Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Happy Tuesday Everyone

Red is my favorite color, but I don’t have many red items - weird I know.

#1 - Christmas Sweaters & Sweatshirts - I love wearing them all Christmas season. If I can buy them in red, I always will.

#2 - Homemade Christmas Ornament - I have a red homemade Christmas ornament that my mom made before I was born. It’s my favorite ornament on the tree, and I put it front and center every year. When I moved out, I didn’t ask for much, but I did ask for this ornament, and my mom was flattered and happily gave it to me.

#3 - Red Chair - My Front Room is all warm, white and red. The couch and loveseat are both a warm white with red accent and pillows. The curtains are red. The walls are a warm white and I have an awesome red chair that I love. Sadly this chair is fading after 20 years and now we will need to reupholster it. I don’t want to get rid of it because it fits perfectly in the spot it’s in.

Talking about vehicles 🚗/ tell you your tire pressure it tells you when you need an oil change it still has idiot lights but it tells you what’s wrong with the big red warning ‼️ You have GPS now so you can get lost with GPS it’ll talk to you and tell you where to go and then tell you to redirect when you get lost because it tells you five seconds before you need to know that you need take that turn 🤣🤣🤣 it warned you on cars are around you when you’re driving it warned you when anyone’s around you when you’re backing up my car will even stop if anything around it when I’m backing up in my car will freak out if I’m about to hit something even if I’m not about to hit something and it thinks I’m about to hit something I really like these features in cars and I’m very grateful for them

All of this!!!!

We recently had a couple of "cold" days and of course my tire gauge went off. While I hate going to put air in my tires, I was so happy to see the specific tires that were the offenders and their respective current pressure readings. Ironically, the service indicator for an oil change had also recently gone off. While I have satellite navigation on my vehicle (great for areas with no cell service), I am all about using Apple Car Play and a GPS navigation app. The kids will likely never understand the "joys" of sitting there trying to read a big unfolded map or travel atlas and trying to figure out which way to go.

Metallic Yellow Gold, Yellow, Orange, and various shades of Blue are my favorites, but I think Metallic Yellow Gold beats them all.

Jewelry- While there are certainly things I prefer in white or rose, I love yellow gold. It's pretty, I love how my birthstone looks when set in yellow gold, there are some spectacular museum pieces out there, and it just feels like pirate's treasure whenever going through personal pieces.

Edible Luster Dust- While all of the dusts are pretty awesome, I'm particularly fond of being able to jazz up cake decor with the stuff. I think the first time I used it was for DD18s Cinderella's slipper pillow cake and a 4th of July test cake. I used it on the tassels and corded trim for the pillow and to edge the stars and some other details on the holiday cake. I was floored by how well the stuff works.

Gold Paint Pens- I remember getting my first big box of Crayola Crayons with the metallic shades. I was so disappointed at how flat it looked when coloring on paper. Then came paint pens and I could suddenly draw in what looked like liquid gold. Of course, they weren't cheap and they became a drawing treat, but they were so awesome.

Pink -

A bright pink jacket I have that's just the right weight

Hostess "Snowballs"

Peppermint ice cream
I do love peppermint stick ice cream! It's my favorite flavor, but the grocery stores only carry it during the holidays. Probably just as well; I think I could eat the entire carton in one sitting!!

I think purple is my favorite color right now...
Lilacs
A deep purple merlot (or other wine... not terribly picky!)
My lavender hoodie (from York Beach Beer Co.)

It’s H U M P Day

#1 - Mammoth Crocs - I love love love love love my Mammoth Crocs. These saved my feet from freezing on cold softball days. The little job I do on Thursdays, at my friends business, is where I wear them now because it’s freezing in there in the winter. On some days, when I get there, it’s only 40 degrees inside and the heat only gets turned up to 55 degrees - so cold 🥶

#2 - Birkenstock Sandals - After I tore my plantar fascia, and had to have foot surgery, I threw away every pair of flip-flops and replaced them with Birkenstocks. I also have a pair of indoor Birkenstocks that I wear around the house. I also slowly replaced my daughter’s sandals and flip-flops with Birkenstocks. They are expensive, but because they are good for your feet I’m OK with paying the price for them.

#3 - New Balance Running Shoes - A local store that specializes in running, got me started with New Balance a few years ago. I never thought I would be a New Balance person (I was wearing Asics), but the employees there are very trained in fitting shoes and they introduced me to New Balance. I go through shoes pretty quick, usually I have to get a new pair of shoes every year because of how much I walk and work out in them. So I’m grateful for the shoes and I’m grateful for the employee that got me started with them.

YAY SHOES!!!!! I love shoes and I am so happy to announce that after 4 months, I was finally able to start wearing some shoes with a back. Last week, I was able to wear my New Balance trail runners and two different pairs of Brooks joggers. I also tried my white platform Pumas...but I could only wear them with socks and I prefer sock free for those. I actually got in a few walks last week. Nothing over 2 miles, but it's a start.

So, shoe gratitude!

Timberland Boots - These were the snow boots of choice when I was in college. They kept me dry and they had enough traction to keep me from slipping around. I went for a men's model that had a higher shaft, so I could go out into slightly deeper snow. I was in Syracuse for the city's snowiest year on record (officially 207.9" for the city, but the campus almost always receives more).

Brooks Glycerin - This is my running/walking shoe of choice. I have tried other Brooks models (I did like the Levitate for shorter distances- but it was discontinued) and nothing else works for me like the Glycerin. I've been fitted a few times by run shops and tried many brands/models on my own, but this one is the winner...even though a few model years have been duds. Granted, good socks are part of the equation with distance work, but the shoes are key.

Open Back Shoes - You don't realize how few comfortable options there are until you can't wear a shoe with a back. I came really close to dropping more money than I'd like on some shoes from The Walking Company, but held off. Glad I did. Mind you, I never found anything that would have been good (for me) for all of that walking we did at Disneyland. Still, here's a shout out to my Birkenstocks (Arizona, Boston, and Arizona EVA), Oofos recovery flip flops, Crocs clogs, and UGG coquettes.

I had two pairs of shoes when I was a kid that I still remember to this day that I was over the moon so happy to get
A white pair of boots I remember this in the 70s so they were like white gogo boots shiny I was just over the moon so happy to get those boots
I got a pair of smiley face sneakers the minute I laid eyes on them I fell in love😊😊😊😊😊😊 I begged and begged for those and was so happy to get a pair of eventually!! Again this is back in the 70s

I love my Brooks sneakers I like a nice colorful sneaker and I can get them with Brooks but I am at an age where I take comfort over anything and to me Brooks are like walking barefoot❤️❤️

Flip-flops you can tell me all the live long days how bad they are for your feet and I’ll be like OK but I still have a lifelong love for flip-flops I don’t buy the cheap ones don’t buy the top dollar ones either I get down the road middle but I love my flip-flops I wear them right up until the first ice or snow and then once that’s gone I’ll put them back on 🤣🤣🤣 I really hate wearing shoes
Pair of boots and I don’t mean my dressy boots I mean like hiking boots I can get some good traction with so I can take the dog outside in the winter and not fall break and break a bone !! I get a new pair of about every two years

Short dressy boots - I have extremely narrow feet I can’t wear a slip on shoes I walk right out of them I was fortunate enough to find two pair of short ankle length dressy boots ❤️❤️ very grateful for those and they’re comfortable too they look great with dresses or pair of slacks

Bonus bonus - my black pumas - again because I cannot get slip on shoes my black pumas because I’m short my pants are usually just a tad bit long I can wear my black puma sneakers and slip on shoes because they don’t look like sneakers and they’re so comfortable I’m extremely grateful for those

Timberlain thank you I couldn’t think of the name of my boots ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I recently bought a more cutesy pair of Tims that reminded me of my old ones, but are a bit more feminine with a fluffy shearling cuff. I have a pair of Sorel Caribou boots if we do any snowy travel, but they are so heavy and clunky. Thankfully, I don't really need anything like that very often.

MY PEOPLE!!! I wear Crocs every single day- even had to swap into them at a recent class reunion. I have mis-aligned hips, femurs, and tibias, and flat feet, so it is really difficult to find a "regular" shoe that fits properly and doesn't give me painful leg and foot cramps almost as soon as I put them on. Here is what I am wearing today:

It's hard to tell, but these are my silver glitter Crocs. I also have a pair of gold glitter Crocs, as well as a pair of gold glitter Crocs that are fuzz-lined for winter. My newest acquisition? Harry Potter glitter Crocs. Depending on the angle from which you look at them, they appear green, peacock, or purple. I ADORE them and wish I had them on today, but this afternoon's lab involves sulfuric acid; I don't want to take the chance of something awful happening to my new Crocs!

Once upon a time (40+ years ago), when I could wear regular shoes, I had two favorite pairs of low pumps for work. One was light grey leather, open toe, with tiny diamond-shaped cut outs along the sides. The other was red leather with a small red leather braid around the foot opening. Both pairs were incredibly comfortable, and I wish I'd purchased two of each pair, so when the first ones wore out, I'd have a replacement!

My insoles... Made by Tread-Labs, and almost as good as the one custom orthotics I've ever purchased- and more affordable, too!

Yup, we missed it by 2 years; we were in San Francisco by that time, watching the news about the snowfall back east and taking care of infant DD!
