Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Pretty much anything I do with my DGD, but especially coloring or anything creative.
Another fan of getting lost in a book.
Binge watching favorite TV shows with my DH in the evenings.
Honorable mention to anything that makes me laugh: movies, TV shows, comedians, funny pet videos, etc.

Escapes...

Spending time with DD32. Even if it's just grocery shopping, I love spending time with my daughter. It's so easy to forget the rest of the world when she and I are hanging out together, talking and laughing, even if we are talking about 'hard stuff.' She is the joy of my life!

Vacation, but especially to Disney. I don't even need a park ticket; I can be happy just being in a Disney resort, visiting other resorts, restaurants, lounges, etc. I think part of this is because it's a place I'm familiar with. When I go to Disney, I can feel the stress roll off me the minute I'm on property.

Ocean. I love being by the ocean. I don't "go to the beach" in the traditional sense of sun/sand/surf. I'm happier walking along the water's edge, sitting on rocks watching the ocean, etc.

Reading. I can lose myself for hours in a good book.

Chocolate is hard for me as I am not a huge fan. However...

CARAMEL starts with C! If I'm having candy, 99% of the time it'll contain caramel. Caramel and/or nuts are the only things that make chocolate tolerable, in my book. That goes for ice cream sundaes, too. Mine always have caramel, never fudge!

Cookies- current favorite is Pepperidge Farm Milano with lemon and white Chocolate, followed by the orange, raspberry, or mint milanos.
Coffee- two large mugs, every day. DH and I drink a 12 cup pot each morning.
Chowder- especially clam or corn (more that start with C!)
Cardigans- Nothing like a long, button front sweater with pockets!
Cats- warm, soft, cuddly... although our current cat is making me crazy right now. We were gone for 12 days and even though SIL/LittleGuy came over each day, the kitty missed us- and he is SO needy right now, even though we've been back for 2 weeks.

Chocolate bars, bunnies, chocolate covered Oreos, just about anything made by Daffins, our local chocolate company. They are delicious! The only thing I don't like are chocolates with cream centers.

Making chocolate candy for my kids. Always enjoyed making the treats for their baskets and stockings. DS shared a memory with me last year about those bunnies and I discovered that he never knew that I made all that myself.

Happy Snowy Saturday

I do love my chocolate, but I don’t buy it much to prevent me from eating a lot of it.

#1 - 85% DARK CHOCOLATE - I enjoy my daily piece after dinner. My favorite is from Aldi.

#2 - DILLY BARS FROM DQ - They have a chocolate coating that I enjoy, and the bar is small so I get just enough ice cream and chocolate to satisfy me without an extreme amount of calories.

#3 - CHOCOLATE CHEX CEREAL - I love this and it turns my milk chocolaty too. In my effort to reduce my sugar after Christmas, I’m mixing it with plain rice Chex to have 1/2 the sugar from it. Not as good, but that’s ok.

CHOCOLATE...I could sing it's praises for days and days.

When I started reading this post, I was preparing a mug of hot chocolate for myself using the stocking stuffer from DH, Charbonnel et Walker, Chocolat Charbonnel flakes. I recently discovered Kingsbridge Milk Chocolate Flakes which are sweeter. Both are made in the UK. I find when I combine the two, I get the perfect hot chocolate.

Genetically, I am what is known as a Chocoholic. I inherited those genes from my Mother and Maternal Grandmother...who knows how far this goes back. My Brother was also a Chocoholic, as is my Daughter. In my childhood, every birthday cake was double chocolate with homemade chocolate whipped cream. Dessert was often chocolate pudding. Hot chocolate was made on the stove with milk and Hershey's cocoa.

My favorite coffee is Dunkin Donuts Midnight which has notes of chocolate.

I still have chocolate cake for every birthday as does my Daughter. These days, we use chocolate frosting instead of chocolate whipped cream. Brownies with
Ghirardelli 60% cacao chocolate chips are my favorite. We used to make them with No Pudge Brownie Mix and Stonyfield Farm chocolate yogurt. I can no longer find either of those products anywhere. During the pandemic, they disappeared from grocery store shelves, and I would order online. Now they are just GONE. Friendlies Forbidden Chocolate is my favorite ice cream in the US. However, Choklad Glas in Sweden is the BEST chocolate ice cream I have ever had even beating out Haagan Das. Speaking of Sweden, their chocolate bars are unmatched in the US. When I can't get my hands on those, I do enjoy Sees chocolate candy, especially their dark chocolate butter cream or truffles. Tony's Chocolonely bars are ethically sourced and definitely a go-to for me.

I don't ever add nuts or other ingredients to my chocolate as I don't want to take away from the pure ecstasy of chocolate flavor.

I am thankful for all forms of chocolate. If I can't get the good stuff, a bag of M&M's will do.
