Three Things...Gratitude Thread

flyingdumbo127 thank you for the welcome. I haven't been in the Community for a while - usually just visit DL - but this thread looks like such a lovely way to start the day/week.

So many great ideas already.

Relatives would be my top - I get to spend tomorrow with my grandsons, the best way to spend a day (DS and DDIL have teacher work days but the boys don't have school).

Retirement - if I weren't retired, I would not get to do that! Though again in this year, like last, I am opening up a classroom (school starts Tuesday) because one of my friends is unexpectedly going to have to miss the first couple of months of school. But I could pick and choose the days I went in to set up the room. (Those poor kiddoes - last year, I was the teacher for the first 2 weeks of school for half of them and subbed several weeks in all their classes.)

Reading of course.

I love road trips, too. That's all we did when I was a kid. Never went on an airplane till I was 20. Back then, there were no sound walls, so I would imagine what the lives were like of the people whose houses we passed. Nowadays, most of our road trips are to DL with DS's family, so that's a bonus!

I'm grateful that I can still ride my bike. Old age is a lot different than it was when my grandmothers were around. I can't picture either of them riding a bike!

Here in CA, rain! We had a good year this year. I know in other parts of the country it is not a good thing. Throw in a rainbow and rainy day recess and it's even better.

It's nice to sit here and think of nothing but good things.

And I know this is a weird one, but radiation - I've been cancer free for 5 years now. It has helped so many people. And the people who administered it were so lovely - they would project beautiful pictures on the ceiling - trees blowing in the breeze, fields of flowers, clouds floating by - and play any music I wanted.

This is such a great thread. In the middle of planning for school, my mind is going to be going through even more R words looking for more positives!

Looking at your first post, where you hoped this thread would get long - looks like you hit the jackpot! Wow, 509 pages and growing! When I need a pick me up, I'm going to go back and read a few more pages at a time.
To tie that in with the letter R, we could say that this thread has been refreshing, restoring, and regenerative.

:grouphug:Gardenrooms and truly God Bless You. Always remember that cancer NEVER defines you! Dad and I God willing next year will be able to volunteer in some way with the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

I Really love all of your answers :) Amen especially to rest, resiliency, and reruns.

Rejoice. As in a favorite hymn and scripture and some Christmas songs as well. Each day to me truly is a blessing in which to rejoice in no matter what.

Dad has a red 🚗I have good memories of my beloved late grandma's red car which became mine for many years.

Ralphs Supermarket is a store we are most grateful for! Dad will be shopping there tomorrow. Dad and I also prefer a lot of Ralph's (Kroger) store brand products.

Ruth my TX cousin, Ruth my 98-year-old friend from church out here, along with a sweet friend named Raquel.

My
recliner chair sure has been a blessing indeed. My stuffed animal Razzle always brings dad and I a smile.

1. Raspberries—I really like berries.
2. Reunions—just returned from one a few hours ago. It’s my dad’s mother’s side of the family. Has been the 2nd Saturday in August since before I was born. We spent the weekend. Took my dad and 2 of my sisters were there also. We do a fire at night and have a great time.
3. Renovations—my DH is redoing our 1960’s bathroom after the sink fell off the wall. He is doing a great job.

Good early morning friends with a hug

By my faith, my Redeemer, Jesus. Related, Revelations.

Relatives. Dad is sure a blessing from God to me.

Reading, both my ability to do so and thoroughly enjoy many books.

Routines can offer a lot of comfort.

Reassurance from a family member or friend indeed can bring much hope anew.
Awesome post flying. Luv the thoughtfulness

Not a weird one at all. It saved your life and countless others. From my experience, the caregivers involved involved in these very intense, emotional fields of medicine are very special ppl.

Amen! This really is a great thread. It really grounds me. Cheers!

lol as I was floating in my pool today (see yesterday) I realized I HAVE to add Radiator Springs and especially RRR. I got to take care of my older grand baby the summer he was 3 (DS was teaching summer school and DDIL was working in a hospital) and his FAVORITE movie was Cars. We watched it sooo many times. I especially love hearing the music as we round the curve. Always puts a smile on my face and brings back so many wonderful memories.

Welcome! We have a few things in common. My reason for missing yesterday was because my DGD was here for a sleepover. She is 5 and the center of our universe.
I also didn’t fly until I was older, around 18-19 and that was stand-by between NYC and Buffalo (I went to college in Buffalo) I think it cost $29.00!
I am also a retired teacher.
I am also cancer-free for 5 years and had an excellent experience when I was going through radiation. (luckily, no chemo)
Looking forward to more of your postings!

Fun! My babies are 6 and 9 - they grow so fast! lol my first flight was all the way from SF to Chicago. It was a long time ago, on Western Airlines, the ooooooonly way to fly! They used to serve free champagne (those were the days) and mid-flight a flight attendant came running down the aisle with an open bottle of champagne sloshing all over the place. Seems an elderly man thought the exit door was the restroom door and was trying to open it. Needless to say, I watched everyone who went to the restroom after that.

Hi all! Missed yesterday and late posting today because my DGD was here for a sleepover. Can’t think of anything else I’m more grateful for and I am exhausted, but will try to catch up!
3 lazy things
1. Putting off the dishes until tomorrow
2. Playing games on my phone for longer than I should some mornings as well as hanging out on the DIS!
3. Spending time totally focused on my breathing and nothing else.

3 R’s (haha, reading, writing, and arithmetic!)
1. Reading, always has been and always will be.
2. My BFF from college who has always been there for me
3. Restful sleep: it doesn’t happen often, but when it does, I am so grateful!

Good Monday Morning!

Sometimes the sides are the best part of the meal

#1 - My MIL’s Cole Slaw - It’s so good! I can’t eat it anymore, due to my UC, but when I could I loved it. She’s always willing to make it and bring it to cookouts in the summer.

#2 - My Mom’s Seven Layer Salad - Again, I can’t eat it anymore, but since everyone else enjoys it, my mom brings this dish at Christmas, Easter and any other time I request it. This is a time consuming salad for her to make.

#3 - My Grandma’s (RIP) Candied Sweet Potatoes - I always loved them at Thanksgiving. After she passed away, I decided to make them, the only problem was, is that I had no recipe. So after years of adding this and taking away that, I’ve finally got my sweet potatoes to taste very close to hers. There were many dishes/meals I loved of my grandma’s, but they went with her when she died. Because of this, I make sure that all my girls favorite meals are in writing, so when I die, they have them.
