I understand that Disney has put into effect some new rules regarding the throwaway rooms. I've used throwaway rooms before but haven't been to Disney in about a year so I have a question. I'm staying at the Poly for the first 2 nights of our stay then will be moving off site. I will make ressies for a throwaway room at the campground for the time I am staying off site. My question is, with the new rules will I be required to actually appear there, at the campground, to check in?

Thanks :)

the camp ground is pretty expensive . would it be worth it to just get 60 day fastpasses

We did a throwaway at the camp grounds in early November. We had 9 people with 2 cars. Both cars get free parking at the parks ($25 each). We took mid day breaks at the Fort Wilderness pool (brought our own beer and food). We did on line check-in but stopped to put credit cards on individual credit cards. Remember that the free parking is good for the check-in day and the check-out day. 60 day fast passes. It was worth it for us.

I think the only “rule changes” are:

A) No more rolling window for FP, you get the days you pay to be onsite
B) If you cancel your stay FP are canceled (this as already against Disney rules they just found a way to enforce it properly)

You still get all of the benefits for staying onsite since you are paying to be onsite for the dates you have the reservation (regardless of your desire to actually camp). In the case of the campground:

magic bands
Parking at the parks
EMH
60 FP (for days onsite)

In theory, and as noted by the pp, you can actually use the pool, go to any other events that they do, use it for a home base while onsite if you want. And yes, I can see circumstances where people decide that they want the perks of being onsite but do the cost benefit analysis and realize that 2 rooms at all stars will cost them as much as an offsite house plus the campground (ya, I was shocked when I realized that myself), the larger your group the more this will have an impact.

there are other strategies for how to handle booking, IMO Disney will catch onto an every other night booking and that would, to me, be a lot to go through to get the stated perks. But to each their own

also, this would work if you wanted to stay during free dining and did an analysis that shows that an all stars stay is worth the cost for free dining, I don’t see that being the case but I have not done the analysis myself. Again the worth will be up to each person individually...
