Through Fresh Eyes...One Week Left 5/1

Okay okay okay, so I've got to fess up to something here: I want this trip to happen so badly, but the pre-planning is wigging me out. I started with us going for Valentine's Day. My hubby was iffy. I got double the time when I pushed out to April, but I made him stick to it because he promised me when we got married that we'd go somewhere five years out, and April is our 5th year anniversary. Then I did some thinking about how, if Matt starts a job when he finishes his bachelors, we should only assume he can take about a day off for every month he's worked, so I pushed it out to May. Then Matt (le hubs, he's a good and smart man) started getting excited about a Masters program. I'm good with this, I'm getting a masters myself. GUESS WHEN OUR VACATION IS SCHEDULED!? Finals week, my friends! Oh, get excited! Adventures in awful wait around the bend!

So now I'm looking at rescheduling. Like, again. For real. And maybe changing resorts. Just to spice things up. OH! And maybe my cousin will come.

*sings* Watch and you'll see....someday I'll be....PART OF (THE) WORLD!

:lmao: Why not just go back to the April dates? And don't worry, I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually. :cheer2:

The week before Finals is never a good week to miss, there are usually loads of papers and projects due, as well as very helpful final reviews in class, so April's out. I've been staring at my calendar for most all of my morning!

Wow ... sounds stressful.
I hope you can find a date that works perfectly for you guys!

Keep us updated as the rescheduling happens.

Awww, thanks for the support! I'm not letting it get to me too much. I think it's all solved now; more than anything I worry about any notes the Reservation Cast Members may have put on my file by now. "Will probably call and change it again tomorrow, just get her off the phone as soon as possible so you can work on getting your commission calls." :P No, not really. They've all been lovely. I still feel like I'm wasting their time though.

I do think we've finally got it all figured out, so I'm about to do a small update. :)

KATMARK! I see you but I can't quote you? I think vBulletin is having some glitch issues. Thank you for joining in!

Amanda, the DIS is acting up so no worries there.

Your family is adorable.

And I'm anxious to see if you change dates again and where you might change your resort to. :)

oh man, i'm sorry to hear about the upcoming changes! but, it must be some mysterious pixie dust floating around and something truly magical will happen when you do finally get there, right? keep us posted!

OKAY- when I last updated I was pretty sure going to Disney World was going to circumvent my ability to take my final exams.

I think I've finally got our reservation where it will be the best for us; I fixed it a week ago and have managed to not adjust it since! We're going just one week later, leaving on Saturday, May 9th, landing in the morning in Orlando, and then we'll check out and fly home on Sunday, May 17th. That Sunday we won't have time for anything but breakfast, but before that...8 days of park time! And pool time! And generally having a magical time! All nights will be spent in AoA despite not being able to book the Little Mermaid room on Military Discount. It will make the trip have a little something extra for Squeaks, and that makes us all happy.

So the big sigh for me here is that it's seven months away. But here's the perfect thing about seven months: I still need to make 8 dresses, don't I? that's a bit more than a dress per month. And of course, Squeaks wants approximately ALL THE DRESSES DISNEY HAS EVER DRAWN/RENDERED. So...I can keep myself busy, but as I can't re-make all of them, I shall prioritize!

I asked her who her favorite Princess is, assuming we can safely start there. The following conversation happened:
Me: Hey Squeaks, which Disney Princess is your favorite?
Squeaks: SLEEPING BEAUTY!
Me: ....have you ever seen Sleeping Beauty?
Squeaks: No, I just like dat one.
Me: Why?
Squeaks: *sighing as though this should be plain as day to me* Because Sleeping Beauty is sleeping and I like sleeping!

So, a Sleeping Beauty dress it is.

But who will win the great color debate: Flora or Merryweather? Let's hear your prediction!

Also, I'm going to be sewing tonight! Here's your hint: It's a dress I plan on her wearing to Akershus....any guesses? (This one will be harder, but still fun to hear your guesses!) Stay tuned for pics!

Well thanks, love! You and your hubs are pretty adorable yourselves. I hope Matt and I are having half so much fun when we hit 25 years together!

Aww, I really hope you're right about the pixie dust, though I think Tinkerbell may have visited us already because these dates work out that Matt gets to see Darth Vader and Squeaks gets to eat with Jedi Mickey(if they do that dinner again). How fun is that?! :tink: (Thanks, Tink!)

:cool1::cheer2: Yay for fixing your dates!!!:cheer2::cool1: And now we are going to be there pretty much the same time! Don't forget in your planing that May 10th is Mother's Day! Not that you can go wrong with a Mother's day at Disney World. :flower3:

Yes! I've read two precisely contradictory reports on that: one said low crowds, the other said high. I feel a little accidentally selfish about it, but oh well! Happy Mother's Day to me!

All caught up. I think your new plans sound great. Congrats on the tickets and being able to link them.

I must say that I am thoroughly exhausted just reading about all the dresses you plan to make (but then I can't sew a button to save my soul).

DH definitely needs an extra pair of shoes...especially if you get a really rainy day.

I hope our plans work out! I worry a bit that all of the advance planning one has to do makes for a rushed vacation . We'll probably be fine though. It's Disney! The happiest place on Earth!

I love sewing. It reminds me of my late mother, who taught me. She also started my love of Disney, so letting her be a part of this feels appropriate. Kind of like the balloons you do in honor of your Dad!

I have convinced Matt to let me buy him a nice pair of Keen sandals. I'm probably going to sneak a new pair of Rainbow brand flip flops, too. Shh!

The way I look at it, as Mommy it is our choice in the end on where to spend it. I'll take a moment to call my own mom for sure but in the end the day is set aside to give us mommies a day of rest. What better way to do that then our happy place!!!

I hadn't heard anything on crowds for that day. Nothing I've read seems to indicate that Mother's day is a super crowded holiday. My plan is to go in expecting high crowds and be pleasantly surprised by low ones.

:yay: yay! i'm glad you got your dates all squared away! and that everybody gets to be there at a time when they can do something extra special!

I love squeaks reason for liking sleeping beauty! too cute! I saw a sleeping beauty dress somewhere that someone made blue and pink. it was cute, so you know, if you can't choose, that's always an option! :thumbsup2

This may be the greatest conversation ever. I officially love Squeaks!

7 months, 8 dresses ... that should be fun.
I'm going to guess Flora wins ... because Aurora wears pink in the parks and all of the official princess stuff.

I'm so glad you finally got the dates worked out! AoA is awesome (it's where I stayed on my last trip and I'm staying on my next trip), and I'm sure Squeaks will love it. And 8 days of park time ... amazing!

I can't wait to see/read more! I hope the sewing is going well!

Heck yes it is our choice! I don't really plan on capitalizing on the Mom's Day bit this year. Perhaps I'll ask the cast member who serves me dessert at dinner to give me a high five, but I'm pretty sure my family being together at Disney World will be the best possible Mother's Day anyway, am I right?

I'm glad, too!

I was so surprised by that! And when I asked her why, "because I like sleeping" was not an answer I expected to come out of my child for about another twenty years or so. I should try reminding her about how cool she thinks Sleeping Beauty is when it's bedtime, maybe....either way, I pre-ordered the movie so we can watch it.

I saw the blue and pink dress, too! I'll have the pattern, so it's definitely an option for someday. I've bought the fabric for this round, though.

Thanks! I love Squeaks, too. ;) She's pretty fantastic.

I really hope AoA is all my Squeaks hopes it will be. I think if I maybe get her the Little Mermaid bath toys as a surprise start-of-trip present, bathtime will be extra magical. (Have you seen the Mermaid room bathtubs? Let me just say as a girl who came up when Ariel was super cool: OMG.)

8 days of park time! WOOOHOOOOOO can it be May now? I really need to work on my patience.

Sewing is going well! I have completed my first bodice! Woo! Pic of our Akershus dress should be along any day now.

Sounds about what my plans for the day are. My only request is a FP+ reservation for the Wishes fireworks, a spin on the peoplemover, and a dole whip float.

I love those bathrooms ... I love the whole place, but I think the shower/bathtub is my favorite. I think OMG is really the only thing you can say. It's so amazing.
