Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Work - The longer I'm part of the workforce, the more the internet becomes a necessary tool. The internet is a big part of why I can commute across the hall vs. spending 75-90+ minutes each way in traffic.

Travel - Remember when you needed to work with a travel agent, use chunky travel books, and make a ton of phone calls? Yeah, I don't miss it. I do still sometimes work with an agent for cruises or big tours, but I prefer the control and have found that I'm much better at deals than the pros.

Streaming - I love being able to have shows and movies at my fingertips. I love that it's all so portable. I don't miss having to mess around with DVDs and VHS tapes. I love that even our "cable" is a streaming service. I love being able to binge an old show without having to buy a set. I love not having to tune in exactly at a certain time to see something.

Internet . . .

The DIS, of course. I love chatting with everyone about anything and everything, especially Disney

Shopping, especially Christmas shopping. I used to spend weeks wandering stores to do my Christmas shopping. Now it takes an hour or two and it’s all delivered right to my house. Amazing!

Current events. Whether it’s the news or the weather, knowing I can go online and be up to date in a few minutes is amazing.

The DIS, clearly, and all of you!

Internet banking/online payments. I always wrote checks for everything until the pandemic. Mail slowed down, my bills were late, fees were assessed, etc., so now I do most of my bill paying online. We get paid on the last day of the month, so the next morning I sit down and schedule all my bill payments (mostly credit cards).

Travel planning- I love to discover things about new and exciting places, to score awesome airfare or rental car deals, check out and reserve hotel rooms, etc. The internet makes it all possible!

Facebook- I know social media can be awful, but I am glad I'm on FB. I am only FB friends with folks I know in real life, and I try to keep my reading and responding "respectful." I don't do any other social media, and I don't have a cell/smart phone, so FB- and messenger in particular- help me stay in touch with family and friends.

Being able to “attend” family events like baby naming ceremonies, and even funerals, when we are unable to be there in person is a gift.

Being able to look up anything! I especially love looking up an actor on IMDB whose face or voice is familiar and seeing where I know them from. And also, at my age, being able to look things up is very helpful when my memory fails me.

The internet became a lifeline in many ways during the pandemic, from being able to finally get toilet paper or paper towels delivered to my house when the stores were out, to my daughter being home with our granddaughter, who we couldn’t go visit in the early months of the pandemic, taking so many photos and videos and sharing them in an iCloud album.

Not candy corn to eat - but it’s great to decorate with !!!

Orange - pumpkins - awesome fall deco I’m not a person who puts Christmas up until December so I like decorating for fall with lots of pumpkins & mums

Yellow - nice happy color - my bedroom walls are painted a shade of yellow / orange that to me is so calming absolutely love the color

White - Just not a fan as I can’t keep white things white for very long - love the look of nice white towels but would never do it as I know my towels would never stay white for very long so I appreciate them from afar !! I do have 4 white sweaters and rarely wear them - oh I like them a lot but every time I wear one I notoriously end up with a drop of coffee on it or something else my mother was firm on never buying me anything white when I was a kid

Happy Wednesday!

As a kid I loved candy corn especially the pumpkin-shaped variety. I thought they tasted better (probably because they were bigger and had more sugar) than the regular cone candy corn.

Yellow is indeed a happy, positive color. I'm so grateful for God's I know in His time I will be able to get outside normally to enjoy it.

Orange is the color of the small pot we daily use to heat up Campbell's Chicken Broth in. Dad and I are so graced to be able to enjoy this lunch appetizer with God together.

White will always bring joy to my heart to remember my beloved dog Champ. He was a mostly white wire hair fox terrier. One of his favorite treats was also white, popcorn!

Yellow - I think it's the best highlighter color (both physical marker style and digital). It pops and you can see the writing without it getting washed out like often happens with other colors. I love all of the other colors, but the yellow does help job-wise.

Orange - DD15s (mainly) orange Balega socks were a foot saver. I got her a pair back when she was running track because they are my favorite running sock. She brought hers with her to CA over the summer. She let me borrow them for Disneyland. I couldn't wear regular shoes and my cushy Oofos recovery flip flops wound up giving me awful blisters on top of everything with my ankle. My ankle tolerated the socks and they worked with my Crocs to help give me some added cushion and protection. They made days 2 and 3 in the parks possible.

White - The 2012 Nissan Pathfinder was the last model year where it was on a truck frame (same as the Titan and Armada). My first Pathy was white. One early morning in September of 2013, we surprised the girls with a trip to WDW for Halloween festivities (mini school break for teacher workshops) and got on the road to the airport just before 6am. While we were completely stopped at a red light about 1.5 miles from home, waiting to get on the highway, a vehicle estimated to be traveling around 75mph slammed into us. The force of impact was so great that it forced me into the F150 pickup in front of me. We had some bumps and bruises along with some whiplash that would eventually surface, but we walked away. My white Pathy didn't look completely horrible (still totaled, but not an OMG and not a bit of broken glass or cabin damage) and the pickup was fine. The Honda SUV that hit us was flattened in the front, including some of the front seat portion of the cabin. The emergency crews needed to extract the driver and cart her off in an ambulance. Of course, when she later came to and was stabilized, she also tried to blame me even though I'd been stopped at the red light, squarely in my lane, for well over a minute. I'm not sure it mattered since she didn't own the vehicle and the guy who did was underinsured. In any event, all of the emergency personnel and police on the scene felt it was the vehicle that saved our lives. Even the guy at the collision center gave me a big hug and gave me this whole lecture on truck frames saving lives. We actually ended up rebooking our flight and going to Disney later on that day. It was not my favorite trip, but definitely memorable. Insurance was a nightmare, but after a month and a half, I eventually was able to get a payout and find another 2012 Pathy (different color and trim, but same body/frame). I'm no longer in a truck frame (BOF) SUV (there aren't many left), but it's part of why I like that the kids drive a full sized pickup.

Yellow- rubber duckies. DD had a whole collection of them over the years, all dressed differently, depending on her interests at the time. She kept them in a line on her bureau, and it was so cheery to see. They are still around here, in a box, somewhere!

Orange- Kraft dinner. Mac and cheese is my favorite food, and my homemade version tops the list, but Kraft dinner is a reliable standby. It's quick and easy to make, so works in a pinch, and everyone at my house eats it. Is it something we eat all the time? Nope, the adults might make a box every 3-4 months, usually on a dreary, rainy, cold Saturday afternoon. The resident 8 year old would eat it daily, if we let him (which we don't). Truth? I'd probably eat it daily, too!

White- Q-tips. Handy for so many things besides cleaning my ears! The store brands don't cut it, I want the original Q-tips in my house!

It went smooth. She’s home now and resting. She’ll be in an immobilizer for 6 weeks. The shoulder was worse than originally thought, so it’s good she decided to have the surgery.

Prayers dear Slo

Dear Leebee for most of my like Kraft Mac and Cheese was my very favorite food. Several years ago the cheese was made different and that changed. I don't heavier foods anymore but Kraft mac and cheese will always have a place in my heart. It was often a comfort standby as well through a not always safe or positive childhood. I do eat Kraft singles daily today which are orange.

My current car is white. God willing one day I will be able to drive it again.

Yellow: autumn leaves, especially when they are lit by the sunset

Orange: the decorations in MK this time of year, especially the pumpkin ones

White: this is a tie between the sports cream I use every night on my back and the whipped cream that I have started to add to my iced coffee. It is lower in sugar than I thought and makes me feel lie I am really treating myself. And don’t worry, I never get them confused.

I enjoy seeing the kids all dressed up in their outfits as my kids are grown and I won’t be getting grandkids so I enjoy seeing the kids and it’s a thing here to tell jokes for your candy so I funny the jokes

I enjoy seeing everyone’s yard deco - scary or cute it’s all really nice

Most of all I like getting the candy out if my house so I’ll stop eating it !!! Very grateful it will be gone tonight - come 8:30 PM one lucky kid is getting whatever I have left to take home to their house !!!
