what I read on the internet with the ticks carrying diseases, you can know too much!!!!
