Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Yup, we missed it by 2 years; we were in San Francisco by that time, watching the news about the snowfall back east and taking care of infant DD!

LUCKY! The March superstorm that year coincided with SU's spring break. I had been home for the week with my family in Florida. While it was only flurries, we actually saw snow in FL for that one. Hancock Airport was closed in Syracuse, so I had to fly back a day late. I believe it was the first time ever that the university closed for snow. I think it was also the first time they deflated the Dome for snow. As you know, Syracuse gets a ton of snow, but I'd never seen it like this. There were essentially tall snow tunnels along the Quad and the areas along the streets that had been plowed were these massive walls of snow. The only other thing I saw close to it was January 1995 when I was returning from break. They had two blizzards while we were away and the next one was moving in upon arrival and already dumping a ton of snow. It was one of those creepy thunder snow kind of storms. I was living in a house on Walnut Place, about a block from Bird Library, and the only thing I could see was the 3rd floor's dormer windows. My ride had to go the wrong way down M Street just to drop me off at the driveway as our house dad was trying to snow-blow a path. I'm sure San Francisco was far more pleasant!

All of the blues:
Sky
Sea
All of my navy blue clothing
And of course, the blue lights on the castle
I'm a blue person as well! Sometimes I have to remind myself not to buy that blue sweatshirt but a different color. So when I venture beyond the blues I will get something that I think is brown but is really green. Gotta love that colorblindness.

Unlike many women I have known, I have never been a shoe person. Also, have never owned a pair of crocs! (I read once that they are very slippery in the rain)
However, I have had a few pairs of shoes that I have loved.
In 1980, while visiting a friend in CA, I bought a pair of Birkenstock sandals that I wore and loved for many years.
Various running/walking shoes (which I just call sneakers): started with New Balance, then I got fitted at an expensive running shoe store and a pair of adidas became my next favorite. (bought them at DSW or online after the first pair) But recently, after reading an article online in one of my Disney groups that recommended Hokas, I decided to give them a try. I had amazon gift card $, so I bought a pair and totally lucked out. I love them so much!!

Honorable mention: Red Capezio flats that I bought in NYC and wore at my wedding.

WDWEPCOT: I wanted white go-go boots so much but my mother wouldn’t let me have them. She was very strict about clothing and shoes. All my shoes had to have rounded toes! (like Buster Browns, loafers, etc.)

Good Morning!

Disney animated movies

Taking pictures with Disney characters at the parks

Walking through the American girl doll store downtown Chicago even though my girls are adults now - it’s fun to remember the days when we would take them there when they were a little girls.

Happy Thursday friends and great topic dear PollyannaMom

Kid food=Me! Dad is the exact opposite!

Dad and I both enjoy doing color hidden pictures and spot the differences meant for kids. I also prefer kids word searches to adult versions.

Kids books have a way often being healing, endearing, and fun to reread.

Mine are tucked away in the closet, but they look like this. I replaced the traditional corded laces with broad orange ones.

My original ones looked a lot like this.

These are the Sorels that are my current snow boots (that I rarely ever need). They don't look nearly as chunky in the pic, but they're really clunky.

I am a shoe lover. I literally could spend all day on cute shoes...ones I want, ones I've owned, ones I used to own, ones I've borrowed, ones that I can no longer wear, etc.

Hmmmmm...kid things...

Sesame Street - DD15 and her friend have been trying to figure out a good duo costume for Halloween. DD suggested Bert and Ernie and her friend had no idea who they were. I own several volumes of Old School Sesame Street, so I think we're going to have to give her an introduction. I still have my old Ernie doll from the 1970s and I have an old Ernie koosh ball sitting on my desk.

Mac & Cheese - It was my favorite as a kid and I still love it. I don't like it all jazzed up with seafood or bacon or herbs. I could never eat the Kraft stuff when I was a kid because I was allergic to the Yellow 5 dye used to color the Kraft powder, so my mom always made it from scratch with white American, white cheddar, and really any other white cheese.

Peanuts - We got AppleTV+ with the purchase of my new phone and plan shift back in June. I have the holiday DVD collection, but I love the convenience of being able to stream it with Apple. I was also shocked when I saw that they have a chunk of the library. This is a recent discovery. Over the last few days, I've been watching Charlie Brown cartoons I haven't seen since the 70s and 80s. I cannot wait to watch the Easter Beagle this spring!

Kids’ TV shows and movies: I especially love Bluey! I also enjoy Mickey Mouse cartoons :)

Coloring! I love sitting at the dining room table and coloring with my DGD. Love colored pencils, no matter how often I have to sharpen them!

Love children's books! One of the things I miss, being retired, is reading a good children’s book aloud to a class and doing all the voices. :)

Kid things . . .

PB&J, especially n those days when I don’t feel like cooking.

Coloring Books - I find coloring to be very relaxing. Right now I am working my way through an adult coloring book from WDW’s 50th anniversary. I prefer colored pencils to crayons though, and have a box of 100 colors.

Disney - movies, books, parks, music, merchandise

Well back in the day it used to be payday because you used to get paid every Friday - always grateful for paydays!!!

Like a nice slow quiet work day as a lot of people take Fridays off grateful for those

Getting all my cleaning done on Fridays so I have the whole weekend !! See above about slow Friday work - grateful for that !!

Casual Friday - back when I worked in corp office loved Fridays we could wear jeans !

Friday was always the go out and have a long lunch day - 🍹

Friday Night was the go out and have fun with your friends night back when I was younger !!

Friday to me is the fun day of the week - it’s usually the starting day of my vacations - it’s usually a slow day at work - it was often payday - it was go out day - it’s just the hey let’s have fun day if the week !! Love Fridays !!!

Happy Friday Friends!

#1 - Friday Night Live with ResortTV1 - I look forward to watching this on YouTube every Friday, if possible. I’ve met a lot of people in the chat there, and I look forward to catching up with them every week. If anybody would like to watch them on YouTube, and go in the chat, my screen name there is also slo.

#2 - Happy Patients At Work - our patients are always happier on Fridays. I do want to clarify, I rarely have crabby, horrible patients that come into the office, they are always pretty happy, they are just even happier on the weekends. I also enjoy talking with them about their weekend plans.

#3 - The Anticipation Of The Weekend - we normally always have something to do on the weekend. Sometimes it’s fun, sometimes it’s work around the house, sometimes it’s just relaxing - regardless what we’re doing, I always look forward to doing what we have planned.

Early Out - Pre-covid, we had a set number of days in the office each week as well as a set number of days working from home (WFH). One of those WFH days was our designated early out day. Long story, but we retained this practice after going 100% remote and Friday is my early out day. It's only a 45 minute difference, but it can be significant when you're trying to work in appointments or other special things.

The weekend - On a standard week, it's the beginning of my weekend time off. Not that I get a ton of downtime (today is going to be crazy), but it's nice to be away from my desk.

The Great British Baking Show - It's not an every Friday thing, but the current season is on Netflix and new episodes are released in the US every Friday. So, it's a nice little baking show treat every Friday in the fall. It's Pastry Week! :)
