Three Things...Gratitude Thread

So...my avatar pic kind of gives it away... DONALD DUCK is my FAVORITE!!!!!!!!! :donald: The avatar pic is from an artist by the name of Michael Godard and it's called "The Duality of Donald."

1. Donald Duck!!!!! - While I had been begging for a trip to a Disney park since I was in preschool, I didn't get to go until the mid 1980s, when I was in middle school. Mickey Mouse shirts had suddenly become super trendy in my school, but I'm just not a huge Mickey fan. So, when we went, I got a Donald shirt. Middle school girls can get pretty nasty and petty, so I really heard it for not at least getting the trendy character. I didn't care...I love Donald! What's funny...I don't have much in the way of Donald bags. My mom bought me a Loungefly backpack, but I've hated Dooney's attempt at Donald prints, Harvey's came the closest but they never made any bags in the styles I like carrying, and Gucci would have had to be perfect for me to spend that kind of money. I have a number of nods to Donald in my home office, my last car had an angry Donald decal on the back window, I have a phone case that I use sometimes, I have a Donald Vans backpack that I love, I have lots of Donald clothing, and I even have a Donald Duck ringtone that has embarrassed me a few times in public.

2. The family time - The Disney memories we've created for our kids recently threw me for a loop. We're headed to California in July for softball for DD15. DD17 decided that this was the trip where she wanted to come along so we could do a mini grad celebration vacation thing for her. While it's a stay to play tournament, the team bought out so we could stay wherever. For many, that wherever was buddying up for beach house rentals. For us, it was getting a hotel that was walking distance from Disneyland. I really just thought we'd spend some time in DTD during our downtime during the tournament, watch fireworks from outside of the park at night when we could and hit Sequoia, Yosemite, and Lassen Volcanic (among others) for the grad trip stuff after softball. Earlier this week, DD17 said to me "Mom, I love you and all of the national park stuff we've experienced, but Disney is my childhood. I really want to go to Disneyland." I had a feeling since she had started sending me Disney reels on Instagram and was talking about what attractions will be closed this summer. Needless to say, we're going to Disneyland to make more family memories.

3. WDWs Florida Resident Passes/Rates/Convenience - When my parents first took us to WDW, they thought we'd be one and done. We stayed at an inexpensive motel outside of the park, spent one day at MK, one day at EPCOT...and that was it for Disney stuff. We also went to Sea World, Kennedy Space Center, and spent the rest of that trip in Sanibel. It was a great trip- although us kids wanted more Disney. Thankfully, my parents caught the Disney bug during that trip as well. We went back nearly every other year after that...and then we moved to Florida. It wasn't for Disney, but having WDW less than 2 hours away was pretty nice. I moved away, but Florida resident prices for my parents and brother's family have made it the ideal place to meet up for family get-togethers. That also ushered in the era of us staying onsite. My parents love it so much that they started taking advantage of special FL resident ticket packages. When that wasn't enough and they started looking at best values, they splurged a little and started getting Florida resident APs. They travel to a lot of places in retirement, but they always make time for anywhere from 4-6 WDW mini trips per year. They send me all kinds of little texts during their trips and sometimes even FaceTime so I can share in the moment. It's just nice to see them still being able to enjoy the magic.

When I was in elementary school, we all used to try to imitate Donald Duck’s voice. It was so hard to do and I had the utmost respect for Clarence Nash.

Even though MM is my favorite (we do share a name, after all, as well as a sunny disposition), Donald is so important and serves as a contrast (somewhat like my DH!) so how could I not love him? :)

On our last trip, we were lucky to see the Dapper Dans performing when we entered MK. When they sang the MMC March I started recording and when they were singing Mickey Mouse I yelled out Donald Duck and one of them pointed to me and gave me a thumb’s up. It made me so happy! (Can’t explain that to a non-Disney person)

My Dad has always been able to do a great Donald Duck voice. :donald:

During one trip, we made those custom T-shirts at what was then Disney Springs, and DS's had Donald on it. He was younger and eventually outgrew his, but DH ran across his own just yesterday while straightening up his dresser, and it brought back a happy Disney memory.

Donald in Mathmagic Land was always a favorite cartoon of mine.

Good Morning - It’s the start of another week

#1 - My Sandwich Wraps - I make great wraps every day for my DH’s lunch and I make them for me many times too. I use the high fiber/low carb tortillas for him and he loves them. I just made him a tuna one a few minutes ago.

#2 - My Lasagna Rollups - They are made with spinach & cheese, and they are soooo…..good. I haven’t made them for quite some time because they are time consuming to make.

#3 - Pigs in a Blanket - One of my favorite things to order for breakfast in a restaurant - love them!

(Mon, 6/10) - three wrapped or rolled foods you're grateful for

1. Rolled ice cream - first had it on vacation while looking for ice cream. When we walked in all they had was rolled ice cream and I've been hooked ever since!

2. Sausage pinwheels - so yummy!

3. Boom boom chicken wraps - a local restaurant here makes these and they are so good! They are closed for remodeling right now and I definitely miss these sandwiches!

1. Lumpia - I used to work on a team that did monthly food days. I had a Filipino teammate that made the most amazing Lumpia (Filipino version of a pork spring roll). She'd make enough to fill one of those massive turkey roaster sized tin containers you see in the supermarket.

2. Veggie cream cheese pinwheels - Another goodie from that team's food day's were my old supervisor's pinwheels. I'm not sure what brand of cream cheese or tortillas she used, but I've never been able to duplicate them. I think she may have also put some taco seasoning in there...just a hint. Either way, the veggies had a nice crunch to really make it a perfect snack.

3. Anything Mexican/Tex Mex that is wrapped - They are individually awesome, but it's such a mood based and location based thing to pick just one...enchiladas, taquitos, flautas, tamales, soft tacos, burritos, and pretty much any dish that is served with a warmer of tortillas so that you can do the wrapping (carnitas, queso flameado, fajitas, carne asada, etc.-- really any parrilladas).

Honorable Mentions - Pierogies and Dumplings (Dim Sum, Gyoza, Wontons, Potstickers, etc.) - they're not really what you thing of as a wrap, but the process to make them involves a wrapping action with the dough around the filling. I've always loved potato pierogies, but one of my coworkers was married to a Polish woman for a while that use to make the most amazing chicken and veggie ones.

Catching up a bit...

SQUARE
Liberty Square!
LP Sleeves and CD cases. I like to own the music I enjoy.
Crosswords
Squares of chocolate
Slices of bread (square-ish!)

DISNEY ::MickeyMo
Donald Duck is a favorite, plus: -

Lots of amazing memories from Disney vacations, especially childhood family trips.

The feeling I get when standing on Main Street. The music everywhere. The playfulness of the rides. The escapism.

Beauty & the Beast is particularly nostalgic for me.

WRAP'N'ROLL! 🎶
Easy start - I really like an egg/spring roll!
Swiss Roll... Chocolate or Lemon Or a Battenberg; it wouldn't roll, but it is wrapped in marzipan.
Tacos
Flatbread wrap with falafel
And I agree with you all about Cinnamon Rolls!! 😋

#1 - How Disney always brings out my inner child - nothing does this like Disney does, and I have a lot of inner child in me.
Yes! I love this! 😍

We watched Donald in Mathmagic Land many times. I recorded it on VHS. :)
Is it available to stream anywhere? I would love to show it to my granddaughter.
