Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Well it doesn’t snow in August I’m grateful for that .., but…it’s one of the last months of 100 plus degree heat & humidity so I’m grateful it’s warm just wish it wasn’t SO warm ! 🤣🤣🥵🥵
I’m grateful it’s hot enough it kills my grass so it doesn’t have to be cut !! Seriously I am !! But we’ve been getting nonstop thunderstorms so my grass seems to be Lazarus it Keri’s coming back 🤣🤣🤣
I’m grateful we still have daylight at night so it seems like we have an evening to do things outside - such a shame this heat doesn’t kill off these dang bugs 🤣🤣🤣 taking the dog out is brutal once it gets dark !
I always find August sad - it’s the end of Summer- shorter days and colder weather coming - school starts in August and traffic gets worse and next thing you know it’s the Holidays ! Time is flying by !!

August -

1. Grateful for the great fruits and vegetables at the local farmers market. In our small town, ours is held every Tuesday evening and they have different organizations that have a cookout each week selling pork sandwiches, fried fish, etc so I always enjoy getting dinner from there on my way home from work.

2. Grateful for the last "hurrah" of summer. We've typically already taken our summer vacation, so August is kind of the chill month of summer. This year, we are going to the state fair to see REO Speedwagon with DHs 2 sisters and their husbands, so it should be a lot of fun. I haven't been to our state fair in years!

3. Grateful for the cooler evenings. Even thought it is still super hot during the day, in August, we start having cooler evenings which I love!

It always throws me a little that in (many?) parts of the US you're already looking at the end of summer and starting the new school year. Schools have only just broken up for the summer here. In fact, with all this rain, it still feels like summer hasn't quite started!!

Anyway, AUGUST...

1) Whether as a teacher or pupil --- no school!

2) When the weather is dry and warm, inside-outside living.

3) Relaxing ☺️

3 Thing You're Grateful for about August

August is when younger DS was born. He was a very large baby, 10lb. 4 Oz. I was SO happy when he was born. He’ll be 46 this year!

This August we will be meeting that DS and his family in Shenandoah NP for a couple of days.

Our Brown Turkey Fig tree should produce figs this month. Looking forward to the harvest!

August

1 Regular :sunny:

2 No birthdays, but this Friday will be dad's half birthday. Maybe I'll make a card just to bring him an extra weekend :)

3 I once read in a Baby-sitters Club book, a celebration that children in the neighborhood created called Augustania. It was celebrated the last Saturday of August. It sounded fun because the kids' combined parts of some of their favorite holidays into one day. I believe three of that day's events were a dog days of Summer parade where all the neighborhood dogs and their kid human, of course, walked in their neighborhood, a pool party, and a build your own sundae event. I could see our kind group having a blast creating our own celebration.

I second sunny day!

Squeezing in a last few summer social events (I think the urgency of September coming makes me a little braver about initiating plans).

The fact that fall is right around the corner - I'm always a little in need of routine by this point in the year!

3 fruits (or things made with fruit or fruit flavors) that you're grateful for

Fruits that I eat raw: apples, oranges, peaches, watermelon, pineapples blueberry, grapes, cherries, figs, raspberries, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and if I have forgotten any, I will come back and put them on the list.

Fruit that I bake into pies or like kind of desserts: apples, blueberries, strawberries ( with rhubarb), and peaches.

Fruit that I like in ice cream: strawberries and peaches.

Good Morning!

Quickie answers today…

#1 - Bananas

#2 - Watermelon

#1 & #2 are the only 2 fruits that I can eat with my UC

#3 - Almost all the fruit flavors in NutriGrain Bars - it’s my go to breakfast before I workout.

ETA….I just thought of another one - frozen peaches - I’m able to add a few pieces to my vanilla protein shake to give it some flavor.

Happy Watermelon Day Everyone!! 🍉🎉🍉

Fruit and fruity flavors... mmm.. there are so many it's hard to narrow down.

Cherry I'm not a fan of eating the fruit directly, but love cherry flavors. -- And you have lots of them in the US :thumbsup2 -- My mum used to make a cherry crumble, when I was a kid, which was lovely!

Peach I may have mentioned this one before!!!!!!! 🤣🤣

Pineapple In the heat, I always love the pineapple spears at Disney.

Pear Especially if you get to eat one in that 15 minute window when they're ripe, juicy, sweet, but not mushy! 😉

ETA: Also, bananas, cantaloupes, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, grapes, apples, plums (even harder to find that window than with pears!!)... Did I forget anything?! :rotfl:

Mango - a fruit I found later in life (I guess my parents didn't like them?? :confused3- For some reason, I never had them as a kid.)

Frozen Strawberry Fruit Bars - They were the thing I craved when I was pregnant with DS.

Apple Pie - The first pie I learned to make from scratch on my own as a young adult.
