THV or SSR what are the pros and cons of each??THANKS,,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We love the idea of THV! We are only a family of four however, so as far as needing all of that space--well, we don't need it, but heck, we'll take it!

Pros we see of THV for us: there are no neighbors on the other side of the wall yelling at their kids, or kids doing the yelling, or banging around packing or unpacking late at night, there are no people/kids walking/running past your door really early in the morning or late at night talking, yelling, etc. We like the idea of it being removed from everything. We live in the country at home with over 130 acres of corn fields around us, so we like it quiet.

Cons we see for us: I wasn't impressed with the pictures I saw? They looked like they had the same furnishings they did when originally built...I know they aren't but don't really like the style (don't like BLT either--I'm more of a beachy laid back feel BCV or OKW) Obviously some people would not like the remote location of the villas. I'm also wondering about bugs since they are in the woodsy area and so close to the water. I've also heard that parking may become a challenge since there is only one space for each TH.

We have not stayed there yet, but plan to next summer. These are the things that we have taken into consideration.

Hi,,

Thanks, these are the things we have considered too.. I thought I was just being me when I commented about the furniture too......I hope that it is ok since I too am the same as you and do not care much for the furnishings at BLT either......I am a beach girl but love the way SSR is decorated though!!

I like the furnishings at SSR too. The resort has the high class/luxurious feel to it like Saratoga does. SSR is a very pretty resort, the High Rock Springs pool is very pretty. I know some people don't like the resort because of the size, but that has never bothered us, but we always have a car, traveling by WDW transportation alone would definately make me reconsider.

When we stay at THV next summer, it will be a split stay (we are staying for 2 weeks) and will probably only stay at THV for 4-5 nights. We really only need a 1 bedroom, so we don't need the space or to "pay" the higher point values. Our home resort is SSR and we really want to give them a try. We don't have high expectations going it, so I'm hopefully we'll be surprised and not disappointed.

I totally agree with you about the feel of SSR......We love it and it just has that "feeling" to it ........It feels like home to us......

We are planning on doing two weeks too so maybe we will stay part of the time at THV and then move over to SSR!!!!!!!!!!

Our family of 5(all adults) will be staying at a THV Sept. 6-11. We'll let you know how it is. I'm extremely excited about it. I've wanted to stay in a treehouse for YEARS. :goodvibes

Our home resort is SSR and we are dying to stay there. We just bought this past May while traveling with good friends who also own at SSR. We stayed at OKW and AKV.

We are going to WDW next October and are thinking of doing a split stay at SSR; half at THV and half at SSR. DH thinks the SSR is the neatest thing since sliced bread luckily as that was the cincher for us buying DVC. :goodvibes

We bought add-on at SSR so we can try the THV. We were not able to stay in them when they were open before.

We have a quick trip down in Oct but they were booked. We are waitlisted but not expecting anything. This will be our first trip to WDW as owners.:cool1:

First thing, THV is SSR. THV is a part of SSR. So you are asking for the difference between a THV and a two bedroom villa both at the same resort.

THV sleeps nine, two bedroom only sleeps eight.

Two bedroom has a king sized bed in the master bedroom, THV has a queen bed in the master bedroom.

You have as many parking places as you need outside your two bedroom villa. You only have one at THV.

Both only have two bathrooms. At THV they are smaller than in the two bedroom.

You can catch a bus to the theme parks from any two bedroom villa location. You have to take a bus to the Grandstand bus stop from THV to get a theme park bus.

There is a set of bunk beds at THV. No bunk beds in two bedroom villas.

There is a single sleeper chair at THV. There is no single sleeper chair in the two bedroom villa.

You can get a two bedroom villa close to a themed pool. There is no themed pool close to the THV (you'd have to go to the Grandstand).

We just stayed in July. Alexander said it perfectly - the quiet is so nice. Seriously, not having yelling screaming families next door or in the hall was worth every single point.

How did you find it being so far away from the main stuff @ SSR??Thanks,,!!

The first question I would ask is how the 3rd bedroom fits into your vacation plans. If you have young kids who will enjoy the bunk beds--and adults who will enjoy the separation--that makes it a virtual slam dunk in favor of the THV in my eyes.

We stayed at the Treehouses in June. Party was DW and I, two kids, my parents and a 14yo niece. The adults each had their own bedroom, kids had the bunk beds and niece on the sofa. It couldn't have been much better.

If we had stayed in any other Two Bedroom villa, we would have had to give the master suite to my parents and DW and I would have been in the second bedroom with our kids for the week. Not nearly as...magical. ;)

Would I decorate my house with that sort of decor? Not a chance. Did we feel a little removed from things. Yeah, at times.

But all things considered the experience was better than expected and the room fit our party better than any other. We loved all of the nice touches Disney is adding to the newer resorts. And as others mentioned there was no fear of other guests bothering us during the stay (nor did we worry about our kids bothering others.) No regrets here.

Also, the THV is removed from the themed pools at Grandstand and Carriage House. But it does have a quiet pool of it's own which is nearby. :goodvibes

And it has it's own boat dock which is a plus. :thumbsup2

We don't normally rent a car while at Disney - the DME saves a lot of money - esp. with the increased rental rates these days...but I would think to stay at THV's we'd need cars... Surely, with the units sleeping 9 there are many people with more than 1 car. What are they making people do with the 2nd vehicle? Where do they have to park??:confused3 We were thinking about trying a THV in a couple of years with some extended family and I'm sure there would be more than 1 car involved...

Disney didn't have any choice. The original treehouse development from the '70s only planned for one parking space per unit. The wetlands restrictions prevent them from paving any new spaces.

Guests are asked to park in The Grandstand. Shuttle buses run on 10-minute loops between The Grandstand and the THV area all day long. And really it's not a very long walk at all. Here's the map from our stay:

The blue line illustrates the walk from The Grandstand parking lot to the treehouse area. It's just a quick trip around one of the buildings and between holes on the golf course. About 2-3 minutes. Probably similar to walking from the BWV self-park lot to the building's main entrance.

Then it's just a question of how far away the unit might be. We were in one of the further units and that purple line was about 3 minutes worth of walking. No, it's probably not a trip I would want to repeat 8x per day. If you can make use of one vehicle most of the time it would be to your advantage.

Thank you for the THV map! We're a group of 5 adults considering a THV for November. We need to book fast or they will be gone, and we're trying to soak up all the info we can get! It's just a short trip so we're trying to decide if it will be too time consuming to have to transfer buses at SSR from THV, or to walk over from THV to SSR, then wait for a bus. How was your experience with the time to get from THV to a park?

We are looking forward to staying at the THV next May! We based our decision on only a few things:

Pro:
1. we like the idea of staying at a new place each trip. We love Disney and don't want it to be "the same trip, a year later". We try to stay at a different resort each trip - we loved SSR, but are looking forward to a new resort (even if it's part of the same overall SSR).

2. we like the number of beds for THV, and cannot afford to stay at a 3 bedroom. DS7 and DD9 will not sleep in the same bed together. And, DD3 cannot sleep with anyone in the same bed -- it just doesn't work! Although we could use the pull-out in the living area of a 2 bedroom SSR room, we like the idea of each child having their own bed for the duration of our vacation - just like home.

Con:
1. I'm not excited with the idea of getting on one bus to get on another bus before we get to the parks. We will most likely fly to MCO and not rent a car; thus, we'll need to use Disney transportation. Maybe something will change with the bussing situation before our scheduled trip.

The shuttles run about every 10 minutes. So you will probably average an extra 15 minutes travel time each way when staying at the Treehouses and using bus service.

Walking time will vary depending upon the treehouse to which you are assigned. From the closest one it's no more than 5 minutes on foot to the bus stop at The Grandstand. Being in one of the more distant treehouses could more than double that time.

I believe I've read that people do 6-8 miles per day of walking at WDW. Walking from the Treehouses to The Grandstand is a drop in the bucket compared to that. Biggest impact is probably psychological--assuming one knows what to expect from a WDW trip in the first place.
