Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Dad loves and is so good at filling crossword puzzle squares in.

Keyboard squares.

In our kitchen, the backsplash are pink squares with a Cross. God willing when I am recovered, I will take a picture. Remind me :)
:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Well, I really should have thought of crosswords, too. I was just doing one earlier!!

Keyboard squares ...brilliant!

Social media gets a (well-deserved) bad reputation when we let it have too much power, but today let's concentrate on the good parts - things you've learned, people you've connected with, etc.

Today's Topic (Sun, 6/30) - 3 things you're grateful for about social media

The only social media I "do" is facebook, so I am going to include The DIS in here, too. No twitter, tiktok, linkedin, etc., for me.

First and foremost, all the wonderful people I have met here, who share their lives and are kind to me in many small (and larger) ways. I appreciate you all, from this board and the others here on The DIS. Even if I disagree with you vehemently (look at the Controversial Topics thread if you dare), I appreciate the time and consideration you take into making my world a bigger, better place.

The Book of Faces, aka, FaceBook. FB and, more importantly, Messenger, are my lifeline to friends and family. I do not have a cell phone so I don't text, but messenger gets me through to the people I love. While FB itself can be full of crap, I enjoy reading some of it and sharing info with others. I especially love the pictures we can share, especially when "memories" pop up and it's one of DD's old dance photos. I have a dear friend who took pics of her own daughter and DD over the years who generously shares with me.

Special kudos to the old thread about sharing spaces on Illuminations Cruises. I know the DIS doesn't support this any longer and 100% understand why, but this thread put me in touch with the woman who has become my very best friend. I asked about buying spaces in her boat in the spring of 2004, and here we are, twenty years later, messaging daily (sometimes several times a day) about everything in our lives. She lives outside of Philadelphia and I am outside of Bangor, ME, so we don't see too much of each other. We've managed to get together a few of times over the years (maybe 6, including strange things, like when she was on a cruise that stopped in Bar Harbor so I went out for the afternoon, or when I was visiting my sister in NOLA and my friend and her DH were embarking from their cruise while we were there... pretty odd timing for "unplanned" things!) but mostly stay in daily contact via Messenger.

Facebook- This is a mix of reasons. Like many, it got me back in touch with people I hadn’t seen or talked to in decades. It also opened an easier lifeline to people in my current day life that I don’t get to see as often. Sort of bittersweet, but it also helped illustrate that saying about how some people are in your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. Due to some college era moves, I didn’t live near any of my high school or college friends. I always wondered if those friendships would have lasted if we hadn’t moved. Facebook has allowed me to see that those specific people moved on from everything in their pasts. We have friends in common that still socialize, but my closest ones pretty much shifted away from everyone…meaning I would have also been out of the mix even if I’d been closer. So, it was a kind of closure…for which I’m grateful. There are also lots of helpful little groups on Facebook.

Forum groups- Obviously, I’m on here and enjoy posting and regularly reading threads like this one. I’m also on another Disney one and participate in a thread with a nice group of people. That’s also where I tend to share trip reports. Beyond this, I’ve found helpful forum groups for everything from baking and vehicles to photography and national parks.

YouTube- some of the chats are interesting when things are live. I used to chat a lot on the various DIS shows. These days, I do more in the way of chat stalking on the live cams for Katmai and the various underwater cams. The chats are a great way to see what’s been going on. It’s also nice that I can use this medium to save down my own video content.

The DIS absolutely counts! And it's my #1 for this category as well. - I'm very grateful for the friends I've made here and all the great info I've learned for Disney trips.

#2 is Instagram - I'm probably on it a bit too much, but I've definitely picked up life hacks, book recommendations, etc. Plus, DH and I often send each other cute or funny reels. (We call it the sixth love language.)

And for #3, I'm going to reach a little and count the New York Times games (Wordle, Nerdle, Connections...) I'm grateful for the games themselves, but also for the social routine of sharing your score every day. Besides the fun groups here, it gives me an "excuse" to check in on an older relative or two without looking like I'm checking in on them. 😉

Good Sunday Morning!

#1 - Keeping in touch with people - without it, I wouldn’t have any relationship with people I got to know from DD20’s travel ball days. These families aren’t local, so seeing them isn’t an option once their daughter stops playing or stops playing for our team/program.

#2 - Information - I get lots of information from all the social media I follow, especially TikTok. I follow some really cool DIY people and Disney info people.

#3 - Bonding with DD20 - We are constantly bonding with social media. We send/share with each other different TikToks and other social media pages almost every day. I love it when I’m at work and all of a sudden I get a text from her that’s sending me something to look at. Sometimes it really makes my whole day, especially when she’s 2 1/2 hours away at school.

Sunday:grouphug:friends,

This board and a used book swap site are the only two I am active in. I am old fashioned perhaps and have zero interest in Facebook, etc. I do know such sites can aid familied and friends with keeping in touch. Of course how grateful I am for that. I prefer a lower online presence. God has graced my life with connecting me to all of you and the kindness thread on here, too. Blessing indeed!

Not social media just through the internet via of course God, I am so grateful each Sunday to be able to watch online worship.

Wishing all of you a day of joy :)

First and foremost my very first social media is I do not do Facebook would be the DIS ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’ve met so many wonderful people I made so many friends here and across the pond. I’ve connected with so many people from cruising / DVC / theme park / our wonderful grateful thread
I absolutely love the DIS Boards I probably spend way too much time on it so much but I have learned so much and it helps in so many ways after half the time I get my news from here to because somebody will post it before it even hits the news apps

Pinterest - I can spend hours on Pinterest finding all kinds of interesting things to make or do I do enjoy being on Pinterest

Instagram the only other social media site I enjoy I follow a lot of horses because I enjoy horse racing ! I followed DISNEY of course I never post anything I just like keeping up with things

Google and YouTube videos - my go to for figure out how to do things that I do not know how to do or define things that I need to get - they have been a God send to me in helping me to fix or take care of something - Granted I found a lot of them on Instagram but if I can’t or I don’t off the Google I go The only thing I use more than the DIS is Google !!

I am grateful for past social media experiences which I made space for in my life. The very first was a Disney News Group that was the beginning of my transition from guidebooks to online WDW research. I read so many Trip Reports and took so many notes! I still have online friends from that time, but now we keep in touch on FB. If it wasn’t for Disney, the only other online experience from the 90’s would have been an XFiles group, where we traded theories about Mulder and the Cigarette Smoking Man!

FB: my daughter put me on FB when she was a freshman in college 20 years ago. I had resisted it, but she made a profile for me and everything. I am so grateful, especially for the reconnections I have made with elementary school friends and others in my life.

Before we had iPhones, we had Instant Messenger online. I actually printed some of the conversations I had with my daughter when she was in college. She and I are not phone people, so this was such a great tool to communicate with and it helped us to stay close when she was far away.

Coffee / Coffee /COFFEE!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Because of a auto immune bladder condition I have I’m not to drink coffee - to acidic - well I just can’t give up my coffee - I’ve scoured brands until I found one I can tolerate fairly well most of the time - Luckily for me they make a chocolate version❤️❤️ now if my condition is REALLY acting up which is rare since I try and avoid major triggers I will have to give up coffee for a couple weeks - I’m not a happy person when this happens !! Thankfully it’s rare !!

My Quiet time to look at the news / email / & the DIS - while I drink my COFFEE!!! I like my alone time and it’s quiet !!!

My morning routine - my coffee time / potty dog time & dog medicine ( it’s a routine some mornings to take the medication) / more coffee / make the bed / shower / tidy up the house / prepare for my work day by reading the DIS with wait for it …..more COFFEE 🤣🤣 I really hate my routine to be interrupted or thrown off schedule throws my whole day off!! Been my routine forever !! I get up to incorporate this into my schedule because I need this time to frame my mind for my day !!!

I look forward to chatting with my friend SLO every morning/ to doing SLO’s poll and then the Grateful thread ! My morning is not complete without these 3 things and I’m very grateful for all 3 !!! 😊❤️❤️

Good Morning and Happy July 1st!

#1 - Early Morning Workouts - I love how I feel after my early morning workouts 3 - 4 days a week. It sets a great tone for the rest of the day.

#2 - Productivity - I’m a morning person and I love getting stuff done early. I go to work at 8:30am, and before I leave the house I’ve done more than some people do an entire day. I’m not a night person, so after dinner I’m done - I don’t like doing chores at night and try to not have very many of them.

#3 - Social Media Time - Early morning is when I catch up on all social media. During the day I will glance at it, but I’m not very active since I’m at work, then home cooking dinner and then doing some misc things after dinner.
