Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Today's Topic (Wed. 11/30) - 3 movies or TV shows you've been grateful for
1. Outlander

2. All Creatures Great and Small, PBS (new series)

2. A League of Their Own, my favorite movie

There are so many others, too, but these were the first that came to me!

I can watch them over and over and appreciate the work that went into making them. :goodvibes

Omg Just 3 ! I’m old I’ve got tons !!!

I Love Lucy ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Casablanca ❤️❤️
Gone With The Wind
But seriously I could name a hundred movies I never miss and several old shows I always watch
Daniel Boone
Zorro
Most ALL Disney cartoons movies and shorts - especially the ones with Goofy - the really old ones where he’s showing you how to do things 🤣🤣🤣
Any good comedy movie - I could name a dozen I enjoy !!!
Im grateful always for my TV it’s always on just for me to hear it I'm working or cleaning - I’m not always sitting in front of it because if I was I’d fall asleep 🤣🤣🤣

1. "This Is Us" was therapeutic for me. There were a lot of similarities in how I grew up, and it gave me the opportunity to work through some issues. I DVR'ed it and only watched it when I was alone in the house so that I could cry freely.

2. "Love Actually" is my favorite Christmas/Romantic movie. The scene at the very end of the movie when everyone is at the airport being reunited with loved ones always makes me cry...but during and after lockdown when I hadn't seen my family in person and hugged them for 20 months, my heart ached watching that scene. The feelings that scene evoked in me were palpable. When I finally embraced them when we were reunited in August 2021, I just wept. Months later in December 2021, when we should have spent our first Christmas together since 2019, we all got Covid. I watched "Love Actually" again and just balled. Days later when we were all better, they came from NY and spent 30 minutes with us on our front lawn opening gifts and catching up. No hugs, but at least we saw their beautiful faces. Now we are trying to go see them this Christmas, and I pray that we will all stay healthy and finally be together to celebrate our first normal Christmas in three years.

3. "Planes, Trains, Automobiles," "Christmas Vacation," "The Ladies Man," basically any heartwarming comedy movies with John Candy, Chevy Chase, Jerry Lewis, Adam Sandler, and other comedic actors give me life. The belly laughs are so enjoyable and healing. I get so much joy from these talented actors.

Tom and Jerry
Bugs Bunny
He-Man and She-ra. Just googled it. They had a Christmas Special?? Downloading that now.
Home Alone
A Christmas Story
9 to 5
Stuber
Drunken Master with Jackie Chan
Ip Man
Say Anything
The Man from Snowy River
Better Off Dead
Can’t Buy Me Love
Black Beauty
Beauty and the Beast (the Black and white French version)
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
Trading Places

Today’s topic is hard - not because I can’t think of anything, but because I‘m thinking of way way more than just three, but I’m going to narrow it down.

Beverly Hills Cop - This is not a favorite movie, but has one of my favorite memories tied to It. My Grandma and I were very close and she‘d take me to the movie theater all the time - we watched so many movies together. The reason why BHC is special is because we had no idea what to expect, it was 1984 and I was 13yrs old. The beginning of the movie had more F-bombs than I had ever heard and my Grandma leans over and whispers to me, “Do not tell your mother I took you to see this.” So it was always our secret, because my mother would not approve - she’s never said a swear word in her life. I loved my Grandma so much, so I’m grateful for this movie that makes me think of this awesome lady every time I see it or hear the song Axel F. ❤️

Christmas Vacation - I’m grateful to this movie because it’s our families day after Thanksgiving movie every year. Our lives are busy, and this movie gives us a night to stop 🛑 and enjoy having a family movie night❤️

The High School Musical Movies - My girls and I loved loved loved watching these movies together. I actually cried at the end of the third one like these were my kids graduating from HS. DD24 has an amazing singing voice and when we were on our DCL in 2007, she was 9 years old and the second movie had just come out. There was a karaoke afternoon for kids and naturally she picked two HS musical songs and she owned that stage. Other parents stopped her to tell her how fantastic she did, and the cast members kept complimenting her and told other cast members about her awesome voice. Every time I hear these two songs I’m instantly taken back to that moment watching my little girl singing these songs like she was in the movie. I wish I had it on video, but I had no iPhone back then, so no video - sad, I would love to watch this again - she really was incredible ❤️

3 Movies/shows:

1. The Proposal - we took my grandmother in her late 80s to see it. She laughed and laughed, even though I doubt she got all the jokes. Betty White and Ryan Reynolds 😍

2. Titanic- such a sad event and story. It always fascinates me.

3. Grey's Anatomy - have watched since the pilot aired a million years ago. I've lived in 3 states, had my 11 year old, and owned 5 houses and it is STILL on.

I'm all about controlling mood so:

The Office is fun brain fluff that puts me in a nice mood before sleeping.
Schitt's Creek is hilarious if I need a laugh, amazing one liners and I think Moira is my favorite.
Gilmore Girls is my go-to show if I am upset or not feeling well, the banter and pretty settings are a useful distraction that get me through bumpy days.

Today's Topic (Wed. 11/30) - 3 movies or TV shows you've been grateful for

1. Movie--Titanic. I watch it over and over, crying my eyes out, and wishing I could change the ending. Everafter is another one I watch all the time. Something about the fairy tale aspect just draws me in, makes me feel like a child again and believing that there are happily ever after's in this world, as hard as it seems to be these days. That last line, 'what matters most is that they lived' chokes me up every time.
2. Greys Anatomy--have watched every single episode since it started, it's my Thursday night 'go to ' show
3. I too love Gilmore Girls (even my husband loved it). It's a dose of reality, blended with some of that 'Stars Hollow' magic
4. I have to add a 4'th. Survivor. I haven't missed one episode in all these years. While the last few seasons haven't been the greatest, I still watch , hoping for my favorite to win

WWE Wrestling - This is more of a category than a single show but wrestling gave me an identity as a kid. I was known as the wrestling fan and as a shy kid it opened the door to many great friendships as a youngster.

The Waltons - As a family, this has been our favorite show forever. So many great times watching and discussing this series.

Breaking Bad. - When my parents and I moved back in with each other nearly seven years ago I suggested we watch this show together each night as we had dinner. That lead to other shows and a mere tradition of watching something with our dinner that we still enjoy.

The Waltons - As a family, this has been our favorite show forever. So many great times watching and discussing this series.

The Waltons is one of mine as well! I had fond memories of it from when I was a kid, but I also re-watched it during the early days of the pandemic. The parallels of shortages and things were not lost on me, and it really made me feel like we could get through tough times, just like people did back then. I used to watch it while I sewed masks.

I'm also grateful for things I've watched with my DS over the years. It's nice to have something to connect with your kid over! There have been several, but I'll go with "The Parent Trap" (1998 version). I had loved the old Haley Mills one as a kid, and showed this one to my DS when he was little. It became our goto movie when he was sick or couldn't sleep.

And a timely one is the Hallmark movie "Journey Back to Christmas". It lives in my DVR all year, and I can always count on it to cheer me up when I'm having a tough day. 🎄 :goodvibes
