We bought a 10 day MYW package w/ hoppers for our upcoming August trip. We plan on upgrading our tix to APs and going again for a trip in early August next year.

My question: If we buy into DVC while at Disney, will we get the DVC price for our APs when we upgrade. If we finance, will the paperwork be completed before my 14 day upgrade window closes? Thanks!

Possibly. You need to ask the sales guide about the timing for financing approval.

You need a membership card to upgrade to a DVC discounted AP or PAP. Generally, as soon as your deposit is accepted, you become a member. The sales guide can arrange for you to get a temporary membership card. I do not know how financing factors into it, however.

Also...if you bought your MYW tickets before the price increase be sure and activate them before you do the upgrade, that way the value will be based on the new prices, not what you originally paid for them.

I have a few park hoppers, are you saying that I need to use a day in there before I can have the current hopper price as the basis for the upgrade? Thnaks

You don't HAVE to, but it will save you coin. When you use a ticket and then upgrade it, you get credit for the current value of the ticket, not the value it was purchased for. It's definitely worth your while to use one or more days before upgrading.

If you add the non-expiring option to the tickets you won't need to worry about the 14 day time frame to upgrade them by. I still have an old 4 day non-expiring ticket that I have not upgraded. I wouldn't rely on all the paperwork being done in time to get the upgrades on the tickets while you are there. Unless the DVC Sales Office gets involved in getting the changes to the tickets done for you it could be a few months before you get your membership card which is needed to prove you are a member in order to get the DVC prices on tickets. I do not believe that MS will get involved in upgrading old tickets for members to DVC AP's. I find it much easier to do it myself at Guest Relations at the park entrances. I think that is the only place you can upgrade tickets to DVC AP's but I could be wrong. Any time I have tried to do an upgrade at a regular ticket window they have sent me to the Guest Relations windows. And I have never been able to purchase or upgrade any type of ticket to any type AP at any resort.

OK need a little clarity.

I have a 10 day park hopper no expiration that is about 3 yrs old.

I now have a DVC membership.

I can upgrade my existing ticket to an AP or use some of the days and then upgrade it to an AP?

Curiouse to what my options are.

Thanks

Is it a MYW ticket, or one your purchased before they switched to that ticket media?

If it's a MYW ticket that is 3 yrs old your best bet would be to go thru the turnstiles to activate it before the upgrade so the value would be based on current prices vs. what you paid 3 yrs ago. You could then go to guest services and upgrade it to an AP w/$100 DVC discount. You could do this at any point...so if you want to wait until the last day of your visit to decide if you want APs instead, that's okay.

It is a Magic your Way ticket.

Hmmm. If that is the case I am sure there is an optimal # of visits to use before changing it over.

Or do you have to do an upgrade the same day as a use?
If that is the case it changes things.

Or could I do a trip and use it for 3 days. Let 4 months pass.
Then go back an upgrade it to an AP. Or do I have to use it on my return trip once.

This may actually end up being a deal in favor of me.

I also have passes with Plus credits on them. (Waterpark, PI etc.)
I assume they will not work in this scenario?

Actually I doubt you would benefit in this scenario.

If you have already used some of the days on that non-expiring MYW ticket during another trip they do not give you the full purchase price of that ticket toward an AP. They will only give you the value of the remaining days. Since the MYW tickets are structured to cost less per day the more days that are added, the value of the last few days (say from 6-10) is minimal.

If you have used some of the days on this ticket on a visit more than 14 days ago you are likely better off just using the ticket remaining days separately. But you can always check with guest relations to check the value they would put toward a DVC AP.

For the passes that still have plus options left on them these remain valid until used. I would not advise transferring the remaining value to any AP until the Plus options have all been used up. I consider these "free" admissions to TL, BB or DQ.

If you use even one of the "pluses" the only thing you can upgrade to is a Premium AP.

Once a ticket has been used for the first time, you only have 14 days to do any upgrades. Purchasing the no expiration option on the ticket does not change this. This is the same for DVC and non-DVC members. The only thing that adding the no expiration option to a ticket does is makes those admissions valid until used up.

Ticket upgrades are no longer prorated. Depending on your circumstances, you will either get the current gate price of the entire ticket if used at least one time, the price you (or your ticket wholesaler) paid for the ticket if not yet used, or no credit at all if it is past the 14 day mark.
