Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I am always grateful when things work like they’re supposed to, especially appliances, but pretty much anything. I get very cranky when things don’t work :)

I am always grateful when I look in the cabinet, fridge, or any storage area, and see back-ups for all the products I use, from paper towels to handcream. When I was younger I only bought things when I ran out of them!

Grateful to PollyannaMom for keeping this thread going. It was nice to come back to it and see it going strong.

3 things in general for which I am grateful...

Friends who've hung around. We moved a lot when DH and I were in grad school, he was doing a PhD/post-doc/looking for the "right" job, and I lost touch with a lot of friends with whom I was pretty close. Lives change, situations change, people move on. However, I have a couple (well, 3) friends who've stayed with me during my "silent" times, stuck around when life circumstances have changed, etc. Only 3, but those 3 are lifesavers!

DD31. We are still best friends and each others' support system. We never had the whole "terrible twos" or "terrible teens" thing that so many of my friends seem to have experienced. She comes in to talk about her day every evening (she/SIL/LittleGuy live with us), always has a smile and a hug for me in the morning, is my best travel buddy, grocery shopper, and driving companion. I am so lucky that this has always been our relationship, and always will be, if I have anything to say.

Local taprooms. NO I'm not an alcoholic, NO we aren't out drinking every night of the week. I live in a small college town but fortunately our "town" is about a mile from campus. We have a couple of taprooms that seem to attract the "townies," the full-time residents of our town. It's nice to be friends with the folks in our neighborhood, to stay in touch with the local gossip, to exchange ideas, accomplishments, etc. These taprooms give us all a place to hang out and touch base with friendly people.

WILDLY COLORFUL THINGS...

I have three dresses that are tie-dyed. Love them and all their happy colors, and also the emotional connection to going to high school/college in the 1970s.

Autumn leaves in New England. I've lived in other areas that experience fall, but none of the trees in these places seem to have the vibrancy that I see in the colors of our trees here in New England.

Sunrises/sunsets over the ocean.

My sneakers - love colorful sneakers
My leggings- I don’t go for basic colors - I like the colorful leggings

These are both SOOOOOO me as well! Don't get me wrong, I have some understated pieces that make good neutrals against the bright and colorful, but I REALLY like colorful! When I'm buying running shoes, I loathe it when my shoe of choice only has boring options. I've had to compromise of late for leggings and compression shorts because the ones I really like are no longer being made in fun patterns.

Pucci - It's not in the budget at the moment, but Pucci has to be one of the most fun and colorful designer brands ever. All I can do right now is drool over their extensive ready to wear collection while channeling memories of the one shirt I once owned and LOVED. I wore that thing to death over the years.

Aquarium Fish - It's been some time since I was a fish owner, but man, I LOVED my colorful fish. They were far from peaceful, but they were so bright and feisty. DH hated my tanks but one day, when the kids are off the payroll, I'd like to get another show tank and hire someone to do all the cleaning and maintenance for me so that DH won't hate them as much. Ideally, I'd get FIVE separate tanks! 1. My dream tank for triggerfish and whatever can survive with them. 2. A peaceful tank for discus. 3. Another African Cichlid breeding colony. 4. A saltwater reef environment. 5. Another tribute to South American Cichlids and the handful of pretty fish that can coexist.

The rocks in Glacier NP - Lake McDonald in Glacier is well known for its colorful rocks, but it's a phenomenon present in a lot of the bodies of water within the park. What's funny is that the rocks lose their luster out of water, but it's just awe inspiring to see them under these crystal clear waters in shades of everything from red and orange, purples and blues, to bits of white and brown neutrals to make the bright ones pop even more. Even in deeper rough waters, these rocks shade the colors of the rapids.

Me too boring black with camo print design got to have something to break up the plain color 🤣🤣🤣

When I think of wildly colorful, I think of the psychedelic era: album covers, tie-dyed shirts, and the embroidered patches I used to make for my jeans. Grateful that I still have some of those colorful mementos.

We have been watching the show Elsbeth, and I just love her wildly colorful outfits and bags, even though I am like the total opposite. :)

The old Main St Electrical Parade. Thousands of sparkling lights, so much color.

...and it is that emotional connection that I depend on to bring customers off the main walkway of the vendor market and on to the grass area full of other vendors out of their way and to look at the vendor who has a wide collection of tie-dyed shirts..he is the first vendor they see and the only vendor those 70s kids share with their friends...who are in their 70s

Today's Topic (Fri, 3/28) - 3 things on a stick you're grateful for (does not have to be food if you want to think outside the box)

TGIF FRIENDS :yay:

#1 - Corn Dogs, Corn Dogs and more Corn Dogs - I love them! Especially ones that you get freshly dipped at a festival - so good!

#2 - Dilly Bars From Dairy Queen - I have one almost every Saturday night. They are just enough ice cream for me to enjoy without overindulging.

#3 - Swiffer Duster - You gotta put the duster on the duster stick in order for it to work well. I don’t know what I did before Swiffer dusters - they are the best!

Teriyaki chicken/beef
Toasted almond ice cream bars. They are just like the chocolate eclair and strawberry shortcake bars, but i MUCH prefer the toasted almond bars!
Dinner at Ohana! (ok not sure how they do it now, but they used to serve the food from huge skewers)

Me too boring black with camo print design got to have something to break up the plain color 🤣🤣🤣

I should enlist your help! My bright orange pair of Brooks is prematurely falling apart. They've offered me a new pair of shoes but the colors currently available on the new model aren't as bold as I'd like. DD16 weighed in last night, but I'm still on the fence.

Monopod - I don't use it all the time, but it's kind of like a selfie stick for bigger DSLR and Mirrorless cameras...except that I don't use it for selfie stick purposes and it's more for control and stability. Either way, it's putting my camera on a stick.

Toasted/Roasted Marshmallows - A campfire favorite, but I also used to do it at home when we had a gas cooktop. I'd grab a skewer and toast marshmallows over the burner.

Wax Applicator Sticks/Pieces - Maybe TMI, but after seeing all of these makeovers on shows like QE, I decided to try a home waxing kit with one of those little pots to heat up the blue wax pellets. I'm a novice and still learning, but all of those little sticks and plastic pieces it comes with to apply the wax make this so much easier. I was shocked how well wax on a stick worked even on my first try.
