Tiana's Bayou Adventure Opening Day

We rode Tiana's twice this weekend and didn't get drenched either time. Having said that, the rider in seat 1 absolutely did lol. And ironically they were the only one both days NOT wearing a poncho.

On Friday, since we were staying for Fantasmic (did the Rancho package) and fireworks, we absolutely did not want to risk getting soaked so brought ponchos and a change of shoes. We were seated in seats 4 and 5. Unlike some reports I've read, there was not a pool of water on the log floor when we sat down. Maybe they've been adjusting the water levels, as some have speculated. We got misted and splashed a bit, but even without the ponchos, it would've been fine. I had on flip flops, and didn't even need to dry off my feet before putting my sneakers back on at the lockers.

We also rode in seats 3 and 4 and again, there was splashing with a little more in seat 3 this time, but not even close to being drenched. It felt similar to our experiences with Splash, where sitting in the first two rows felt like buckets of water pouring down on you, and the other rows less so. With Splash, we sometimes asked for a back row if we didn't want to get too wet, but didn't try here since it's previews.

Guess we just got lucky not getting one of the first two seats. We were definitely prepared just in case. But I'm looking forward to sitting in a front seat on a warm day.

That's super interesting. We were in seats 1-4. Seat 1 got the tidal wave during the big drop. Seats 3 and 4 didn't get wet during the big drop (as is shown in Five Fires video), but got drenched in the dark drop in the bayou portion of the ride. The water came from our right side and poured in over the entire length of the log. This is not my video, but this is the drop I am talking about.

I'm not sure if it is true, but I read that it depends on how many logs they are running. We rode within the first half hour yesterday. As we walked up, most of the logs only had a couple of people. Our log was full. I'm not sure if that made a difference.

I think this is what happens. Look at the 2:39 mark in this video. As the log goes down the drop, water splashes up against the wall. There are quarter circle round cut outs (on the left at this drop) that basically re-direct the splashed water directly into the log. The displaced water pushed against that curved wall is what is dumped on top of you. Maybe it depends on how much water is displaced when your log drops.

It's so interesting how different our experiences were. I have gotten soaked at that spot on Splash, with tons of water pouring in, so did expect it when I sat it seat 3, but didn't happen at all. Both our logs were full except for seat 6, which they didn't appear to be filling, at least on Friday or Saturday when we were there.

I've read some think how the group weight is distributed can also have an effect, which could go with the water displacement theory.

I guess the takeaway to make is expect to be drenched, and then see what happens lol 🤷‍♀️

Weight distribution+Physics? Or water adjustments? lol
Either way, as much as I would want to sit front row for the scenery, I dont want to be soaked...

So at Walt Disney World, Tianna's is available through the Virtual Queue only after 4 months. I guess here at DL ..it will be VQ at the opening and for a while after opening. Florida's weather is warmer than Anaheim's in the winter months (usually!?). I am just wondering how long the VQ will last at DL.

I’m sorry, but this just doesn’t look fun to me. A log full of water? No thank you.

This is what was happening before the refurb. The weight of the boat may matter some. When I got soaked, with water in the bottom of the boat, I was with a freind of mine who is a pretty large guy. Teh CM loaded him into the front row! The CM and I exchanged a knowing look, but I went with it figuring it would be funny (my friend had never been at DL before, only WDW). I wore a poncho on that ride, and it got filled with water too. Like I had a pool of water that I was holding, but didn't want to dump into the boat to give all of the people behind me wet(ter) shoes.

It doesn't seem like that aspect has changed. Tiana's Bayou Adventure - you may will get wet!

Even though the weather is generally warmer in Orlando, I'd rather get wet at DL. It is so humid in Florida that you never really dry out. That dry California air makes you dry faster, even when it's cooler out. Granted I wouldn't want to do it when it's in the 60's, but 75 in Anaheim is better for drying out than 95 in Orlando is.

Disneyland still has not posted any updates on the opening. I am sure it will be a Virtual Queue since WDW did that and still does even after 4 months.

What is the consensus on how long Disneyland's TBA VQ will be? Do you think it linked to when the regular Haunted Mansion and the new queue and gift shop opens? I think it will be linked and my thinking is HM will be ready sometime in February and the NOS RR station will open then. Maybe the Tiana VQ lasts 3 months or so?

lol

I don't get how this is happening unless they are doing it on purpose...I know...I know they have ways to make it where you get less wait on Splash and Jurassic Park/World. Like I know its testing but weird not to test its winter mode.

Only kinda good thing...is it could drive some people not to ride it, lol

Smaller drops also got half of me when the wall of water comes up over side. Thankfully only 2 of us sitting in middle, however we saw other groups that were full log and nearly flooded too.

No reason to ride again but was fun to try once. You know it's wet when groups come back more soaked than Grizzly rapids. To me it's pointless to get drenched with normal cloths on and weird that Disney designed flume that way. Hopefully there's a way to adjust water levels. Splash didn't seem that bad.

This started to happen after the last major refurb of Splash. They changed the boats or did something that made it a lot more wet than it used to be, with boats taking on water. It sounds like they didn't correct it. Splash wasn't that bad for a long time though - only the last couple of years.

So my mom love GRR and we pack clothes to change for that…
I guess I‘ll have to do the same for Tiana‘s…
(So much about traveling light with only a lounge fly back pack… or I‘ll have to rent a locker…)

I planned on using rain gear like I did 2019 for splash and that worked perfectly even when the weight was distributed badly and big waves swapped in…

but I I don’t wanna take a chance…because some of the videos look like you could just sit in the water instead of in the log…

That's why my previous comment was that they should add lockers next to Tiana's, similar to what they have at GRR. Right now, the closest lockers are on Main Street.

As someone suggested above, I would bring a Ziplock for your phone. If you put your bags in the locker, you will probably still need your phone for VQ or LL

On the website page for GRR, it says the following. They need to add this on the Tiana's Bayou Adventure page.

Prepare to Get Soaked!

You will get wet on this attraction. Guests are encouraged to bring a waterproof poncho, an extra pair of clothes or a towel to dry off after the ride.
Lockers Available
Lockers are located next to the 20-foot-tall grizzly bear statue that marks the entrance to Grizzly River Run. Please stow phones, cameras and any other items that might be damaged by water. Lockers are available at no charge for the first 2 hours.

This!! Splash was one of our favorites. We used to ride in winter over and over again (not getting out of the log-no one else in line) and we never got drenched. The last time we rode as a family we got really soaked, my youngest getting the brunt of it. He would never ride it again and it was his favorite.

I was hoping they would install lockers when they did the change over to Tiana's.

I was hoping they wouldn't need lockers after the changeover...
My last ride on Splash was May of 2016 before the flooding logs. I just don’t like being wet. I almost always wore a poncho. And almost feel like you need full on rain gear now.

Wish they would adjust the water levels. I avoid GRR for this reason too. I don't mind some water but I don't want to be soaked.

Yeah, but at least GRR was always that kind of ride - very wet. Splash wasn't typically an absolute soaking. People want to ride Tiana's to enjoy the music and animatronics. The drop is fun and a little splash is expected, but nobody wants pooling water in the boat.
