Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I just wish I understood more about the Star Wars saga (I only saw the very first movie, which turns out over time to become the 4th? movie... 3rd? movie...) because it is a very awe inspiring section of the park; I just wish I could relate to it more.

Yes, the movies came out as follows:
#4-5-6 (1977-83) Original Trilogy
#1-2-3 (1999-05) Prequel Trilogy
#7-8-9 (2015-19) Sequel Trilogy

We got the main story, then the background, then a future. (People have fun arguments over what is now the "correct" order to watch them in.)

➡️ Here is a pretty good video summary of the first six films in less than 10 minutes. (Spoilers, obviously.)

The guy's pronunciation threw me a little in a couple of places (He makes Obi-WAN sound like Obi-ONE to me, and accidentally calls General Grievous, General Gree-VEE-us) but he's got the plot, and it's quick!

DD19s nursery decor - I found this Snoopy set that I fell in love with. All of the pieces were full of stars in the design. I still have the blanket (somewhere).

The Milky Way - I love when we're someplace that I can get a decent view of it with the naked eye. Aside from being beautiful, seeing it reminds me of just how small we all are in this universe. It's also fun to try and get nice pictures of it. It's just hard to wrap your mind around that relatively small swath in the night sky is literally full of billions upon billions of stars...and that's nothing compared to space as a whole.

The end of Spaceship Earth - While I love the ride as a whole, I love the part at the end when you're in space and Earth and all of the stars come into view. Obviously, the Earth is the big star in that scene but there are stars represented in it as well. It always reminds me of DD19s 5th bday trip where she thanked me in the middle of this scene for taking her to space on her birthday.

Well... Google Doodle is route 66 today celebrating centennial...so what are the Western Arizona ⭐ ✨ ⭐ ✨ ⭐ of route 66

Oatman... only place in the USA that a state route is closed for gun slinging pageantry and main Street wild burros wait for first time visitors leaving the small grocery store with full bag randomly hanging from their hand

A rock monolith all by itself...a perfect sculpture of a vintage Cadillac tail light .... evidence that bullhead City is radiator springs

Needles, California...a living ghost town... route 66 murals and motels from decades ago after the freeway was built

Skip Vegas.... you will remember your kicks on route 66 long after.... I can't remember anything about Vegas

Loved watching Bugs Bunny and all the Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid. Our TV watching was very limited, but I guess my mom was OK with those. (or maybe we just got up before her!)
I love those stars that you can stick on your ceiling and they glow when it's dark. My step GS has them on his bedroom wall which is painted a beautiful blue.
Love the painting, Starry Night.

Thursday
Looney Tunes cartoons ❤️❤️
Spaceship Earth
Seeing shooting stars and once seeing a spaceship blast off when I was in FL so cool

Start of the Triple Crown races - this is the hope every year that we might have another triple ground winner 🤔🤔 I have been so lucky to been able to see three in my lifetime But every year I always hope we have another I’m very grateful that I’ve gotten to see 3

TGIF Friends!

#1 - OUR WDW TRIP IN 2 WEEKS - I’m so grateful that my DD22 and I are able to go on this trip. Two celebrations this trip - I’ll be celebrating my 50th anniversary of my first trip to WDW in 1976 and my DD22 is celebrating her completion of the first year of her doctorate program.

#2 - CELEBRATING OUR MOMS - I’m very grateful that my mom and MIL are still with us to celebrate them next weekend.

#3 - NOTHING LOOKS DEAD ANYMORE - The trees are or will be full of leaves soon, flowers are planted or popping up from the ground, the grass is greener and etc. Winter is definitely over!

No more chance of snow ⛄

Funny...I went through college in upstate NY in an area prone to a ton of lake effect snow. We used to think May was safe. I graduated on Mother's Day. I remember waiting in a line outside of our dome and telling a friend it smelled like snow. They laughed at me. When it was all over, we came out to a heavy snow shower...something like 4-6". Same thing happened with my friends who graduated the year after me.

The start of summer/Memorial Day - I grew up in an area where we usually had nearly a full month of school after the Memorial Day holiday. So, May didn't feel like much, but the end of May in TX usually means the end of the school year. It's rare for us to have any form of classes after the holiday. So, the end of May signals the beginning of summer break.

My Bat Mitzvah - I was in an unusually large Bar/Bat Mitzvah class back in the day...to the extent that everyone had to double up and even some random holidays were handed out. As a result, mine ended up on Memorial Day. It was kind of a blessing (no pun intended) because the weekday meant no Haftorah (extra prayers I'd need to learn). It also meant the primary rabbi had a golf date and we got the much younger and fun assistant rabbi. For my parents, it meant cheaper prices for banquet facilities.

Travel Ball Starting Up - It's kind of bittersweet this year because I'm really enjoying the company of this year's school ball families. On top of that, I'm really hoping our girls win their next game so we can advance to the next round and keep the party going. Last night, I came up with a contraption involving a dinner bell and a pom pom that I'm really loving. In any event...as school ball winds down and teams get knocked out (or if your kid's team didn't make it at all), summer ball practices start and our first tournament is the very end of the month. Many of these families have been in our lives for a number of years now. In fact, I was reminded of that last night since the school we're facing in this round has something like 6 girls that DD has played or practiced with at various stages of travel ball with this specific org. So, May sort of signals a return to our travel ball family.
