THV Question?

Hi. We have a contract that went to ROFR yesterday for SSR. (I'm beyond pumped)

Anyway, assuming we pass ROFR, we will not be going this year, but next year hoping to do a THV for 7 nights.

My questions...At the 11 month window is it reasonable to assume I'd get this for a week? Is calling right at 9am the key?

Also, I didn't realize how many DVC people do split stays. We hate split stays. Is it possible to book 7 nights in a 1 bedroom at 7 months when we want to try another resort? What about 10 nights????

I can't tell you all how much I've been learning on these boards. I thought they were great for regular disney trips, I had no idea how much they would help me with this purchase. It amazes me when I talk to people that own DVC and don't know about the boards.

If I remember correctly, of the 60 THV units, Disney hasn't declared all of them into the association. Only declared units are available to be sold and used by members on points. That fact and the time of year, holidays, school schedules, etc. determines your chances. The earlier that you call the better.

You can book up to 7 nights on one call. You have to call back, the next day to add day 8.

Remember you are competing with 450,000 other DVC members for the available rooms and just because you see a resort, it doesn't mean that all of it's rooms are available to the members for booking. Disney books some of the rooms for cash and some are scheduled for maintenance.

It really just depends on the time of year you are trying to go. If you want a Christmas week, yes right at 9am is essential and you might still miss out, other times you can probably call anytime that day and get your villa. It really comes down to how many other people want what you want at the same time. One week might be more popular than another, but with a waitlist you have pretty good chances if you call early.

As for other villa's at 7 months, it again just comes down to where you want and time of year. BCV will be more difficult during food and wine or BLT might be hard anytime. If you are flexible, your chances always go up. The key is to always book your home resort first and then change at 7 months, don't wait until 7 months hoping to get somewhere else.....remember the saying that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

That's correct . Of the 60 units, only 30 are dedicated to DVC right now, so Jupers 9 A.M. at the 11 month window is the best time to try and get one. Good Luck.

Well it happened to me. I was able to only get 3 nights out of a week at THV calling early a.m. on my 11 month window. We ended up doing a split stay. This was for the first week of May 2010, not a particularly busy time at DVC. As it turned out, we didn't like the THV so my bad luck turned out to be good luck.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE the THV's. We have stayed there twice, and are planning a 3rd trip in December there. We are staying over Christmas week for 10 nights! I called on the 11 month mark around 9:15 for my 1st 7 nights, and over the next 3 days I called before 10-10:15 and got each night. I read here that within a week of that 11 month booking window opening up, things were booked up already.

We started out with SSR points and added a resale at SSR last year just so we would have the 11 month booking option at the THV's. I think you need it with only 30 of them (in DVC inventory) to go around.

FYI- for our other two trips, I called the morning booking opened up for them on both occasions as I did not want to miss staying there.

I would concur with heynowirv's advice, jupers. We have a TH booked for 6 nights in late June as part of a split stay. I called on the first day of the 11 month window around noontime. The CM from MS mentioned how fortunate I was using my home resort priority. I got the feeling that was an indication that I got one of the last few remaining of the DVC 30 THs. Not sure how you feel about walking a reservation, but I'd at least be on the phone the morning the 11 month window opens.
