Just wondering what the new cost will be for tickets that are going up soon. :confused3 Anyone know what the increase has been the last couple of years? We are going in August 2013 for a 7-day park visit and I gotta believe that with the new Fantasy Land opening, Disney World will raise the tickets quite a bit to help pay for it, especially before the summer visitors arrive.
Is anyone else going next year sometime that purchasing them now will save an estimated $50-$100 total. I realize that the amount now will be a hit for some, but if you are going for sure, it would be a savings in the end.
I am seriously considering getting (4) 7-days now to use in Aug. '13 because I would hate to see a big hike this year and next and regret it.

The finance side of me says that buying tickets in advance is basically making a no-interest loan to Disney, instead of having the money work for you.

Then again, at today’s interest rates, how much work is your money really doing?

Now, the practical side of me has in years past has gone and bought tickets at the Disney store, one ticket a month until I had all the tickets we needed. A couple of hundred a month seems easier to stomach than over a thousand for the five of us.

Personally, if you have the money now (i.e. not paying 12% interest on a credit card), I say buy them now and put them away. If you can, I say apply for the Chase premium Disney card, which will give you 5% Disney rewards for the first 90 days. Once in hand, buy your tickets. Depending on your situation, now you will get 5% (read $50 on $1,000 worth of tickets) to spend in the parks.

Not only have you “saved” any potential ticket increase, but you have also just paid for lunch (or maybe dinner).

Here is a link to a page that shows historical ticket prices. You can go back a few years to look at your type of ticket you're considering and see what the percentage increases have been.

I am never sure whether I will be booking a package or not. I believe that I have to buy my tickets as part of the package. So I would have two sets of tickets.

If you know you'll be going and you know you won't lose the tickets in the next 15 months, go ahead and buy them. There's no harm in doing so. The ticket prices WILL go up at some point in the next three months, but no one (outside of Disney executives) have any clue how much the increase will be.

The above link will tell you what you need to know, but this chart makes it easier: http://allears.net/tix/tixincrease.htm Edited to add you can get to this chart from the above link if you click "historical prices increases."

OP if you look at the chart you will see the increases have been pretty steady through the years even as parks and major rides have opened so I wouldn't expect FLE costs to effect the increase. Then again Disney could surprise us.

Also I don't know the exact numbers but ticket prices are a much smaller revenue source than you think. So they are not going to raise prices to try to pay for FLE.

I did this last year right before the price increase in June for our June trip this year. I saved about $125 (I think) by doing so. At the time, the big cash outlay kind of sucked, but I'm glad that I did it. That $125 will pay for 2 of our TS meals. :thumbsup2

I don't know how much they will go up, but we all know they will go up.

We actually purchased our APs already that we are not activating until July. Thus we are avoiding this years and next years price increase. :)

Well, based on the Disneyland (California) ticket price increases announced today, which go into effect on Sunday, this year's WDW increases could be significant.

Admittedly Disneyland is a bit of a different situation, since they are about to do the grand re-opening of Disney California Adventure and the opening of the new Cars Land, but the price increases are stunning.

Most Disneyland Park Hoppers are going up about 10%. Annual Passes are skyrocketing in price: the Disneyland Premium Annual Pass goes from $449 to $699!

With the new Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom about to come online, increases could be similar at WDW this year...

Actually it's going from $499 to $649. It's a $150 increase which is about 30% ... ouch!

That price increase on the AP's in staggering if you ask me.

If it's similar in Florida there is not a chance in the world that I will renew our AP's. We've gone enough that other vacation destinations are calling me already.
I expect a yearly increase .. it's a business after all. But everyone has their moment where they say "Well.. that's it for me." And 30% on the AP's would be it in this household.

WDW might not raise the tickets to try to pay for the FLE.

And DL might not have raised the prices to pay for the DCA expansion.

Not exactly.

But my hunch is that they just think they can get away with it at these strategic marketing points.

Thanks for the links. I can't believe a one day pass to Disney was $3.50 in 1971! Amazing.

Remember this was in the days of the ABCDE ticket books, which also cost money. Still, I get your point.

Yeah, that would be a tough pill to swallow for sure. We'll just have to wait and see.

The marketing point is a good one--hadn't thought of that before.

It's not like a delivery guy backed up the truck with Journey of the Little Mermaid on it and left an invoice with NET 30 on it, so Disney has to raise prices now to come up with the extra Benjamins. But it could be there's enough people that think that's how it works. ;)

The situation in DLR and WDW are not really that comparable. It's been known for sometime that Disney feels there are too many APs at DLR and would like to cut back the number. It may even be that tha majority are APs. That price increase seems more about reducing the number of APs there and increasing day passes.

At WDW the percentage of APs is much lower. And WDW is a destination resort with week long stays very common. DLR is not considered to be a destination resort. Pricing at WDW will be based on different factors so DLRs 30% doesn't really tell you anything about WDW.

I agree with you that DLR is trying to reduce the number of APs, and huge jumps in AP prices have been taking place for years there. The cheapest AP at DLR has gone from $119 in 2006 to $269 in 2012 - an increase of 125%. Clearly it has been determined that low-priced APs were not sustainable in Southern California, where there are over 14 million people within easy driving distance.

However, the regular DLR ticket prices are ALSO going up very substantially. I guesstimated the increases were about 10% when I posted last night, but after doing the math it's worse than I thought on some tickets.

1-Day Park Hopper is going up by 19% for adults, 20% for kids.
2-Day Park Hopper is going up by 16% for adults, 17% for kids.

The more modest increases are on non-Hopper tickets, which are going up by 4% to 9%.

When ticket prices go up, does an increase in package cost immediately follow? If not - any idea when the increase will be reflected in package cost?

In the past the package rates were locked in through the end of the calendar year. The increases in ticket prices and room rates are not reflected in the packages until the new year.

It's always possible Disney will change this, but I don't think it's likely because it has contractual obligations on its package prices with a lot of wholesalers (Costco, AAA, etc.) that are by calendar year.
