Ticket Upgrade Question

My DW, DD, and myself are booked on the 4/3 package at POFQ from 2/28-3/07. I want to upgrade to 10 day non expiring tickets so we have a head start on our next trip. We are only planning on using 6 days of tickets on this trip, and we generally take at least 2-3 trips per year, so it seems like it would make sense to upgrade. My question is, when should I upgrade? Before I get there, or after I have already used some days off the tickets. Just looking for the most affordable way to do it. Thanks in advance.

You should upgrade AFTER you have used the tickets at least ONCE.

That being said, you need to sit down and do the MATH of how much it will cost you
to actually buy tickets over multiple trips.

If you will only have 4 days left (of the ten you plan to by this trip) how many days
of tickets will you need for your NEXT trip?

If it is OVER 4 days, you might NOT want to pay for non-expiring now, but simply buy
expiring tickets for both this trip and the next.

Again, do the math.
Many times non-expiring is a very poor choice for the money.

Also, if you will be making multiple trips WITHIN a year,
AP's can usually be the better choice.

HERE is the current WDW ticket price list.

If you do two or three trips a year, and the total numbere of days is more than 12, you are definitely better off buying APs.

You might want to look at the Everything About WDW Tickets locked sticky in this Forum. Especially the items bolded in the list below.

Thanks for the info. In all honesty, AP's never even crossed my mind. This does seem to be the better option if we plan on returning this calendar year. Would I be able to upgrade my 7day MYW tickets to AP's, or would it be a totally separate purchase?

Yes, the price to upgrade any ticket to any other ticket is simply the difference between the cost of the ticket that you HAVE and the cost of the ticket that you WANT (APs included.)

BUT...
Make sure that you USE your current ticket at least ONCE to enter a theme park, BEFORE to do the upgrade.

That way you will get the full gate value of (in your case) a 7-day MYW ticket in the upgrade to an AP.

You CAN upgrade MYW tickets to APs (one ticket can upgrade to one AP ... you can't combine the value of a few tickets into one AP), as long as those tickets were not first USED more than 14 days ago.

One thing about the wording of your last post made me think ... APs don't run by calendar year. Day One of your AP is the day your first use your AP. In other words, if you first use it on Feb. 12, 2009, it will expire after Feb. 11, 2010.

if you first use it on Feb. 12, 2009, it will expire after Feb. 11, 2010.

Actually, if you first use it on Feb. 12, 2009, it will still be usable on Feb. 12, 2010 (that would be its last "good" day.)

Just the unique way WDW AP's work.

Thanks again. I was just reading the ticket thread that the PP gave me a link to, and I saw that the passes were actually good for 365 days rather than a calendar year. The passes definitely seem to make more sense now. Plus, it'll give us an excuse to make sure we return a couple more times!:thumbsup2
