Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Wishing all of you that celebrate, a humbling faith renewing and strengthening Holy Season of Lent.

:bday:upcoming to your daughter, Caseheidi!

3 Things that make me laugh

1 Memories of Champ doing his "I want my scrambled egg," dance

2 A memory of my late friend Shirley and I at a restaurant whose giant toy machine stubbornly refused to release the teddy bear that I had won for Shirley. A kind manager had to open up the back of the machine and give it to us by hand. Shirley and I enjoyed many a smile from that experience.

3 The innocence and genuine playfulness of many a child have sure blessed me with many a smile and much laughter over the years both as a teacher and at church.

1. The interactions between my adult kids - it's fun the way the relate to each other and they are always cracking me up!
2. Big Bang Theory - we just finished watching the whole series through again
3. Mentioned above - the Bob Newhart show. I need to see if that streams online somewhere. I'd love to watch it again!

Today's Topic (Wed 2/22) - 3 Things You're Grateful For Because They make You Laugh

1. DD keeps me laughing all the time. I think she lays awake just thinking of ways to make me laugh sometimes
2. Children - sometimes I think this is why I prefer to teach Elementary School. Kids are so funny. My best quick story was when I was grading 3rd grade papers and the kids had to fix the sentence of "Henry the VIII had eight wives" One student misspelled six and wrote "Henry the VIII had sex wives!" That kept me laughing the rest of the day.
3. Roller Coasters - I know. DH thinks I am crazy because as others are screaming and whooping, I am laughing. I just can't help it, they bring me joy!

Today's Topic (Wed 2/22) - 3 Things You're Grateful For Because They make You Laugh
1. When DD#2 was about 3 years old, she came up to her dad, with one hand palm up and the other palm down, and said "Dad, my hands don't match".....

2. My little car salesman in training DS was selling Cub Scout camp cards and a lady said she might get some later. He responded "We may not have any next time, so you should get some while the getting is good." He was 7...I have no idea where he heard that phrase...

3. When I was pregnant with DD#2, I had bad morning sickness. DD#1 (then 3) made it clear she did not want to catch what was making me sick.

Today's Topic (Thurs, 2/23) - 3 Favors You're Grateful For (that someone did for you or that you were glad you could do for someone else)

This topic is inspired by my MIL (it's her birthday today!) because she's always helping people out. I'm grateful for:

The many times she has helped me with various projects and questions

Being able to help all of our parents in return with technology stuff

DH's friend who readily shares his home maintenance skills and also takes care of our cats when we travel

Good Thursday Morning Disers

#1 - I’m grateful for all the times my mom watched my little Sophie dog (RIP). In the 14 years Sophie was with us, I only needed to board her once. In a few weeks my mom will be helping us again when she comes to my house every day, when we go to Florida, to check on our sweet little Zoe the Guinea pig.

#2 - I’m grateful for DD19’s head travel coach, of 7 years, for helping get her recruited to play softball in college. He never hesitated, or stopped believing in my DD. and he spoke with her now college coach often to help finalize everything. I love this man very much, and he’s one of my DD’s most respected, favorite and special people.

#3 - I’m grateful for my mom and grandma (RIP) watching DD24 for the first 3 years of her life when I was at work. They saved me So. Much. Money. and it gave them a wonderful time bonding with their new baby granddaughter.

I’m grateful my old boss ( way old job ) took the time & trouble to run her contacts and find me a job when I was unemployed - my old job that we all worked at was like family - 50 of us - it was so nice until the owner sold it - but we all stayed in contact - it’s been almost 30 years and we all still keep in touch ❤️
I’m grateful for a woman I babysat for as a teen - she helped me so much during a very difficult time in her life and it never showed - she was super special to me ! ❤️
I’m grateful for the neighbors next door growing up - I all but lived with them - very kind giving people always helpful ❤️
Bonus - my Aunt - I’ve mentioned her before - I’m grateful for the small amount of time wish it could have been more / with my Aunt - always thinking of my sister & me ❤️

1. The little army of neighborhood girls who have been my dog sitters, plant sitters and package picker uppers for many years. There are two sets of sisters that have been doing this and although when they were young they very much wanted the extra money, they now are older and have real jobs (two have moved out of their parents homes and the last two probably aren’t far behind) and it is truly a favor to me that they are still willing to do it. Heck, the one from this weekend I paid but also left a bottle of champagne for her 21st birthday. This girl has a much younger sister that I have my eye on, but I think she is still a bit too young.
2. My sisters—often helped me out with my kids when they were little.
3. Volleyball moms—my daughter plays on a team that travels a lot and we have a team mom, but so many of the non designated moms ( and dads) go above and beyond with figuring out which hotels, scheduling team dinners, catering food if it’s a late night, having snacks for between matches, making sure they have water, pain meds, ice etc…we’ve been on a ton of teams over the years with this kid and 2 others and there have been great parents, but this team is a whole other level.

Favors

1. Elderly neighbor who I interrupted in her bathrobe to come notarize our will changes. She was so sweet and came right over.
2. Neighbor who brought my Instacart order to me when ir was delivered wrong.
3. Years ago I was in a pinch and my best guy friend loaned me his car to take care of some things

3 Favors You're Grateful For

1 Thanks, Eksmama01 for reminding me of the kind neighbor in the building next door who brought dad and I our order that had been misdelivered to him.

2 Friends who during this pandemic have kindly helped me (I pray) to spread a dash of extra witness and cheer by dropping things off at either a homeless shelter or for others on my behalf.

3 Dad's kind dentist who has offered to give me a free second opinion visit in a couple of weeks.

1. My family, for helping with my kids
2. My soccer friends, for always including me in tournament chats to see if I'm interested in playing
3. My boss for giving me freedom when it comes to my youngest-I can always bring him with me on days off etc or leave with no questions if something comes up

1. My good friend came over and cleaned my refrigerator out when I had Carpel Tunnel Surgery and could not use my hand. She also helped me put my Christmas Decorations away during the same time (had surgery 2 days after Christmas) She really didn't need to do it, but insisted that she wanted to help me and visit with me while she did the work that I could not do.
2. Another good friend who offered to pick up DD from school and bring her home when I was going to have her walk (it is about 1 1/2 miles away) because our schedules didn't allow us to pick her up that day. DD hates the bus, and has major anxiety, so we tend to pick her up each day, and it was rainy that week.
3. My Nephew who came over to clean out our gutters. DH has a fear of heights, and I have been dealing with Frozen Shoulder, so it was hard for me to do it that time.
