Ticket upgrade to annual pass

and here we come full circle.. I spent an hour on the phone today with disney and ticketing, finally speaking with a ticketing coordinator. again, I have 2 day hoppers from this last fall
s free dining promotion.. unused, untouched. yes, they are package tickets. the supervisor/coordinator of tickets told me that since the wdw travel co. and disney ticketing were 2 dif. entities, there is NO way I can upgrade them over the phone. I can only make FP for 2 days. (she said it would be like purchasing a product at walmart and trying to return it for credit at target.)

she did help me out and spent a lot of time with me.

all I want to do is use my unused 2 day hoppers I was required to purchase and put it towards my next years ANnual Pass. we did this for years and it was NO PROBLEM. we just bridged the tickets upon arrival.

it didn't become a problem until fasts pass plus. I asked about the "voucher" , "certificate" whatever, and she said she couldn't upgrade those to an AP and issue a voucher over the phone..

actually, now that I think of it, it would probaly behoove us to purchase an AP voucher (certificate) before prices go up.. but OMG!!!!! these waters are already muddy! lol!

parenthetical aside.... when I mentionedto the ticket coordinator that last year we were able to upgrade /bridge (now Im not sure which was done) on the phone from the 2 day free dining tickets to a 10 day (just so I could make fast passes) she said I shouldn't have been ableto do that, as wdw travel co. is dif. from disneyticketing and they cannot at all upgrade ANY package tickets over the phone. it must be done in person.

I want to mention that this was a very nice lady, and very patient, and spent a lot of time with me.. even though I am unhappy with the results and more confused thatn ever, she was a great CM. I'm just wondering.. is there some kind of competition between disney and the WDW travel co.. ? is there things they are ordered not to tell us? and you can't blame the CMs, they do what they are told.

as mentioned earlier upthread, the "package" and other discounted tickets are sold to "resellers" and disney has already lost that money. so tyhere is no "loophole we aren't looking to "cheat" disney

so.. it shouldn't be this difficult.. hubby and I each have a 2 day hopper package ticket (from the free dining promotion. we do not currently have AP. (thy expired this last fall) we plan on using these tickets (which show up on our MDE) to upgrade to next years AP.. but I don't want the AP to start unitl april 30, 2016. our MDe account shows our current resort reservations on WDW property.. I want to be able to book fast passes at 60 days out.

I mentioned to her that last year I was able to upgrade the 2 day hopper free dining tickets from that previous year to 10 day tickets so I could book fast passes (the ONLY reason I did such a ridiculous thing) and she told me I shouldn't have been able to do that on the phone and I was granted an exemption.

1. But, it IS correct. The CM is correct.
2. An AP can't be activated (start "counting down") by remote phone call.
3. That just requires having valid tickets or AP or AP certificate and you can only book the number of "FP days" for the number of days for which you have tickets.
Have a great trip!

I'm glad I stumbled on to this thread today, because it sounds like I actually might be able to eliminate some AP upgrading hoops if I'm reading some of this info correctly.

Here is our situation:

My DS9 has an unused 6-day park hopper bought separately through the WDW website (not a package ticket) in my MDE account. I was planning on upgrading that when we got there, but it sounds like I could call ticketing and upgrade it to an AP voucher now. Is that correct?

I have a discount ticket that I was planning on using first and then upgrading to attempt "the bridge", but it sounds like I don't have to use it once anymore? I can go to guest services before we enter our first park?

1. If you ARE able to do so, it will be very unusual.
That kind of upgrade is not commonly done.

2. You do not have to (but you CAN) use a ticket before upgrading it. It will still be "price-bridged" if eligible.
3. Yup.

No, you can't upgrade it over the phone now to an AP voucher. Smidgy was offered to return the tickets he/she has (unusual refund as mentioned above) and then would just purchase an AP voucher by phone 60 days out to make FPs. Upon arriving, they would exchange their voucher for the AP, and also receive the refund for their tickets

But yes, you no longer need to enter a park before upgrading any tickets to obtain the current gate price for your tickets in the upgrade transaction.

many of us annual pass holders take advantage of the free dining offer, and let he required ticket purchase go unused until the next time we need to purchase AP... I guess the question is about bridging tickets.

Hi smidgy,

Just a note, now that you brought this old thread back up again...
Since the TITLE is fully incorrect,
can I ask that you go back to your first post, open it,
and pull down "Thread Tools" and EDIT the TiTLE
to something less misleading? (Maybe, "Ticket upgrade to AP," or something like that.)
It will be less confusing and "scary" for other posters.
Thanks!

Seems that smudgy is being given a special "pixie dust" exception.

Ok, awesome. Thank you and thank you, vicki_c for responding! It still saves me one visit to guest services if I can bridge that discount ticket before entering the park! Thanks!

On mde the two day tickets we had to buy for free dining this August are assigned to each memeber and says non-transpherable. Once we check in we want them to remove the tickets from our account so we can save for later use and my question is will they stay as non-transferable even though they where never activated ??
Thanks

No, but maybe.

Since you purchased the ticket directly from Disney, they might be able to refund that purchase and sell you a new AP voucher.

Smidgy, last year you had the free dining package. The tickets you upgraded by phone; were they that package's tickets? If so that makes perfect sense. You simply changed your package tickets from 2 to 10 days. Normal transaction.

But this time you're using leftover tickets it seems. Not from the package you're currently using. And you want to go to an ap. Not a normal transaction. I don't remember anyone, even with non-leftover tickets, being able to upgrade by phone to an ap or voucher.

all I want to do is use my unused 2 day hoppers I was required to purchase and put it towards my next years ANnual Pass. we did this for years and it was NO PROBLEM. we just bridged the tickets upon arrival.

And there is still no problem in doing that. The problem arises because of FP+. But that's not a problem upgrading or bridging. It's just a problem with FP+.

You don't NEED to remove those tickets.
You can simply create "fake guest names" in your MDX accounnt and transfer the tickets to those fake names.
When you want to use them, transfer them back to your real selves.
Yes, you CAN transfer unused tickets.

done! and thanks for your patient help signed, "smudgy" lol

bumber, the tickets I upgraded by phone last year were leftover tickets from a free dining package also. I guess I just added ticket days to it, which I guess is dif. than "upgrading". what WAS 2 day tickets were now 10 day tickets, but they were still "resort package tickets"

then when I went to GR at disney I upgraded those pkg tickets to an AP. and I guess the CM didn't bridge them correctly. I should have done what another poster said and just gone to a dif. GR; get a dif. CM.

and yeah, I get what you mean. the problem was never in upgrading on arrival.. it only became a problem with the arrival of FP plus. sigh I think I have finally wrapped my head around this.

I'm a nervous nelly, but will my situation work?

My gf and myself have a Disney trip next monday for 7 days utilizing free dining and a resort stay. We bought 10 day park hoppers because we want to switch over to AP tickets (I'm a florida resident she isnt). I've read this is possible, my question though is if we do that will we lose our free dining? At that point it would be a gamble to me if it's worth actually upgrading to the AP if we don't keep the free dining.\

That said, to get a Florida discount, I don't have a florida liscence but I have information from my financial provider showing my florida address AND a out of state liscence, will those work?

Thanks for all the help guys.

Thanks Robo ...
It scared me when I saw "non-transpherable" online but that makes sense that it would say that until we officially check in

Isn't that odd that they let you upgrade those tickets, then? That's not the norm at all. But it's possible that because that was done, that is exactly the reason they didn't bridge (or didn't do it correctly) when moving to the ap, because those package tickets were turned in to non package tickets in the phone upgrade.

You will not lose your dining.

I hope the FL ap isn't less than the cost of those ten day tickets though.
