Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Happy Saturday

#1 - Umbrellas - Especially when I’m taking the puppy outside for potty time

#2 - Umpires - very grateful for them when Katie was playing softball. These people take a lot of verbal abuse.

#3 - Underwear - always grateful for well fitted underwear.

Unions - always a well paying job with great benefits ins and pension plans - grew up with father in one and had ex spouse and one child in Unions having worked in Corporate America myself I would have preferred the Union ymmv but I am grateful as it provided my way of life for decades and it was a huge improvement over previous jobs the person had before
Again ymmv

I’ll second Underware - love it when you find the perfect comfortable underware I like getting some every time it’s on sale you can never have too much !! 🤣🤣

Umbrellas ☔️- love having a tiny umbrella ☂️ I can throw in my purse in case I need it

U-2... not specifically the band but the Joshua Tree album. The cover was framed aways from the village and 100 miles in Amboy but surely they traveled to Palm springs and by doing so passed my childhood wilderness... where indeed...the streets have no names.. gratitude for an anthem/song that defined me...I would put the cassette/CD into the rental cars that my 3 wives had journey with me and when we turned onto the rugged desert road...the marvelous U-2 anthem playing... asking them "would you have a 8 year old walk this road every day?"... hence my angst and fascination with Disneyland

Upper register- This is the strongest and most fun part of my singing voice. Those high notes are like the ultimate primal scream therapy cathartic release.

Unusual, Unique, Uncommon & Unconventional- I really appreciate things that are out of the ordinary that challenge the status quo or show a person’s individual boldness and spirit. Why be common?

Ugly sweaters- We are well past sweater weather but I love a bold and bright ugly sweater.

Aw Amen to rooting for the underdog, dear PollyannaMom. Great answer. Years ago I directed and taught preschool in a small town. I remember for awhile all the kids wanted to be pushed, "underdog," style on the swings. I think that meant for the adult to run either alongside or under the swing just after pushing it high up. Those same kids today are close to 30! I can still picture some of them at 3 and 4. I pray they are healthy and happy adults :)

Under the Sea, the ride and the song. I remember taking my daughter to see the movie in the theater when it first came out. It was her first movie theater experience. When that song was done I just said, wow! So glad she grew up in the 2nd golden age of Disney movies.

Up: one of my favorite movies, although when my DH and I watch it, he needs to skip the montage scenes. I think it got harder for him to watch after I had cancer.

Ukelele: love the musician Iz and his version of Somwhere Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World. The instrument also reminds me of our stays at the Polynesian in the early 90’s.

Today is not only Easter, but Orthodox Easter as well. (They usually fall on separate dates, but once in a while, they coincide.)

So today's topic (Sun, 4/20) is 3 things you're grateful for about the holiday, or 3 coincidences you have been grateful for - whichever you're more comfortable with.

🌸✝️ Good Easter Morning! ✝️🌸

#1 - He Is Risen! - I’m grateful that our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, rose today which marks his triumph over death and the promise of eternal life.

#2 - My Parish - I’m grateful that I have a wonderful Parish, which makes the holidays even more wonderful

#3 - DD21 Is Home - I’m very grateful that my baby is home this year to celebrate Easter with us.

The Easter Basket scavenger hunt I used to do for my kids when they were little you see we had a cat that was notorious for taking things and eating anything so I couldn’t leave out the Easter baskets so I came up with an idea that I would have a scavenger hunt it wasn’t me it was the Easter bunny but the kids would have to go on a scavenger hunt to find their Easter baskets because I had to put them someplace the cat wouldn’t find them so I came up with the idea for a scavenger hunt so they may be in the dryer or they may be in a closet somewhere I came up with a different place every year and then gave clues through the house and they were going to scavenger hunt to find their Easter baskets it was great fun and they looked forward to it every year that cat lived a very long life I have very fond memories of this

Easter egg hunt I never did one outside I always did it inside the house the cat same one loved Easter eggs so it got to be quite fun for the kids to find the Easter eggs because the cat may have taken some after I hid them and hid them himself so some we may not have found until we did spring cleaning🤣🤣🤣🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ or it could be like Halloween and an Easter egg would pop up🤣🤣🤣 he really enjoyed those plastic eggs he was constantly stealing those

And I enjoyed the years of watching the DISNEY Easter parade we would all be having cinnamon rolls and sit down and watch the Easter parade it was a traditional in our house I’m really sad they don’t do that anymore

Amen dear Slo! Jesus our Lord and Savior is risen indeed! I look forward to watching worship later. God willing next year, I will be able to attend an Easter Sunrise service in person and with my dad. For me, that early dawn worship is just beautiful. I prefer quiet, more reverant hymns and choir anthems which this service features. Plus, to watch the sun rise as all around me and within my own heart. Jesus, God's Son, rises anew, is so precious and healing.

God willing it will be fun to make dad an Easter basket next year.

Dad and I God willing next year will have fun participating in the Eggs-travaganza at Disneyland.

I have only experienced Easter from the secular side but it’s still afforded me a number of cherished memories and traditions.

1. The Easter Egg Hunt- It was a huge treat when I was a kid, even the years when it rained and we hunted inside. I loved when our own children were old enough to hunt and I got to play Easter Bunny in the predawn hours.
*Pro Tip- my grandparents used to hide real hard boiled eggs. Without fail, if it was raining and we hunted inside, one was always forgotten and would remain hidden until its stench revealed its location. So make sure you count your eggs if you’re working with real ones.

2. My paternal grandmother’s homemade Easter candies- Our baskets were always filled with her homemade peanut butter and marshmallow eggs, but the highlight was everyone’s personal eggs. Each of us got a huge egg. It had sort of a dense fondant filling and was covered in thick chocolate. Each was piped with pastel decorations of royal icing and your name was written in script in the center in white icing. They were so big that my mom would actually slice me a piece of egg for dessert. They lasted at least a week.

3. Dyeing eggs- I even have fond memories of dying with the Paas stuff that never came out as vibrant as I hoped. When my kids got a little older and could be trusted, we used higher grade food coloring, luster dusts and edible glitters to make pretty eggs.

As Juliet told Romeo.."swear not by the ever changing moon"...so grateful am I that Easter has no calendar 🗓️ 🗓️ number... early March sunrise 🌄 🌄 services where in dark morning... today...the sun was already above Gila mountains and tomorrow is 4/21 🌎 🌎 🌎 day... which means today...

Paas. Such fun memories when organizing estates to liquidate when opening the silverware drawer and finding those thins wire loops with tiny handles. Dyeing eggs was the one communal activity I enjoyed with my sisters... arguing over the decals and the length of time for egg soaking in the bowl

The M&Ms that gathered at the bottom of my Easter basket when I was a kid. My mom knew I didn’t like jelly beans, so I always got extra M&Ms. It was always so easy to guess her hiding places also. :)

Singing in church choir all through Holy Week.

Just like at Christmas, I made lasagna, my mom made a ham, and my dad made the antipasto.
