Ticket Upgrade Question

Headed to WDW in a couple weeks. I’ve read a lot on upgrading tickets but want to make sure I don’t mess up :confused3 if we decide to upgrade to DVC AP while there. Currently we have 5-Day Park Hopper and More purchased through Official Ticket Center.

Pretty sure rule Number 1 is -use the tickets to enter the park at least once. But I think we need to upgrade before all 5 park days are done? If we aren’t upgrading to the Premium AP are there any options so we don’t loose “the more”? The plan was to use “more” at the end of the trip after all 5 park days were done.

Thanks!

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. No. You'll have to buy those admissions separately or upgrade to a PAP.

Thanks I was afraid of that. The kids really want to do Quest (yeah I know). I don't want to pay out of pocket for that. Do you know if I can double upgrade? Add a park day before using the last of the 5 and then upgrade to AP?

Yes.
You can upgrade as many times as you like (up to the maximum number of "days" and/or to AP.

But, there is little to gain by doing the interim upgrades, except maybe to see how you feel about extending your trip a day at a time.

BTW, you CAN upgrade a ticket after you have used the last "day," as long as you do the upgrade no later than close-of-business on the SAME DAY that you use that ticket's last asset.

So Robo: My last day I am going to MK and will use my last day of tickets. I can upgrade to an AP on that same day but make sure it is before the closing of the business day.
I have 4 days worth of tickets. Will they count all 4 days towards my upgrade?

Thanks Robo and for the clarification lustergirl.

We will be there for 8 Days so using an additional day is possible - I guess it's just which is less. Upgrading to a six day then AP or upgrade to AP and pay for other admissions.

Yes.

But I'm curious as to why you would want to wait. If I were you, I would upgrade on the first day so that I could start taking advantage of AP discounts.

Why not just upgrade on the first day? There is no reason that I can see for upgrading twice.

Thanks for helping me though this! We are actually going to use the "more" part on the tickets. Water Park, Mini-Golf and Quest but not until after we would use the last (5th) park day. So my thinking was to upgrade to a six day so we could use the "more" and still upgrade to AP before the last (now 6th) park day was used. My original thought was not to upgrade to a PAP because I'm not sure we would be doing the "more" part on our second trip.

I guess I need to compare the numbers to see what makes the most sense.

In that case, you'll need to upgrade to a premium AP. You're still better off just upgrading at the beginning of your trip.

There's no way to use the "more" options and then upgrade to a regular (or DVC) annual pass. When upgrading a ticket with "more" options, if you have used a "more" option, you must upgrade to the Premium Annual Pass.

Also, some people think that upgrading later in your trip will give you a later expiration date on the Annual Pass, but that is not true. The Annual Pass will be dated as of the first day you used your original ticket.

Sorry I wasnt thinking straight before.

All of this is true, and was why I stated that there was no real reason for any interim upgrades.

Plus, if you wait until the end of your vacation, you'll miss out on AP merchandise (and food, though that's limited) discounts. We also bought the TIW card, which we found to be a much better value than the DDP, so if you're thinking of going in that direction, you'll want to do that before your first TS meal so you get the discount.

Thanks! This is exactly the detail I felt like I was missing. Guess I better get ready to upgrade to PAP after we use the first day then.
