Ticket upgrade question...

We recently decided to add an extra night onto our last-minute trip. I'd like to upgrade our PH tickets to include the extra day, but from what I'm reading on the Disney site, it seems like I can only upgrade when I arrive in Disney World. That will be easy enough, but does this exempt me from making FPs for the extra day beforehand?

1. In most cases, yes.
2. Yes. One of THE most-dissapointing aspects of FP+.

You CAN upgrade as soon as you arrive, and AT THAT MOMENT, you can then
make your FP choices for your final day... still a few days in advance.

*Sigh*

TOTAL and complete bummer, but thanks for the quick reply. :)

I'll add this to my ever-growing list of lamentations about FP+. ;)

We added a day to our last trip. I called Disney and they did it over the phone. You have to talk to someone in ticketing. If you call the regular reservation number, ask to be transferred to ticketing. They cancelled our old tickets and reissued new ones with the additional day. I was worried that we would lose our FPs that were already booked but he said that as long as we linked the tickets to MDE by midnight, our FPs would still be there. He was right. Of course I linked it right away! Then I was able to go ahead and schedule the FPs for the additional day.

I was also told on this board that Disney would not do this. It certainly doesn't hurt to try!

I'm in the same boat. And, I have so little faith in WDW CM's getting it right (after many, many trips where I spent many, many hours on the phone/in line to get THEIR errors corrected), that I am pretty sure I am not going to upgrade after all. We'll see how much pixie dust I am spewing when I get there, though. That plan might go right out the window once my feet are on property :)

:crazy2:

That makes me verrrrrry nervous...I just assumed (I know, I know...) that it would be a relatively simple process.

If you purchased the tickets from Disney, you should be able to upgrade them over the phone. Call them at:

Existing Tickets
(407) 939-7523
0800 16 90 730 (UK)
1800 812 676 (IE)

If you purchased them through a discount site, then Disney can't do anything until you're at the park. The discount ticket company might, but generally, they say "no refunds."

THANK YOU for this!!! I'm on hold now (apparently my call "will be answered in the next thirteen minutes") and I'll let you know if I was successful!

Ok, I know I'm being ridiculous, but I *just* saw this reply - thank you for offering this advice! I didn't mean to leave you out of the kudos! :goodvibes

There have seen enough recent posts about this that I've added the info to the ticket sticky.

However, I've been answering these kind of questions for years, and have learned that
some procedures come and go (likely with personnel changes at WDW.)

I'll keep monitoring to see if this stays viable.

If anyone has additional dealings with advance ticket upgrades, one way or the other,
please keep us posted.

Thanks @Robo !

The only reason I know this is because I called a few weeks ago. I wanted to upgrade my tickets from 5-day base to 6-day hopper. The CM I called at the number I gave above did ask for a ticket number, so there's at least some ability to do it there. If the CM couldn't, she (I think it was a she?) would just say she couldn't, and that would've been the end of that call. When I gave my confirmation number, she noticed it was bought from a discount site, they said she couldn't upgrade them. She said if it were tickets bought from Disney's own website, then she could. @Ariel Wanna-be confirmed it is possible, since she bought tickets through the official channel.

*Two weeks later...

Just wanted to give an update to this.

We decided to add yet another day to our last-minute "short" trip. (Don't ask.) So I called the same number as before to upgrade my PH tickets. The very sweet, very polite, very uninformed CM on the line told me that I absolutely, positively had to upgrade at the park...I could not do this over the phone. I (sweetly and politely) informed her that I had done this exact same thing a couple of weeks ago, and she went on a chiding spiel about how the previous CM should not have done that. I (sweetly and politely) asked her to *please* check with her supervisor to make sure she had the most up-to-date info. She checked, and eventually upgraded my tickets.

So if you call and they tell you to wait until you get to the parks, either hang up and call back, or ask them to double-check with someone.
