Actually, it probably depends on the age of the adult. I am ... well let's just say that I'm old enought to remember watching the original "Supermarionation" version of Thunderbirds. I went to one of the Universal Employee Previews last Thursday. I thought the casting (with the exception of Bill Paxton) was very true to the original, and the movie very enjoyable. I had my 5yo son with me and he was transfixed throughout. (he even went hoome and drew numbers on his space shuttle and rocket toys and they became the Thunderbirds the rest of the weekend).
I enjoyed it much more than attempts to "Modernize" old shows like "Lost In Space" did.
