Ticket discounts with conventions?

My husband will be attending a convention in Orlando in April, and I'm looking to come down with him. I would be working from the hotel room during the day, but am hoping to do some park nights with him.

Do conventions in Orlando typically have partial day tickets for sale at a discount?

I'm actually hoping to get really lucky and find that MK gets an after hours event on Monday April 17!

Your husband will need to contact the convention planner to know what is offered. I would not expect an “after 4pm” type ticket to allow access to an After Hours event.

I went to a convention at the Swan a number of years ago, and the convention web site offered discounted tickets. I bought park hoppers, but I’m sort of thinking there was a ticket offering entry after 4:00ish. However, I agree that if there’s a separately ticket after hours event open to the public, those convention tickets would not cover it.

I didn't get the impression the OP was asking for a convention ticket to be used for an AH party but rather they were hoping for an AH party to be offered which they would purchase an AH party ticket for.

But that's just my interpretation of what was said.

That’s what I thought too.

Sure would be great if there was an option for an AH party for them!

Oh, most definitely looking to buy separate AH tix! But also happy for an after 4 ticket at a discounted price. I hate to pay full price for 4 hours. I will have the hubby check with organizers once he has his convention ressies.

I ran a convention in 2017 in Orlando and we were able to offer an afternoon ticket, I think it was an "After 2 pm" ticket. They were Disney tickets but sold through the Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau. You would need to check with the convention planners about availability. But unless we're talking about thousands of attendees I doubt the convention would be buying direct from Disney. You did have to purchase them online. The CVB gave us a link for our attendees to use. Also, they were date restricted to I think a week after our convention ended.

I know a lot of people ordered their tickets this way for our attendees and they offered some pricing discounts and a more in fewer perks thing, like park hopping, Photo Pass, etc.

This is exactly the ticket type I am hoping will be available.

Someone else is doing all the convention signups (to get the discounted fees). I'm just waiting to hear that he is signed up and we can start to plan.

Thanks!

I was pricing tickets that we could get as part of a convention elsewhere in Orlando (tickets for July 2023). They had an after 1PM ticket that was about $129/day, and an after 5 that was $79/day. Not sure if the ticket types and prices vary by convention, but I thought this might be helpful for planning purposes!

I would imagine each convention negotiates with Disney about what type of tickets and at what price will be made available. What they did for one event may not be the same for other events. Probably depends on the size of the convention, if it is an annual event, etc. and what else they will be spending on while at Disney. Typically, conventions take place during the day so those who attend would only be free later in the day. If spouse/children also come with them, they would probably want to visit a park while the other person is busy with the covention activities.

Typically the convention will have a "mydisneygroup" website that allows tickets to be purchased online. I have a yearly convention that I typically attend and its hit or miss whether they offer the after 1PM or after 4PM partial day tickets. Really depends on the conference host and what type of deal Disney offered them.
