Okay,

I just have to brag.

Earlier this year, I got a pair of short black Harley Davidson boots for $2.98 at the local thrift store.

Well, tonight I went in and found a pair of nice, just barely broken in Mephistos. These Mephistos to be exact. $2.98 again. These I will pass on to my nephew with a link to the website. Or maybe keep for myself. I like a comfy loafer with chinos some days.

I'm doin' my little happy dance right now, thank you.

Wow - I know I wouldn't have recognized those as $300 shoes -- apparently the thrift store didn't, either. But I'm glad you did! :)

it depends.some thrift stores find 'names' and mark them up ridiculously high....which I refuse to pay for used items that are that expensive.... case in point, last week Savers had some Merrells, one pair marked 7.99-the other pair marked 39.99 :confused3
a pair of Earth shoes (the real ones) for 7.99,but they were so homely,I couldn't buy them no matter what..... I knew I'd never wear them....:rotfl: Mephistos are a great find!
one time I got real Vera Bradley tote at Goodwill that slipped under the radar...paid 2.99! usually they find and overprice those....

Oh yeah, I hear you on the overpricing. This same store also had a "Dooney Burke" crossbody purse behind the counter marked at $40.

1. I can get a DB crossbody purse from the outlet 20 miles away for $40 - $60. NEW.
2. It was a fake. The strap wasn't real leather.

:confused3 I suspect the store didn't realize what Mephistos are. I know only because I was going to buy a pair of Mephistos on a trip to Paris back in the 90's and talked myself out of it, and I've been kicking myself ever since. (This was when the Euro was only worth about .67 and people financed trips to Paris by going to the Hermes store and stocking up on scarves to sell when they got back.)

I was in the salvation army store here in my town. I find name brand fuller figgure clothing for a few bucks. This time I found a full sized mickey mouse doll that came from disney world. I paid a dollar for him. These things go for 25 to 30 dollars in the parks. That was years ago.I hate to see what they cost now.

At my locla Good Will I got some custom made curtains for my living room in a fabric and pattern that I absolutely LOVE! Luckily, they fit my windows perfectly! They were $5 for both curtains....but easily worth $250!!!

I have a co-worker who just got custom drapes and spent months agonizing over it. . .$250 is CHEAP for what you got, I suspect and to pay $5:cool1::banana:

Wow!!!That's an awesome find!!

I found a Clarisonic face brush that cost over 200 at my Goodwill..it didn't have a price tag.I asked the cashier how much it was and she said a dollar!I checked out right then!!:rotfl:She must have had no clue what it was..

Has anyone ever had any luck finding Disney plush at thrift stores? I would love to find a laying down version of the older style Disney bear that is now retired. Unfortunately the thrift stores near me very seldom have any Disney plush for sale. I've seen these bears on ebay, but they're so expensive!

I find Disney stuff here and there, but not always. I'm surprised by the amount of WDW stuff I find in California, and not so much on the DLR stuff.

Most thrift stores also use ebay or their own auction website. I believe Good Will has their own site. Which they will auction off higher ticketed item. But receiving doesn't always know what's a good deal and what isn't. Sometimes there's just as many items highly over priced (things with Disney marked on it are often over priced) as there are steals of the day.

Oh I get so jealous when I read these posts.
Our Goodwill stores have junk and they overprice it. Stuff like junk from Target with $2 Target price tags that Goodwill have placed a yellow price tag of $5 right next to it. Clothing is expensive, I looked at a pair of capris that they wanted $9 for that I had just gotten at Kohls on clearance for $2.40

a few weeks ago I got a brand new Fossil leather purse at Savers for 12.99- I thought it was pricey, but this purse is SO nice......:cool1:

We went to Goodwill yesterday -- did very well! They had a case with maybe 10 Disney watches -- I bought one (used, had to replace the band) that was in the original box with the original $75 price tag -- it was scratchoff day, and the watch was marked $9.99, but I got a 20% scratchoff. Also got a brand new, with tags, garment bag from JC Penney for $4.99, an Alexander Julian shirt with tags for DS15 for $3.99, USB keyboard, pair of speakers, a couple of other things... I was VERY happy with my finds! I may go back for another Disney watch.

You can't see it too well, but my daughter picked up this shirt a few weeks before our last trip at a local thrift shop for $1.98. It is a Disney World with a patchwork Mickey embroidered onto it...so cute. I would have bought this exact shirt for her in the store! She rocked it with her Mickey ears!

HOLY COW! I own that t-shirt.... I bought it at Disney just last year (May 2010) and it was my "splurge" at about $25 (I hate spending that much for a t-shirt).

I'd be over the top excited if I found something nice like that at our local thrift store! Great job!................P

DING DING DING! I HATE this..if you want to be an antique or specialty shop then BE one..if you want to be a THRIFT store..where all your inventory is GIVEN to you then don't play the game of jacking up prices. My local Goodwill (HATE them)..had a pair of beat up Doc Martens for $35.00 really?? And they have raised their book prices to $2.99..no way. Another store 'thinks' they have good stuff and will randomly throw price tags of $20-$30-$100 on stuff that is is essentially crap. How about selling alot for a little instead of trying for a big sale?

Our Salvation Army has raised it's prices, in the last couple of weeks, since a new Goodwill store has opened. The Salvation Army store is packed as I'm assuming no one can now afford to shop there! I haven't been to the new Goodwill store yet....I should get over there and see what they have.
