Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Sesame Street- I loved it so much as a kid. We even used to get all of the albums from the library when I was a kid. I was so disappointed with the modern changes when my girls were little that I purchased the bulk of the Old School Sesame Street dvds. DD18s favorite is Cookie Monster and DD15 loves Ernie (like me).

Phineas and Ferb- This was one of the few kid shows that we all loved. It was written with enough embedded humor and older references that we all could sit down and be entertained. Loved how imaginative and creative it all was.

Saturday morning programming- From the Super Friends, Smurfs, and Thundaar the Barbarian to the things in between like Schoolhouse Rock and I Hanker for a Hunk of Cheese…really fond memories.

Lots of other great honorable mentions…321 Contact, Electric Company, Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Roger’s, The Jetsons (the old original ones), other classic cartoons that used to run regularly, The Magic Garden, Great Space Coaster, and Uncle Al from our Cincinnati years. I even loved coming home from school and having sitcom reruns deemed kid friendly for the after school audience.

And this one wasn't a kids' show, but is connected to a memory - my grandma used to come over on Friday nights to watch Dallas with my mom, and she used to bring stuff to make English muffin pizzas with us.
These types of memories are the best. Something so simply at the time and who could have guessed it would have such an impact.
DD26’s Childhood is Bear in the Big Blue House - I have such wonderful warm & fuzzy memories of us watching this together.

#3 - DD21’s Childhood is Dora the Explorer - OMGosh….she loved Dora so much. I have great memories more of reading her Dora books than watching the show wit her.
A couple of favs of my DD's. Good stuff right there.

For me it was the Saturday morning cartoons like Bugs Bunny, Daffy duck etc.
Then on Sunday nights, The Wonderful World of Disney (I always hoped for the cartoons) along with Marlin Perkins and the Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom adventures.

Good Monday Morning!

#1 - Our Veterans - thank you to all of them everywhere :thanks:

#2 - Life - every day I thank God for giving us the gift of another day

#3 - Our Puppy Otis - even on the days he drives me crazy , like this morning :faint:

#4 - A Beautiful Autumn - We are having an incredible Autumn here in Chicago land area

#5 - Countless Blessings (the ones you can’t see, like oxygen) - To many to mention. I thank God every morning for them.

#6 - DD21 Having Less Pain - Every day my daughter is having less pain from her surgery, which I’m very grateful for. It’s so hard knowing your daughter is struggling with pain and you’re far away and can’t help her. I’m so proud of her with how she’s managing everything with her left hand while having her right arm in an immobilizer.

#7 - Christmas Tree #1 Is Up - I’m glad I had a day yesterday to put up our Christmas tree. I normally don’t put it up this early, but I moved it to a new spot and I needed to see if would fit, because if it didn’t, we were going to buy a new tree. Since it does fit, I figured I may as well decorate it, so that task is done (we cut the lights out of both are big trees years ago because sections stopped working, so putting up the trees now, takes a lot of time - about five hours for each tree). I’m very glad that that tree is done and I’ll do tree #2 this weekend.

#8 - Dry Mornings - I’m always grateful when I don’t have to wake up and take the puppy out in the rain.

#9 - Nice Clothes - When I say nice clothes, I mean clothes that are in good condition. I have no interest in namebrand clothes, I don’t care much about that - I just like clothes that are nice and in good condition.

#10 - A DD That Shares My Love Of Disney - I’m so grateful that DD21 shares my love of Disney with me, it’s like a dad and his son that share love of baseball. Her and I are always sharing TikToks and reels on Instagram about different things that are going on at the parks. Her and I have a blast together and I can hardly wait for our next trip in March. DH will be going with us this trip so I hope he can keep up with us - LOL!

#11 - My Home - I loved our home the minute I stepped foot in it, and 20 years later, I’m still grateful for it every single day.

Nice touch...11 points of gratitude on 11/11. ☺️

1. Since it is Veteran's Day, I'll start by taking another opportunity be grateful for all that have served to protect our freedoms.
2. My health- While it's certainly not perfect, I'm here. I wasn't sure I would be able to say that 3 years ago.
3. Jobs- I'm always grateful that DH and I are gainfully employed.
4. My vehicle- I don't want to jinx anything, but I'm grateful for the many miles she's taken us and kept us safe.
5. Family- I'm grateful for the good relationships that I have with mine and any time we get to spend with each other. We don't spend much time with DH's family and they keep deepening the divide, but I'm still grateful for at least some of them as we wouldn't have DH without them.
6. Technology- It's sort of a blessing and a curse, but there are many things it gives us that are wonderful. From my ability to work from home to watching DD16 play in Arizona while I stayed home. Oh, and FaceTime! It's not like being with someone in person, but it's still better than a conventional phone call.
7. The essentials - We so often take for granted a roof over our head, clean water, food, etc. While you often think about this with people living in poverty, I look over to my neighbor's storm damaged home and am reminded on a daily basis that all it takes is a storm to take that away. Maybe not for good, but it's been 4 months since their home was hit by three trees and while a lot of work has happened, they still are displaced.
8. Turkey Sales/Chest Freezer- Prices haven't dropped to traditional lows just yet, but I did buy my first turkey yesterday. It's great to get a deal on the Thanksgiving turkey, but it's nice to have the space and prices to stock up on several so we can have turkey several times a year for a reasonable price...especially considering the leftovers can feed us for the better part of a week.
9. The Community area on the DIS- We wouldn't be sharing these 11 things if it weren't for the DIS.
10. Animals/Nature- While it was my own domestic pet that got me thinking about it, I'm really grateful for all of the wild spots in nature and the animals that call it home.
11. Sort of a blending with a previous recent topic, but the number 11 immediately made me think of this classic Sesame Street clip. So, I guess it's gratitude for the number 11 bringing back a fond memory...something I haven't thought of or seen in ages.

  • My family
  • My neighborhood
  • Pets - mine and other people's
  • Puzzles
  • The super nice tech at my yearly mammogram
  • Getting lunch out
  • Thanksgiving decorations
  • Coffee
  • Recipes from my childhood
  • Re-watching old shows
  • GPS

I'm grateful for books! - I know many people don't enjoy reading, so I want books to get more love 📚💕

Same goes for math. It was one of my favorite classes in school, even though it was many others' least favorite. I liked that you got the answer and then it was done. - You didn't have to worry if you could keep making it better like an essay.

I'm grateful for bats. - Many people are scared of them, but t think they're cute. Plus, they eat bugs!

Good Tuesday Morning Friends

These are things that i love and feel they don’t get enough love from others….

#1 - Silence - So many think silence is boring. I love silence and being alone in my thoughts - gives me time to think and reflect without distractions,

#2 - Christmas Commercials - Many complain about them, especially before Thanksgiving. I love them because they are such a nice and refreshing change - they’re happy, bright and joyful.

#3 - Exercising - I hear over and over again from so many, and my DH is one of them, that they don’t like working out. I tell people all the time, you don’t need to go to the gym for 2 hours at a time like I do, to get a good workout. Just take a short brisk walk for 15-30 minutes to get some steps in your day or get an inexpensive gym membership at somewhere like Planet Fitness and pop in there, get on a treadmill for a 1/2 hour to get some steps In - you don’t need to break a sweat and you don’t need fancy exercise clothes. Something is always better than nothing.

Shows from my childhood -

1. My Roger's Neighborhood
2. Zoom
3. Eight is Enough

11 things -

1. Family & Friends
2. Vacations
3. My job
4. My car
5. Living in a small town
6. Bargain shopping
7. My church
8. My laptop
9. My curly hair
10. Post it notes
11. Playing the piano

Things that don't get enough love -

1. I second math - It was always my favorite subject and most people hate it!

2. I'll go with one from yesterday - living in a small town - I love seeing people everyday that I know - every time we eat at a local restaurant, go to the local grocery store, etc, I always know I'll see someone to chat with. But I know that I lot of people don't (even people who live in small towns lol)

3. This kind of goes with math, but budgeting. I love tracking what we spend and I know most people don't. I gives me such peace knowing where our money goes and how much I think we'll need in the future.

A good vacuum- Yes, I hate cleaning and probably don't do it as often as some, but it's really gratifying using the vacuum and seeing all of the dog fur that winds up in the canister. Even the little robot gets a shout out. I hate vacuuming hard floors and often can't see all of the fur and dirt, but sure enough, it finds it and it's little bin is always full when I run it.

Tires- We have spent so much time talking about our respective vehicles and the various perks and extras. We know the importance of the wheel, but we rarely think about our tires until we have to buy new ones, see someone with a flat on the side of the road, or have our pressure monitor go off on a cold day. So, just a normal day of properly functioning tires is a real source of gratitude.

Electricity/Internet Connectivity- I think we all are grateful for these things, but you don't realize how much you truly depend on them until things go out. I remember when I first saw this meme and thought of my kids, but I'm no better.

Love the song in It’s A Small World :)

Love classical music and even some more “modern” composers.

Love clutter. Most people like things neat. I love looking around my house and seeing my daughter’s and my DGD’s artwork everywhere, posters and photos, all my souvenirs, books, toys, and piles of papers. :)

I'm in Disney World right now on a solo trip and I've run into many kind people:
>The folks who've offered me their seat on the bus, so I don't have to stand;
>The families who've chatted with me while waiting in line, riding the skyliner and busses, sharing tables, etc.
>Just random, little things, like letting solo-me get on an attraction or bus ahead of them and their several children (and stroller), kind cast members at the resort who schlepped my suitcase and groceries for me or who drove over to package pick-up early because she knew I was anxious, having no means of communication (left my charger at home; Amazon came thru, but so did the CM who drove over to the distribution area rather than make me wait all day- almost 3 days without internet!).

It's made me see how kind and friendly people really can be!
And there's my alarm, time to get up and head for Animal Kingdom!

Happy HUMP Day!

#1 - Compliments - I lector at my church, and I’ve been doing this for 17 years now. I take it very seriously, and when a parishioner stops me and tells me they enjoy it when I lector, that is a huge compliment. Not because I like the attention, but because my reading is helping someone stay engaged in the Mass and listening to what I’m reading. Their feedback means a lot to me and it’s kind of them to give it.

#2 -When Someone Holds The Door - I really do appreciate this act of kindness and I always do it for others too.

#3 - When My DH Surprises Me With A Slushie - This act of kindness always makes me smile. He doesn’t do it often, because he knows I don’t like the empty calories, but when he does do it on a hot summer day, I’m always very grateful.
