Ticket purchase options

Forgive me if this has been discussed at length but if tickets at Disney's site are $1540.00 before tax and they are $1453.00 after tax at undercover tourist, why would I buy tickets directly from Disney? This may sound insane but I have never bought tickets anywhere other than directly from Disney. It just dawned on me to look around a little. Any drawbacks? Any things I should consider that I'm not thinking about?

The only difference is the price.

The reason that people buy non-package tickets directly from Disney is that they just don't know any better.

i have used UCT tickets before without any problem. They may be selling the last of the tickets they have at the old price. but they should work fine!

UCT is very reputable. There is no difference in the tickets and you can save a good bit of money. I only buy direct if I get a package form Disney, but I'm just as happy doing a room-only (especially now without DQ vouchers). I just bought some for an October trip because of the price hike.

There is one benefit to getting tickets in a package in that they're refundable if you follow the cancellation policy for the package. UCT will refund tickets for a year if you haven't linked them. Other 3rd parties may or may not allow refunds. Not a huge benefit but it might be worth it in some circumstances.

AND...
If you want to buy APs, you can order multi-day tickets from one the the WDW authorized ticket resellers (there are many others in addition to UT) and then upgrade those discounted tickets to APs and KEEP the discounted savings.

A legal and proper way to buy (and even renew) "discounted APs."

And, you get to pre-book FP+ using your multi-day tickets, then upgrade to AP at WDW and keep your FP+ reservations.

One (potential) drawback is some resort discounts require a ticket purchase from Disney, e.g. "free" dining. But I've always come out ahead by booking a "room only" discount and purchasing tickets from UCT.

Our rooms are typically DVC so I always just have to get tickets. I'm sitting here wondering why I've never given this a second thought before...oh well...live and learn.

I will admit total ignorance to UT prior to joining this message board. We always bought from WDW directly, because we didn't know any different, and I'd guess most others who don't read this board probably do the same. We plan to get APs again this July. Now that I know about UT, I'm going to follow this exact plan Robo laid out, especially because we stay off site. Buy multi day from UT, the largest savings we can find. Then convert it to AP when we arrive.

Has anything changed in the number of days of FP+ we can book?? We bought a 10 day ticket with park hopper and water park options in June 2015. We had a 15 day trip planned...we planned to do 10 park days and 5 water park days. We scheduled all 10 park days FP+ at the 30 day mark. Halfway through that trip, we upgraded to AP and got to keep all our FP+ reservations. Once we had AP, we found out the hard way that off site AP holders can only book 7 days worth of FP+ in a 30 day period...that caught us off guard for our summer 2016 trip, but we worked around it. Does that still apply? Our upcoming trip is going to be 17 days long, and we plan to purchase APs while we're there. So let's say I buy a 10 day ticket from UT now and link it to my account. 30 days out from our first park day, I start booking FP+. Can I still book 10 days (or more) of FP+ since I'm a ticket holder and not an AP holder at that point?

The Undercover Tourist price will likely go up soon, they are selling the remaining of their tickets they obtained before the price increase. If you want them, don't wait too long.

We reserved three resort only rooms at the Poly for 2018. The only reason I'm not buying from UT yet is that if a package with room+tickets come out next year from WDW for my dates and resort, I'll have the flexibility to switch from resort only. Even though UT has a 365 day return policy, I don't want to jump on the current tickets and return if needed as I believe there is a 5% penalty for returns. That adds up on 9 tickets.

You're probably right, and as much as I don't like it, I at least can understand the rationale. But what about non-AP off site? If I just buy a 10 day ticket, is there any limit on how many FP+ I can make? That would be my plan...buy the 10 day ticket, book all my FP+, then convert to AP while we are there.

No, if you have a ticket you can book for the entire length of the ticket, just like it always has worked. It's only AP that have that limit

I just bought four 9 day MYW (no park hopping this trip) tickets at UT last night. Since Disney prices have gone up, but I was able to get the UT tickets that they still have in stock at the former price, I saved about $250. For our last trip we also used UT and booked the resort through Orbitz, receiving the Disney discount offer at the time and an Orbitz offer, we saved quite a bit. That was the first year I booked this way and everything worked out fine. I was able to book fP+, link everything to my MDE and even got our room request. I was also wondering how I had not figured all this out in the past! Better late than never!!

Also check Park Savers, they were cheaper than UT when I recently bought park hoppers!
