Yup, we missed it by 2 years; we were in San Francisco by that time, watching the news about the snowfall back east and taking care of infant DD!
LUCKY! The March superstorm that year coincided with SU's spring break. I had been home for the week with my family in Florida. While it was only flurries, we actually saw snow in FL for that one. Hancock Airport was closed in Syracuse, so I had to fly back a day late. I believe it was the first time ever that the university closed for snow. I think it was also the first time they deflated the Dome for snow. As you know, Syracuse gets a ton of snow, but I'd never seen it like this. There were essentially tall snow tunnels along the Quad and the areas along the streets that had been plowed were these massive walls of snow. The only other thing I saw close to it was January 1995 when I was returning from break. They had two blizzards while we were away and the next one was moving in upon arrival and already dumping a ton of snow. It was one of those creepy thunder snow kind of storms. I was living in a house on Walnut Place, about a block from Bird Library, and the only thing I could see was the 3rd floor's dormer windows. My ride had to go the wrong way down M Street just to drop me off at the driveway as our house dad was trying to snow-blow a path. I'm sure San Francisco was far more pleasant!
