Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Happy October to all. Very happy October birthday prayers to all of you celebrating your special day this new month.

I am deeply praying that I will always remember today as a huge positive turning about in my recovery and future.

I do not celebrate traditional Halloween and am not a fan of it. I have participated in years past in Trunk or Treat at church. God willing in the future, I wouls enjoy being a part of a faith based church fall event.

My beloved late grandma went to Heaven by my faith belief to be with my grandpa, Champ, and above all else, God, 20 years ago today. She was a feisty and fiercely loyal lady who loved all blessed ro know her. She truly made a life changing and saving difference to me. Reminder, dear friends, to tell those who you care about and love how much they mean to you today, please don't wait! Extra hug to each of you.

1. Halloween decorations- I need to make some time to do ours. I was able to pick up some new lights and webbing on discount yesterday.

2. Halloween baking shows- I love seeing all of the fun sweet and savory ideas. I really want to buy this skull pan so I can make little skull pizza and stuffed cherry cheesecake bites (separate batches, of course). Maybe I’ll even do a yummy mummy this year.

3. Costumes- I haven’t dressed up in a while but I love kid and adults dressing up…especially the super creative ones.

Evening all,

Happy October birthdays to Slo and PollyannaMom :bday: 🥳

October is a month I'm usually fairly indifferent about as it tends to be one of those months where nothing much happens. No birthdays, no events and Halloween over here isn't a big thing like it is in the States (I wish it was!), however these always make October much better:

1. Pumpkin spice - love a pumpkin spice latte or anything pumpkin spice flavour or scented.

2. Knitwear & cosy clothes - I don't like being cold, but I do like being able to wear my cosy sweaters, knits and leggings without being too hot or having to wear a million layers & winter stuff on top.

3. Horror films - horrors are my go to films to watch any time of year, but i particularly love going overboard on them at this time of year with it being Halloween.

This time last year I was in WDW, so this October is certainly a comedown!

Making and serving my apple cranberry crumble pie
That sounds DELICIOUS! You just reminded me that I froze several containers of homemade cranberry sauce from last year. It's thick enough that I could turn it into some kind of pie. Mine is pretty orange forward, but I think it could still pair well with apple. Thanks for the idea!

I like a bit of tart sweet. Use granny smith apples thinly sliced with cranberries. The homemade cranberry sauce should work nicely! Save a slice for me!!!

Happy 54th Birthday to Magic Kingdom (and WDW’s Opening Day anniversary) and Happy 43rd Birthday to Epcot!!

I love October!! Baseball playoffs and hockey begins!
Hallmark does very well in our family this month. Lots of birthdays and anniversaries, although sadly not as many as before.
Love the weather and the changing leaves. There is a maple tree outside our house that, when the leaves get deeply red, it actually changes the color of the sunlight that comes in my bedroom window. 🍁

October... sigh. It means winter is right around the corner, which gets harder and harder to take as I get older and older, hahaha. However... things to be grateful for:
>The fall leaves. Nature really puts on a magnificent show here in Maine!
>I get to wear my favorite sweaters again. It's kind-of like greeting old friends I haven't seen in a while, being as they've been put away since April.
>We live pretty far from all of our families, so October is when we start getting serious about planning for Thanksgiving and Christmas travels.

@PollyannaMom, happy birthday month! 🎂

Les, the janitor on my floor at work. He comes in at 4pm, when most people are gone, so very few people know him. He's a single man in his late 40s, I'd guess, who likes to chat/visit. He has leukemia, so he is having medical treatments, complications from medications, etc., but you'd never know it. He shows up, is friendly and polite, and does a great job keeping my labs and the entire two floors of the building (another guy does the other two floors) clean before heading off to the other buildings in which he works. We have had less-than-stellar janitors before, including one who never cleaned the bathrooms. Two bathrooms for hundreds of students every week; I don't have to describe the grossness of that! Les always does a great job and is cheery, which given his workload and health is an amazing thing.

Diane, our department admin assistant. As you all know, it's the "department secretary" that keeps the whole place running. She's the one to contact when a sink is flooding, HR has screwed up your paycheck, classes are over-enrolled and there's no space for students to sit, or you just need an ear, a shoulder, a friend. Couldn't do my job without her!

My husband, who quietly supports my travel lust and independence. There is never a question about where I am going or how I'm paying for it, just "when will you be home?" I have so many friends who have to ask their husband about the plans they want to make (as in, "Sure, let's do breakfast, I'll ask hubby if it's OK" when we are planning on just the 2 of us getting together). I really appreciate his support which often goes unrecognized (or acknowledged as my DH has to work so I have time to myself). I always think that this is how relationships are and am always surprised when friends have to 'get clearance' to go places or spend money without their DH going with them.

Happy Thursday Friends

#1 - OUR PRIESTS - The two priests at my parish do soooo…..much that many people don’t realize. They have very exhausting days, especially now that our parish school is back in session. They are amazing and I’m grateful for them every day.

#2 - WRITERS - We all have our favorite movies and TV shows, and none of them would be good without good writers. I’m always grateful for them.

#3 - ANIMAL CARE ATTENDANTS - These young people at my veterinary office are the best - they are the ones doing all the grunt work - cleaning up after the dogs, watching the dogs during doggy daycare, taking care of the dogs being boarded and more. I’m sure they don’t get paid much, which makes them even more appreciated - they work hard!

ALL the support staff in my building. The custodial and maintenance staff do an excellent job cleaning and maintaining the building and property. Some staff receive less service than others and wonder why. Saying hello, having a conversation, please and thank you go a long way. We are all quality people. No one is better than someone else and it takes all the support staff to make a business or organization run.

All the janitorial, house keeping, custodial and maintenance personnel who keep WDW hotels, parks, and grounds clean, beautiful, and running as smooth as possible with that many people on a daily basis 🤯 all year round, including holidays.

Ditto for the airports! It's all their hard work that keeps me comfortable and allows me to have a relaxing and magical vacation!

The parents that help out - I'll admit that sometimes DD16s travel team feels like organized chaos...mainly because they're growing the organization and her head coach is split between two teams (her two kids). It is what it is, but we have a lot of parents that help out that are often the unsung heroes. Last night, I was helping with some headshots for new girls, but the real magic will happen with the mom who makes our new flyers with them (and my earlier pics) in Canva. She's also been texting frantically with me over the last few days so we can coordinate distribution of new helmet decals. We've got the dads who do GameChanger and Sideline HD, the dads with the crazy camera gear who tether all of that in to our video tied to several platforms...including the one who gifted his wife with StarLink for Mother's Day (not the gift she would have chosen 🤣) so we all could have uninterrupted coverage, and we've got the ones who jump in and help talk to colleges or even practices when official coaches and recruiting managers are spread thin.

Gym Employees - We really only interact with them when checking in, but the reality is they take turns during their shifts cleaning machines, replenishing paper towels, and other thankless jobs that often go unnoticed since we're so engrossed in our workouts.

Green Belt crews - Every now and then I see them, but for the most part, they are out when we're not...making sure our trails stay clear and dangerous trees are removed.

Evening all,

1. Emergency services back office staff - I'm one of these and while emergency responders tend to get recognised, it's rare for us back office/support staff to get recognised despite the fact that we're the ones that keep the wheels on!

2. Janitorial & cleaning staff - agree with everyone who has already mentioned this, for the most part they seem to do a thankless job and they deserve more recognition especially in my office.

3. Customer Facing/Service Staff - anyone who deals with customers or the public on a regular basis and does it incredibly well, pleasantly and politely - it's such a nice experience and they probably don't get enough gratitude for that.
