Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Wednesday Morning Folks

#1 - LOCATION - It’s at the end of a dead end street. We have so much privacy, it’s great! We can sit on our front porch without anyone knowing - it’s great! A wonderful & quiet place to read.

#2 - ITS A QUAD LEVEL HOUSE - I always wanted a quad level house. It’s starting to be difficult for me, with my bad knees that need replacing and my MIL & Dad with mobility issues. When you’re on the main level you have to use stairs to use a bathroom, which is why my MIL & Dad struggle in this house. Sadly, not sure how many more holidays they’ll be able to join us because of it. We’ll need to start going to them.

#3 - MEDIUM OAK CABINETS, BANNISTERS, MANTEL AND OTHER WOODWORK - I love medium oak. It’s not in style anymore or trendy, but I don’t care - I love it! Medium Oak is such a warm and homey wood. I don’t understand why it gets such a bad rap :confused3

1. Laundry room -- no more hanging clothes on a clothesline outside;
2. Construction -- we were able to add items to our home when we built it -- banisters on both side of the stairs, built with 2x6's instead of 2x4's, added insulation, grab bars in the bathrooms, converted one of the garage spaces to a bedroom and bath, etc.
3. Location -- I like that we are not in the middle of town.

1. Old, so built to last with local timber.
2. Family property, we are 3rd generation to live here.
3. Location, lots of space, fresh air, vegetation and wildlife - PEACEFUL.
4. Big rooms and windows for lots of light.
5. Wraparound porch.

I just feel blessed when I am home. It's old, needs a lot of work and money, and not designed for modern living, but I LOVE IT!

Dear Slo, I also prefer honey colored wood. It's comforting and warmer!

God willing when I go home soon, I will just be thrilled and so deeply thankful.

Location is convenient.

Pictures of happy memories and God willing new photos to come

Location - We specifically moved to be in this town and school district, but it's been so much more. This house made for an easy bike ride to the elementary school and middle school in our early years. While a blessing and a curse, we wanted lots of trees and we got them. We're also not right on a greenbelt, so we can hear the wildlife and get a lot of bird traffic, but don't have the bigger and/or scarier things in our yard.

Granite - I really wanted a kitchen with a granite in the blue family. It was one of the things we were budgeting for in home renovations. In the pictures, the granite in this house looked gray, but in person...after turning on the lights...we discovered that it's full of iridescent blue chunks. It was like finding treasure!

Nooks and crannies - Our contractor that did our bathrooms suspects our home was the model back when it was built in the early 70s. We have all kinds of little features that he never saw in any of the many homes he worked on in our neighborhood. We have lots of random little cubbies and secondary entries that make for interesting storage options and access. When we first moved in, it was almost Harry Potter-like for the kids...with a big doored off area under our stairs and random cubbies.
