Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Happy HUMP Day!

#1 - My Parish/Church - I know I talked a lot about my parish yesterday, but I have to make it my number one place I’m grateful for today. I look forward to going to Mass every weekend - the minute I walk in the door of our church I feel peaceful.

#2 - Our Home - I love our house, I love our street and I love our neighbors. I’m grateful every day that we found this house when we did. The minute I walked in the door I knew it had to be ours, and 20 years later, I still feel happy to be here.

#3 - My Grandparents House - Even though my grandparents have been gone for a while, I am still very grateful to have spent so much of my childhood in their house. I loved everything about being there, and I would spend an entire week there when I was on a school break. They had a huge yard, my grandpa had a wonderful garden, my grandpa had a riding lawnmower, which I thought was the coolest thing ever, they live close to the downtown area and my grandpa and I would walk there on Sunday mornings for a newspaper - I can go on and on about how much I loved my grandparents house

Three places...

My cars. I love to drive and sometimes take myself on a drive to nowhere, just to clear my mind and relax. Also, DD and I have had some of our best talks ever, sitting in the car, parked in our driveway, in the darkness of night time. There is something close and personal about this for us.

My sister's apartment. Whenever I need a fast get-away, be it overnight or for multiple nights, her place is always open to me. She lives <200 miles away, so easily less than a 3 hour drive. Sometimes, my brain just needs the space, the relief from being away from my every-day responsibilities, and her house is the place I go.

The ocean/beach. When I need to contemplate, plan, celebrate, grieve, or clear my mind, sitting on the rocks at the edge of the beach/ocean is my place to go.

Thank you for the caring words.

Our home- I pulled into the driveway at about 4:45pm yesterday. I had been on the road since 3:30am. I often find myself most grateful for home when I make these kinds of marathon drives.

My college campus- DD18 mentioned how well manicured everything is on their campus that it makes the outside world seem kind of shabby and run down. I never thought about it quite that way, but I’ve always felt the beauty of my school’s campus had a huge impact on why I fell in love in the first place. It’s definitely a place I see as home.

Our National Parks- I can’t pick just one, so I will choose them all. Nature’s wonders coupled with the expansive wilderness really helps ground me and offer perspective on the big picture.

As I just said to a friend of mine we have problems but I’m grateful I have a life and I may have problems but at least I have problems they could always be worse. problems create goals and challenges to overcome they’re not always fun but they do help you grow - and the mere fact that I have problems shows that I have things in my life and I’m grateful for that

I’m grateful for my friends that I can bounce things off of or they’ll talk me off a ledge or knock some sense to me when it’s called for I’m very grateful for that

Very grateful I have a job I’m very grateful I can buy food whenever I need to or want to I’m very grateful I have a house I’m very grateful I have electricity plumbing heating cooling I’m very grateful I have a car

I am very grateful for my pets most of the time🤣🤣🤣 I’m especially grateful for my vacuum cleaner

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Prayers today has been one of added joy for you. I'm grateful to get to post this wish to each of you :)

Grateful for good sleep today and God's amazing grace of this day period. He also gave dad and me the opportunity to spend it together with and for Him.

Give Thanks is a favorite hymn of mine and one that to me rings extra Thanksgiving-y. I will listen to it later.

Thanksgiving:

Thankful that my SIL took over hosting at the last minute when MIL was sick. We all brought dishes and pulled it off.

Thankful for a family that plays board games at holidays and has fun with it. (We played "Finish Lines" yesterday - highly recommend.)

And the biggest of all - thankful for a happy announcement made by some family members yesterday... I'm going to be a great-aunt!!

Today is know for sales and called "Black Friday" where I am (for black, rather than red, ink in shops' books), so...

Today's Topic (Fri, 11/29) - 3 black things you're grateful for

My cast iron cookware !!!

ALL my black clothes - too many to mention but especially my sweatpants & leggings & sweatshirts they show off that blonde dog hair really well !!!

My black appliances - so happy I don’t have to get white !!! Or God forbid that harvest gold color my mother had 😳

:rotfl: Gotta love a little "fur glitter"

I second black cloths - great base items that go with almost anything. (Same goes for black shoes.)

One of our cats is mostly black - very grateful for her love and purrs over the years! 🐈‍⬛

Our black air fryer - so handy and we use it a lot!

Good Friday Morning!

#1 - My Black Winter Coats - I like black coats because they match everything. I’m grateful to have them to keep me warm this time of year.

#2 - My Black Mini Van - I don’t have it anymore, because I treated it in 2022, but I’m still grateful for it to this day. That van was the absolute best when Katie was playing travel softball. I always had enough space for all the stuff and all the kids.

#3 - My Black Running Shoes - I love my New Balance running shoes, and I always get black because they match everything. I do not have very good feet, and these New Balance shoes have really been great for me.

Thanksgiving - any three things...
*My brain keeps going back to things I was grateful for in food prep these last few days.

1. KitchenAid Stand Mixer - It was one of my must haves on our wedding registry that we didn't receive. DH eventually got me one as a bday gift a number of years later. It's something like 16 or 17 years old, still looks amazing, and was totally worth every penny. He got me a decorative mixing bowl for it a few years ago and now she's even more stunning. I don't want to jinx it, but it's always worked like a dream (*knocks on wood). I actually had the option for a top of the line professional mixer (different brand) as one of my 25th anniversary work gift options a few years ago but I decided to stick with what I have.
2. Apple Corer - This was a stocking stuffer gift last year. I was going through a phase of making apple chips and this is the best corer I've ever used. I didn't core any fruit for the holiday, but I did use it to core out holes in a stacked cake to add filling.
3. Immersion blender/power whisk combo - We used it these last two days for everything from making gravy, two separate rouxs, deviled egg filling, etc.

Black...

1. The dog - While she's starting to go gray, Voodoo is solid black. That's part of how she got her name. I used to have to keep a light on her when she was a puppy because I'd lose her in the dark taking her out at night. Our upstairs hallway is also really dark...to the point that you just can't see her. I can't tell you how many times we've tripped over her because she's too dark to stand out. Either way, she's a sweetheart, super smart, extremely obedient, and low energy.
2. Padded Tripod Bag - There aren't really any great bags out there for flying with softball/baseball bats. They are required to be checked and while I know some people that do nothing to protect them (leaving them exposed and just zip tying them to the kid's gear bag at most), good bats aren't cheap and can be compromised if banged around. The bag we'd been using broke and we didn't have any other options. Long story short, I was thinking about my camera gear and wound up finding a black padded tripod bag that has been the perfect bag for flying with her bats. It even had a series of ties inside that can hold the bats in place. I tossed an AirTag into an internal zipper compartment and we're good!
3. Movie Theater Loungers - We're going to see Wicked tonight and the theater we're going to has these super comfy black lounge seats. As I get older, I really appreciate comfy seats!
