Just looked at my Thrifty rental confirmation and noticed that on my rental IATA # 00170201 is listed (just below my discount code). This is not good news. FYI each travel agency is assigned an IATA #. I am afraid that I will try to rent the car at MCO and will be asked for a travel agent ID (which I do not have).

Has anyone actually rented (not just reserved) a car at MCO using this discount code (AU02) and if so, were you asked for any ID????

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

From Thrifty:

Thank you for visiting the Thrifty Car Rental interactive website.

At present, AU02 was a promotion special on Minivans and Economy Cars. This promotion offered on Travelzoo.com offered a low weekly rate on both of these vehicles. Unfortunately, this promotion is no longer available as the expiration date was December 16, 2003.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered regarding this matter.

If you have any further questions or inquiries you may contact our Internet Support Desk at 1-800-527-7075 within the U.S. and Canada, or 1-918-669-2168 outside the U.S. and Canada.

We look forward to serving your car rental needs and thank you for choosing Thrifty.

Sorry to repeat this on this thread...but....
What should I do? Cancel ressie (I have a confirmation from Thrifty that I am using this code in Dec for a great rate) or what???
I need advice...I have never rented a car before and am confused..

I have a reservation with that same code, and I am not seeing an IATA # anywhere. We have an 8 day rental, it says EST. BASE RATE 1 week @ $169/week, 1 extra day@ $35/day with unlimited miles. Our trip is before yours; if we go ahead with this rental I'll be sure to post our experience. Hopefully someone else comes along soon to reasure us both though!

Yikes, just read your second post! Did Thrifty just send you that e-mail? I have had this reservation since 9/6 and haven't recieved anything from them! I might have to go with my Alamo reservation instead for $50 more.

Regarding the IATA: 00170201, I believe this sort of represents Thrifty's own travel agency when you book through their web site. I just made a reservation for June 2005 not using the AU02 code (actually used SAMS), and it's listed on my reservation if I go look it up online. I absolutely wouldn't worry about this part.

I've also made reservations for my other family members for our XMAS trip using the AU02 code and I really don't think you'll have a problem using it, but I would like to see some recent reports of people who have used it. When I originally booked with it after getting it from mousesavers.com, I did a search on these boards for it and found that several people had used it and no-one had encountered any problems. I have found when trying to use it for my March 2005 or June 2005 reservations, it was not valid, so I'm guessing it actually expires the end of 2004, but I'm not sure.

I just checked on my reservation on-line, everything looks the same, however I did see that IATA # this time, it is not on my origional sheet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I actually booked with an agent on their 1-800 # using AU02.

I am very worried. Pricing out other options doesn't look good.

Very pricey.

Yikes

Once again, don;t worry. And remember the cardinal rule of travel, bring your paperwork with you. I just used the code and everything was fine. I ALWAYS bring my paperwork just in case. i.e. they could say that wasn't the correct fare, or if they lost a reservation, etc.

I also have a Thrifty rental during the beginning part of December with a rentalcodes.com "Wal-Mart" code that was supposed to be for everyone and at the bottom of my agreement it says that I have to have a Wal-Mart cc and that I must be the primary person on the card etc. etc. and I don't even have one. So, I have been looking around since I was so worried and I just now found a much better deal that might work for you all. Try Dollar with code MAG... I'm getting $282.41 for 1 week ($166.99) + 2 days ($38.99 each) for a minivan. This is a better rate than the last time that I checked it with this same code. HTH :)

Was told that I was given incorrect info. last night. The code is still valid until 12/31/2004 BUT all booking using this code must be internet bookings. I was told to cancel my Thrifty 1-800 # call centre bookings and re-book through the internet.

So I did.

Still interested in hearing from anyone who have used this code lately at MCO .

Thanks

Suzy

Hi!

Just for an FYI I used the AU02 code last week (well Oct23-30) with no hitches, questions or any problems whatsoever!

Great deal.
And don't get taked on the Grand Caravan for an extra few bucks.. they're all Grand Caravans. ;)

jjan - I just checked on making a reservation at Thrifty with no code at all, and it has the note about Wal-Mart as follows:

Wal-Mart card qualifications: Customer must have $600 available credit and estimated amount of rental. Renter must be the Primary Wal-Mart Account Holder.

I believe this just means IF you're using a Wal-Mart card for payment, the conditions listed apply. It doesn't mean you have to use a Wal-Mart card.

So, if you're Thrifty reservation is a better deal, I'd keep it!

Mareed... Thank you so much for letting me know! I really wanted to have the option of using Thrifty, but I freaked when I saw the Wal-Mart cc thing :earseek:

The IATA number is used for more than just Travel Agents. It is frequently used to track third party business sources (ie Walmart, Sam's, TravelZoo) ect.

In fact, when a travel agent makes a reservation on your behalf it will also have an IATA number on it (the TA's) so Thrifty knows who is due the commision.

So again, I wouldn't worry. Not even a little.

Well that makes sense now. When I talked to Thrifty today they told me that the AU02 code is a travelzoo.com code. So does Thrifty use the IATA# in the ressie just for internal tracking of codes (so they know that the AU02 code originally came from the Travelzoo.com web site).

I checked the web site and can't seem to locate the AU02 code though???
