Three Things...Gratitude Thread

#2 - Ice Maker - Our last refrigerator had a broken ice maker, and we missed it so much. Buying bags of ice every week is a big pain in the butt, and it takes up so much room in the freezer.
We are currently experiencing a broken ice maker right now. You're right, buying the bagged ice is a royal pain especially when the ladies of the house like to fill up their 5 gallon Stanley Cups each day. :D Leaving me just shards to make my Old Fashion's.

Hmmm... I've been out of action for a few days, I see!
Appliances:
My new fridge and stove. Each replaced models that were easily 30 years old, didn't work well, were practically falling apart. Old fridge was a side-by-side that I really liked, but the new one has split dutch doors on top with 2 veg bins and a flat drawer, and a bottom split-bin freezer with a sliding flat drawer. I was originally of the opinion that this would be a waste of space, but I love them. Stove is electric glass top. It's a pain to keep clean but I like it much better than the old JennAIr.
My very old washer and dryer. Once again, at least 25 years old, but they are old-style appliances that are real work-horses. DH has gotten pretty good at appliance repair, thanks to YouTube, so he keeps both these babies running. I hope to never have to replace them with all the new types of washers/dryers that seem to have a life of about 3 years!

Work from home:
Technically, I don't work from home, but I don't have to be in the chemistry building when there aren't labs in session. As long as everything is set up, ready to go, cleaned up after lab, and things run smoothly, nobody cares if I am there or not. THEREFORE, I work from home a lot.
Coffee: I can sit on my bed and drink good, free coffee while grading.
Comfty clothes: My normal work clothes are jeans and shirts, and I have to toss a couple shirts each semester due to acids and such; I definitely don't dress up for work. However, if I'm working from home, I can wear my leggings all day long!
Fans: The motor that runs the building a/c and air handling is dead and it won't be fixed and installed/running until sometime in late September. It has been brutal in the building and labs... 85F-95F in the halls and offices last week during the heat wave. We don't have a/c at home, but I can sit on my bed, in my leggings, coffee by my side, under my lovely floor fan while I grade, working at home!

More to come to catch up...

Letter "I"
Ice cream!!
Possibly my favorite food next to mac-n-cheese and seafood. I love ice cream, find it hard to resist, and there is always too much of it in this house. I mean... isn't it my responsibility to help keep the freezer empty, so there is space for more ice cream food? Peppermint stick is my favorite, although ginger is a strong contender!
Internet- my source of information, communication, and entertainment. So much easier than going to the library (especially for scientific stuff- I still borrow reading books on occasion), I don't have a cell phone, and I don't game or stream things... stick to chat boards, especially here, the dreaded Book of Faces (but messenger is my go-to), solitaire, and Mahjong.
Iced coffee and iced tea- in hand while grading, endlessly, endlessly grading! [actually, summer session ended yesterday. We teach an entire academic year of organic chemistry- two full semesters- in 8 weeks. I teach the labs, and grading lab reports is endless. I still have two reports to go, with 14 students, so 28 to grade by Tuesday, and we are away for a family weekend... which is why I'm playing on the DIS!]

Square patterns:
Waffles:
The resident soon-to-be 8 year old (14 days!) eats waffles for breakfast about half the time. DD found a brand with higher-protein so I make those for him usually. It's a filling, easy breakfast on busy mornings, especially with sausages and some applesauce. He loves his waffles (and pancacke)!
Mahjong board and layout patterns. I do like to play this online!
The periodic table. I'm not that much of a science geek (yes I am, just don't tell) but the periodic table makes teaching beginning chemistry a lot easier, once they understand it. Mostly I like the orderliness and repeating patterns of how the elements change. Such an orderly fashion, especially when arranged in such an orderly way!

Welcome back, Leebee and good morning hug to you my friend and everyone else too with love.

PollyannaMom, I love your pillows. Grandma would have too as she was very patriotic.

WDWEPCOT, Dad and ai sure go through pick a size paper towels fast. I remember how hard that and toilet paper were to find early on in Covid. Dad and I were so extra grateful to God to find both at long gone now Food 4 Less and the 99 Cent Only Store. We sure spent way more than 99 cents at 99 that morning! I pray to never take access to anything especially everyday essentials for granted again.

Dad enjoys waffles every now and then. As a kid Checkers was sure a lot of fun and so was Hopscotch.

Dad loves and is so good at filling crossword puzzle squares in.

Keyboard squares.

In our kitchen, the backsplash are pink squares with a Cross. God willing when I am recovered, I will take a picture. Remind me :)

Today’s edition comes with pictures 😊

Harveys woven bags- I’m a big fan of their woven bags. They’re a bit heavier than other Harveys, but I think they’re more durable. I’m currently carrying…

Checkerboard rug- I wanted a diner room, but didn’t want to pay to get the checkerboard tile effect. I found this affordable rug to complete the look. Of course, I haven’t used this room since March of 2020. It became DHs office during Covid and he’s still using it. He says the rug is soft.

Square cake pans- I have used them for intentionally square designs like boxes, but it also is a good starting point for sculpting cakes with squarish attributes.
