Hi there -

was just looking at Mouseplanet.com - they say that BTMR is undergoing changes (to the doors - to allow more disabled access, and to the queue) in August. If I see something somewhere, I come to the DISboards, since this is the BEST source of information out there on WDW!!

We're going in Sept, and DSs would be REALLY disappointed if BTMR is closed...

I also heard this rumor. I'm crossing my fingers that it's open in August. I'm bringing a newbie, and it wouldn't be fun for her to miss this one.

My kids will have a cow if BTMRR is down when we are there.

Oh no, I'll be there the last week of September, hope it's up and running by then or DS (7) will be extremely mad!!

I hope this isn't closed the last week of August. It was closed in November of 2000 when I went with my niece and nephew, and they were very disappointed that they didn't get to ride. They are both looking forward to riding it on this trip, and they keep on saying they'll be mad if it's closed again. I'll have to keep my eye open for this so I can warn my sister to warn the kids if it is closed again.

If anybody can find out, I just want to know if it'll be closed from August 17th - 22nd.

Will it be open in late July?

Just called Disney Club line and asked about BTMRR rehab? She said nothing shows yet. Also that they usually announce major rehabs two months in advance. So maybe we are safe. Between the horrendous crowds predicted in August and this, plus family worried about the heat, this may be a cancellation factor for us. Any CM's have the inside story??

Ok, I'm not a CM, and this is just what I've read other places, so again, PURELY rumor...but the dates I've seen are from the third week in August until right before Thanksgiving.

From their WDW update 6/16/03

A lick and a promise – We hear that Big Thunder Mountain has received enough spot repairs to keep the ride running until its scheduled rehab in August.

The foot guard on this Big Thunder Mountain train will replicate itself this summer to the rest of the rows. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.

Each of the trains will be cycled out of use this summer, and fitted with new foot guards. One row on at least one train will be fitted with a movable door instead of a guard, to make it easier for riders with disabilities to board the train. Other WDW rides, including Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, have swing-out transfer door for the same purpose.

When the ride closes in August, the queue will be slightly modified, but will still not be wheelchair accessible. Apparently the queue itself is wide enough for wheelchairs, but ramps installed to replace the few stairs would still be too steep to meet ADA requirements.

I hope this is not true. Its the one roller coaster my kids werent afraid of!!

The queue modification will be weird....that line's been the same for as long as I've been going, so my whole life pretty much! I don't deal well with change, I'll probably freak when I see it for the first time! It'll probably be better though...that ramp is VERY steep.

I just read those dates on a few other message boards....It does seem to be the common set of dates though, from several boards....no specific news source or anything, the mouseplanet article is a lot more reliable than my sources. :D

Not to be a wet blanket, but I think it would be better if they closed down BTMRR during a slow month like January. From all I've read lately, August is supposed to be pretty busy this year - Fairy Tale Package helped with that. Oh well, I'll just have to ride Splash Mountain a few more times instead.;)

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hope this is not true!!!

Uggg..that stinks if it is true. :( Maybe that is why there are no E-ticket nights the last week of August. If they do have them in Sept/October I wonder what they will open instead of Big Thunder.

They did not have e-ngihts that week last year either. I researched before I booked our days this August. Bumped trip up a day earlier to hit the last one.

They added one last year a few days before the last week of August. They did this in 2001 also- they added one on the 31st a few days before we left. For some reason wdwig.com and DIS do not have these ones listed-maybe because they were last minute ones.

does anyone think, or know it will be open for late october?

thanks:D
