I'm planning a trip October 2019. I'm confused what ticket to get as I feel there's a chance I'll need to cancel? ( with the health of a member of the party and one looking for a job)
If I buy tickets for a specific date what happens if I can't make those dates?

If I buy a flexible date ticket? It expires at the end of 2019. Correct?

I heard you can no longer get no expiration tickets. I'm trying to find the best option before I drop a couple thousand dollars. Yikes! TY.

If you go to the WDW ticketing website and begin a purchase, you will see all of the ticket purchase terms and conditions there. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/admission/tickets/theme-parks/

Generally speaking, if you purchase specific date tickets and you know prior to the ticket date that you won't use them, you can call and switch the dates (and possibly pay an additional charge if the new dates have higher prices). If you purchase the flexible option, tickets purchased now expire on Dec. 31, 2020.

Are you staying onsite or offsite? If staying offsite, why not just wait until just prior to your FP+ window opening and decide then which tickets you will need? If onsite, I would consider including tickets with a room package as you will be able to make changes to that package with no penalty up to 30 days prior to check-in and can make changes with a $50 change fee within 30 days. That's much cheaper than paying full price for tickets you may not use.

Tickets can not be canceled or refunded. I believe flexible tickets expire at the end of 2019.
BUT If a hurricane happens to show up during your planned vacation time, they will either refund you or change your dates.
I suggest you call them at 1-407-W-DISNEY (14079347639) to get exact info.

You never lose the value of the tickets, so even if they expire (and are unused) you can apply that value to new tickets, at least that's what my interpretation of the ticket sticky on the TPAS board is.

This. If you cannot attend your trip and the tickets expire, you can use the value of those tickets (what they were worth at the time the tickets were "minted" - which if you buy them direct from disney is the price you paid before tax) towards the purchase of new tickets - you would just pay the difference in price between the two based on whatever the current ticket price was.
