Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Morning

#1 - I’m grateful for Jesus Christ’s birthday party every year on 12/25. When my girls were little we would always have birthday cake for dessert on Christmas Day with Happy Birthday Jesus written on it. I never wanted them to forget the reason for the season.

#2 - I’m grateful for my girls birthday parties. It’s a big year for both of my girls this year - they are turning 25 & 20. It’s a shame my oldest has estranged herself from us, so no party for her, but we’ll still have a party for DD19.

#3 - I’m grateful for Easter. I love us all getting together to celebrate Christianity’s most important holiday which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Today's Topic (Tues 2/21) - 3 Celebration* Things You're Grateful For

(* favorite holidays, things about this holiday...however you want to interpret it)
1. Mardi Gras...give me that yummy food and amazing drinks

2. My favorite holiday, though, is Christmas. I'm a gift giver (which is good, because I rarely am a gift receiver, lol).

3. Diwali All the candles/lamps, and the stunning Rangoli decorations are so beautiful.

I can’t say I have a favorite holiday - I’ve tried really hard over so many years to make holidays fun & special but with mental illness running rampant in my family holidays are a horror show no matter how small the holiday may be - certain family member will make sure they ruin every holiday no matter what so I’ve come to dread holidays - I don’t have fond memories of any - because of horrible family issues that would play out on or around all holidays
It’s really sad that people react in this manner - this is an issue they need to address or remove themselves from it and not inflect it on others - I have removed myself from this and I’m trying really hard to find some peace & joy in holidays - I can’t say again as it was not the case growing up either - refer back to mental illness family members had it growing up too
So with that being said … I can’t say what three I’m grateful for as my stance has been please take them off the calendar -
I’ve had friends try to get me to join them for holidays but I feel like a fifth wheel invading their family time so I decline
I’m not telling this for sympathy I’m just stating this is what I’ve been through and I’m looking for a path to make it better - my DD avoids holidays - she usually travels with her boyfriend someplace which is nice for her !
In the past I’ve tried to make really special the following holidays but now since it’s just me I think I will do something else - I may travel myself as I do like to do that and don’t mind traveling alone

Christmas of course
Easter
Halloween
Thanksgiving
4th of July

Holidays

1. Christmas because DD gets so excited.
2. Thanksgiving because DD is a Turkey baby so we go to my parents and celebrate her bday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas with them at the same time since they are out of state.
3. 4th of July because usually go to SC to the beach with a big dysfunctional group of family and friends.

3 Celebrations I'm grateful for

Amen, Slo, to your post! You know I sure agree.

1 God's blessing of calling me and my dad into life every day is truly something I pray to give Him thanks for always through my life from Him.

2 Easter is my favorite season. To even try to contemplate His Miracle of Love through His Resurrection is beyond humbling! For me, this season of renewal is also a beautifully humbling reminder that no matter how dark an hour may seem, Miracles are often found on each new day. I give extra praise be to God.

3 Christmas is my favorite time of year. An opportunity in a different way than starting tomorrow during Lent for me to walk with Him more initimately as together we approach the manger anew. Rebirth in another way. An extra reminder for me to give God thanks for those He has touched my life with in knowing including all of you.

I love that you included, PollyannaMom, the opportunity to establish family tradition. Dad and I enjoy doing just that as well. Small things and extra connection with those we love are such huge gifts of blessing from God indeed. Thank you:hug:for the reminder.

I tend to like celebrations that are less popular than traditional ones

1) DH and I celebrate the anniversary of our first date every year, which is sort of obscure to everyone but us.

2) I like to celebrate things with people at work by bringing in something to share.

3) We celebrate accomplishments at home by having a special meal and cake, or going out to dinner.

4) We take a lot of pictures to help remember our celebrations.

Today's Topic (Tues 2/21) - 3 Celebration* Things You're Grateful For

1. Christmas Season - DD and I love to decorate for this season, and we have some fun family traditions that we miss if they are skipped. Great time to spend time with each other. I too have some family issues that have not always made this time fun, but it is a time that I do spend with my brother and his boys. Next year will be our first without any of our parents, and I am going to work real hard to make it a happy one for us all.
2. The end and beginning of the school year. DD is in her last year of middle school. We always try to do something to celebrate the end of each year and the beginning. It is a time of change, and a time of making goals and evaluating our lives and routines. I will miss it when DD is done with school and it just becomes another day. That is unless I continue working in the school system, then I will keep it up I guess.
3. DD Birthday. The day I became a Mom after several years of trying. It has so many significant memories tied to it, and even turning 14 she still gets so excited. It is only 27 days away and she celebrates again!

Our Christmas and Thanksgiving days hosting Coast Guard recruits are very special.

We always celebrate the anniversary of the day we met, June 10. We try to go back to Seaside Heights where we have pizza with friends, and at least one of them was there that night when Tom and I met.

In my Catholic tradition, All Souls Day is a day to remember the people in our lives who have passed. I think Disney has made Coco representative of that in an excellent way. Once my maternal grandfather died, in the ‘70s All Souls day became very important for me.

My warped dry sense of humor
Robin Williams stand up comedy ❤️ - I really miss him
I Love Lucy - she was so funny !!
A whole slew of funny movies that I watch a hundred times because they are so funny !
An old set some may miss that you should try some time that you can catch on public tv or classic movies is the Thin Man series - 4 movies made in the late 1930s with William Powell & Myrna Loy - they are very funny !

Laugh

1. Ryan Reynolds. He cracks me up every time.

2. DD. I know she's always my answer. But seriously, she is hilarious. Every adult she spends time with tells me.

3. My bad dog who decided last week to eat nothing but the cat food. I kept thinking wow, the cats must be hungry. Until I caught her scarfing it down.

Happy Hump Day

#1 - I’m grateful for my DD19 - nobody makes me laugh more than her.

#2 - I’m grateful for the show Schitt’s Creek - so funny and makes me laugh more than Seinfeld. I’ve now watched Schitt’s Creek 3 times, and every time I love it more.

#3 - I’m grateful for my friend, fellow softball parent and a person I coached with for 5 years. We spent a lot of time together and I used to call him my softball husband. We had some great laughs over the years and still do when we see each other.
