ThunderStorms

So if this was me...yes, I would be disappointed. I do remember our trip in 2015, I checked and forecast looked awful. It did wind up changing and was just oppressively humid. If it had been this bad we would have been ok as my in laws did not do AK and we spent most of the trip indoors on rides. Besides the Carousel, we literally did no outdoor rides cuz we were trying to keep cool. Yes, it will put a damper on things and make walking in the parks unpleasant. Prepare and follow these other peoples tips for dressing, get a poncho big enough to wear over any backpack you would carry. As long as you're prepared, I think you could make the best of it, you'll still be in Disney!! All you can do is hope there's some break in the weather, fingers crossed.

I'll be there 5/15-26 and it looks like for the first week it's not typical summer convection type rain but a tropical(ish) low that they're predicting will camp out over Florida for a few days. One of these flooded our business with 7 feet of water a couple of years ago. I'm hoping for the best but packing my Keens, Frog Toggs and umbrella!

To be fair to those heading to Disney this week, the rain isn't ALWAYS just the passing afternoon shower - this week, the forecast looks like it may actually thunderstorm - not just rain - most of the day everyday. There is a system moving in that may just sit on the state all week. That is completely different than the afternoon shower and really can dramatically affect your plans.

I would be disappointed, too, if I saved and planned and this was my big vacation weather. There is no harm in showing disappointment and wishing for better weather.

This is what I'm wondering. I have family there now. And we have been to Florida MANY times. We know to expect the typical afternoon Thunderstorm that lasts 20 minutes to an hour. What I am seeing on the weather *appears* to be something different. It's looking like all day rain and all day thunderstorms. I'm not there to listen to the local weather, but is that the case or is the typical afternoon stuff they are calling for with sun the other parts of the day?

I swear by my sturdy, waterproof Tevas sandals & could never stand any kind of socks/running shoes in wet weather. Different strokes, I guess.

We wear Keens, but yes. No way would I wear athletic shoes and socks if it was supposed to rain a lot.

I'm in St Pete - our weatherman told us we may need to build an ark by Wednesday so... I'm expecting not the usual afternoon showers that blow through. It's some big system that will be slowly moving across the state for the next 10+ days.

It's been very dry here; the summer humidity and afternoon rain has NOT started yet. We need the rain but I'd prefer to not have it all day and night ;)

But with any weather in the south, I never believe it until I see the actual rain. It could change!

I think these storms are a bit more than the typical FL summer rain. But yes, from now through Sept, the forecast is pretty much the same. Rain and thunderstorms. Never know when never know how long. Just prepare for them daily. Then around Aug the hurricanes always act up and threaten FL, so REALLY watch out around Aug-Sept. That seems to be the sweet spot for hurricanes, mid-Aug through mid Sept.

I just keep telling myself:
You're not made of sugar
Maybe the crowds will be low
You won't be in Baton Rouge

I'm most bummed about my plans for pigging out at Flower and Garden and my planned Aquatica day.

We've had lighning (even in the absence of rain) really put a wrench in our plans, occasionally ruining whole afternoons & evenings, as no outdoor rides or pools will stay open. Ponchos don't solve that.
We have, too, but we never let it ruin our day. Alter our plans perhaps but never have we let it kill our day.

I guess there is a lot some families can do while sitting in their resort room for hours...But we come to Disney to tour the parks, and swim in the resort pools during our downtime. When lightning prevents any of that, it is a legitimate bummer.

Not everything closes when it is lightening. Outdoor rides and such sure. But everything inside still operates. We've done indoor attractions, visited giftshops, galleries, monorail resorts....we've never been made to sit in our resort rooms because of weather. Now I know they did that during the last hurricane but not during a run of the mill tropical thunderstorm. So again, it is what you make it.

I hate it for you. It sucks getting poured upon while sweating underneath a poncho. We’ve all been there and hate it as much as you do. All you can do at this point is suck it up and try to take advantage of the short lines for the indoor rides. I really am sorry but, I’ll trade you! A rainy day at Disney is better than working or cleaning or mowing the lawn or .....you get it. Hope you can make the best of it and have a great vacation anyway! pixiedust:

I have been zealously checking the weather forecast for the week. I am a bit disappointed with the rain and thunderstorms. However, a rainy day at Disney does beat a good day at work. We bought some small umbrellas, I have my waterproof carry bag, and am ready to weather the storms. Last year in May we had zero rain and hot temps. We were spoiled. I look at it as an opportunity to have a different experience and find things to do that take us out of the rain. And we have a good excuse to go back again when the weather will hopefully be better.

Yes there is a system that will stall in the Gulf of Mexico for the next 7 days or so. This will NOT be your typical Florida rain storms. Unfortunately we are looking at rain for most of the day for the next week or so.

I am studying some of the long range computer models and it does look like the rain will push out of the area around the 19th or 20th and by that time will go back to the more "normal" FL summer weather pattern of a few storms here and there.

Sorry to all that will be there the next week.

Ugghh, just looked at the weather report on the local WESH station and they are calling Monday a "washout."

Yes it looks like tomorrow and Monday will be the worst 2 days with pretty much constant rain ALL day.

Except all the local news here said today was 10% chance of rain, even at 10:00 am, and it started raining at 10:05, and sprinkled /drizzled for 3 hours. These systems are unpredictable, so despiite the forecast, all is not lost. FWIW, I am a local and can attest that this is not going to be a normal summer rain pattern. But neither was the prediction for SWDS weekend, when all the boards were speculating about the Half being cancelled, and it didn't even rain until late morning.

I dont think its going to be a constant constant pouring rain.

There will be times when it goes to a very light drizzle and even stop for a little while. It just wont be those FL summer storms where it pours for 2 hours and then its over and sun comes out.
