Tickets for a just 3 year old

Last time we went to WDW world we bought tickets for my 3 year old (he was just three) and because he was in a pushchair (stroller) they didn't check his ticket once.

We're going again soon and my second child will be just 3 and I'm wondering if I'm going to be wasting my money if I buy a ticket for him.

Has anyone had the same experience?:wave2:

This is a VERY hot topic here, I'm just warning you.

You should do what is right. You are supposed to have a ticket for a 3 year old period. That's Disney's policy. I'll leave it at that.

Many people chose to follow the rules. Some people chose to cheat. Really not up to a vote.

Cheat is such a strong word....We are a family of 6. The last time we went to Disney my youngest was just 3. After figuring out all the money we were spending staying on site...buying tickets...eating atleast one meal a day at the parks...buy souviners...etc....I don't think Disney missed out on my 3 year olds ticket. Not to mention she did not ride hardly anything and spent lots of time in her stroller. She was afraid of the Characters...and usually napped during some of the shows. I think you need to do what is right for you. I know that I definitly spent her tickets worth on other things and then some...so lets not judge others unless we've actually walked in their shoes....

oh here we go again with the excuses! Unbelievable are the excuses people come up with for cheating, stealing and lying about their child's age.

If you can't afford to buy your over 3 year old's tickets to Disney then don't go. Go when you can go without stealing.

"do what is right for you"? ok, so if someone's going to rob a bank or steal something at Walmart would you say that same thing? Cause they are all stealing.

I don't care how many kids you have, stealing and lying are still stealing and lying, and now you are teaching that same dishonesty to your kids. What about your older kids? What lesson are they learning?

If the truth hurts then don't post how you steal and cheat your way to Disney. It offends most here who pay for all their over 3 year old children to go to Disney and not just the ones that can pass for under 3!

This subject always makes me so angry. Why would you post on a public board how you cheat and steal from Disney? How can you be proud of that enough to share it here for everyone to see? I don't get it.

I'm sure you'll post how terrible I am for "judging" you. Well, we all judge each other everyday, especially when we're asked to in a post. That's the way it is. If you ask should I steal, we'll reply with our opinion like it or not.

I warned you it would get ugly and probably locked. These moral issue threads usually do.

Just went through thinking about this myself. My daughter will have just turned 3 when we go in May. And to go from free to $50+ per day hit hard. But started planning on buying a 7 day plus 4 for Disney($250 for a child) and a 5 consecutive day for Universal($90). We will go to Universal 3 or 4 days this year. My 11 year old can do rollercoasters while the toddler does Barney and Seuss. We will use 2 of the disney days this year and use two pluses at waterparks this year. Then next year we will have 3 remaining disney days and 2 waterpark days. ( I know we will visit because Grandma retired to Orlando) Anyway this gets the cost down to about $ 30 dollars a day- which is a bargain!

Totally agree with you. For some it's no biggy, just fudging the rules and for others it's stealing.

I'm not going to appologize for telling it like it is.

I've been there...my DD's both have gone a couple times under 2 for free cause we planned it that way and then we went when our youngest was 3 years and 2 weeks old to enjoy Halloween. I followed Disney's policy since I chose to go AFTER she turned 3.

I guess their policy is only for some, not others. I guess if you have lots of kids or your on a tight budget, you have a good excuse to cheat, lie and steal from Disney.

And don't give me that lame excuse that they can't ride or do much at 3 years old anyway. That's a bunch of BS. They can do almost all the rides at MK, the shows, the parades, the characters etc...

If someone has a birthday and turns three years old, are they still two years old or are they three? For those over three, Disney charges to enter a theme park. Is this correct?

This was said, "I don't think Disney missed out on my 3 year olds ticket. Not to mention she did not ride hardly anything and spent lots of time in her stroller."

Disney "missed out" on the difference between the price of a ticket, albeit a child's ticket and nothing. Many people come to the park and either don't want to or can't ride attractions, but they still have to pay to enter the park. The ticket gains entry to the park. What that person does once inside is up to that person.

As was said, everyone has their own concept of what the term "cheat" covers.

I feel that if you know before you plan that there is a ticket required for 3 and over then you should plan for that expense. It is always your choice to still go, knowing that the trip will cost more. The number of people in your family shouldn't even be an issue because you choose to have that size of a family. I agree that if you are not able to avoid to pay of all park tickets that are required for your family then maybe you should not go or at least postpone you trip until you can.

Hi, BouncyTigger, and welcome to the DISboards!

You really chose a very explosive subject for your first post! Believe me, we are a very nice group here. However, the "3YO with or without a ticket" question is a very sensitive one, to say the least.

Just an FYI....you will also want to avoid questions that deal with more than 5 people in a room, reusing refillable mugs on another trip, pool-hopping and parking in resort parking lots to avoid the parking fee at adjacent parks. Have I forgotten any?

I must admit, I wish I'd started with a less controversial topic like which Disney retaurants are the best for dinner or which are the quietest parks on a Saturday and Sunday (which I would be interested in hearing about)!

What's ironic is that my 3 year old is insisting he's not coming (scared of the characters I think), so I'll probably end up buying him a ticket and dragging him round the parks kicking and screaming each day!!

You took the words right out of my mouth. Well said!

Actually cheat is a mild word. Lie and steal would be more accurate and stronger.

The rest of the argument carries no weight with me. Many grandparents go on very few rides but they pay admission.

I go by my post, follow the rules or cheat BUT DON'T ACT like a "vote" by other cheaters will make it right.

Thank you Misty for saying so very eloquently exactly what I was thinking. ::yes:: The DIS is a friendly place 95% of the time, bouncytigger!
I hope that no one has frightened you off here.
And as a Moderator of this board, let me join Misty in welcoming you to the DIS. I hope that we see you around the boards and that we can help you plan a WONDERFUL WDW vacation! :)

How old are your other children? Young enough that you could wait another year? Under the best circumstances, Disney can be overwhelming for children. I wonder if it might be better if you either bring along a sitter, to stay at the motel with your child, go swimming, play in the playground, etc, while you guys are at the park. The price of the ticket you would save, may be enough to pay for the expenses of a sitter. I don't think I would either want to be the person dragging a kicking and screaming child, or the person listening to one on my vacation. If you are pretty sure that is how your child will react, it sounds like neither of you (or bystanders) will have a good time.

I think using the word steal is a bit harsh in this case, specially when ( and according to disney policies ) if a child turns 3 during the trip stay, they allow you to steal until the end of the trip when you are staying onsite. This is a hard policy to implement because not too many kids have ID's to verify age, I know the only ID's my kids have is their passports ane birth certificates , and unless we leave the country, those usually stay home.
I'm not saying that it's right or wrong to get or not get tickets , but I can tell you that I have never met anyone who hasn't cheated or lied at some point in their lives , so for those people to tell someone what kind of example are you giving to your children, I suggest they take a long look at themselves before they speak and judge others.

Thank-you..thank-you...thank-you...I feel honored to have received the clarity on my moral responsibility as defined by the disney boards. I don't know how I have lived with myself until now. All I know is that when it comes to how we live our lives and the choices we have to make I can truly say that I am not superior enough a being to judge others. But as I can see...the Disney board is different. As far as I stand...I am happy to have responded for all those other disgusting individuals like myself who would dare subject a child to the Disney experience without a ticket. This would not be such a hot topic if there were not lots of people who do it. While we are at it...lets make sure we do not use any discount codes that did not arrive in our mail boxes with our name on it...and make sure if you buy a refillable mug you are the only one to drink from it. Disney does not expect that you will be sharing a mug with another person and still get free refills. All in all life is too short to be so wrapped up in what everyone else is doing...get a grip!
