ticket question

We are only going to the parks for 4 days and don't want to add on hopper because we are not planning to do more than one park a day for most of the days. However, there is one day when we may want to do two parks. Can we get a 5 day ticket and use two days worth of tickets in one day? If i'm doing the math correctly, this is cheaper than paying for a hopper. Just not sure if this is allowed. thanks!

No, you won't be able to do that. You'll need to add hopping if you do visit a second park in one day.

Disney already has that angle figured out. You will need to purchase Park Hopper to visit more than one park in one day. Sorry. Personally, I wish Disney would offer PH for one or two days of a multi-day ticket.
