:daisy:My Dad, whose birthday is in May!

Happy May, Everyone🌸

May this new month be one of new joy for each of you. Thank you, always, for being bringers of kind light to many including me.

1 Lighter days ahead, extra renewal, and peaceful hope. Definitely more budding blooms and trees. On my street every May, God also grants new life to the Jacaranda trees. They are such a pretty purple color that reminds me of my beloved grandma who like some of you, loved lilacs.

2 May is my birthday month and that of my cousin who along with his wife, dad and I are so blessed to have in our lives. God willing, in His time, it will be just wonderful to see them in person again. They live in TX.

3 "May, the words of my mouth and my heart's meditations, be acceptable to You, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer," is a daily prayer of mine.

I can't believe it's already May!!

I love the end of the school year in May - even though it doesn't affect my immediate family as much any more, it's just an exciting time of year - there are things hanging around town and lots of celebrations!

I love that it starts warming up (hopefully)!

I love the growing season in my community. The fields are being planted and will still start growing this month!

We loved the May/August schedule when we lived in TN. It felt like a longer summer. They go Sept/June here. It doesn't affect us with homeschooling, but I would hate it if she did go.

Sister

1. She's 5 years older and my go-to vent person

2. I don't think I could handle the stress of parents aging without her

3. She was my bad influence growing up and I took the blame for her at times. Other times I was her cover.

The best part was we had our own phone line and the number was 867-6767. Everybody in the world knew how to reach us. 🤣

I'm going to mix and match:

Grateful for my brother, for all the fun memories as kids, but especially now for all the help he gives my Dad (tech, yard work...) since dad moved closer to him.

Grateful for the teachers where I used to sub. - They really made me feel like an important part of the team, not an outsider!

And grateful for the Harry Potter books/movies - one of my favorite stories, as I'm sure I've posted before. :wizard:

I'm grateful for my sister - so glad we're still close!

I'm grateful that my kids get along well and will hopefully always have a strong sibling bond like they seem to now!

I'm grateful for the fun memories of growing up with a sister. Even though we were 5 years apart, she always looked older, so I probably got her in more trouble than I should have lol! Not that we did anything really bad, but we felt mischievous at the time!

Love my siblings...we are all very far apart in age so we never really had to deal with much for rivalry or anything-I think it helped us to remain close all these years

I am especially close to my older sister now-we are 7 years apart, but were both pregnant at the same time with our firsts...we bonded like crazy during that time

My older brother for being my other solid rock when we lost my father-him and I really were the glue that were able to think and act clearly when it came to his care

My little brother(11 years younger) was my little buddy-I learned so much while helping my parents with him. Having my first at 20 did not seem as daunting-I felt pretty ready for her

Bonus for my oldest sister-she brought me everywhere when I was younger and I was able to help her take care of her little ones so she could go back to school

We have all been able to support each other over the years and I truly am grateful for all that

I love reading do it nightly can’t imagine life without books !!! So grateful I know how to read and I enjoy it so much ❤️❤️

I find the Harry Potter books amazing - she is an awesome writer / those books have levels to them that are mind blowing - I’ve read them 3 times so far - she’s did such a great job on ALL of them !!

I hated school because I was so bored - I often read books in class - couldn’t wait to be done with school - I had two teachers I was very fond of and to this day I hope they are doing well

Sadly my family is horribly dysfunctional so no one speaks to anyone - I don’t speak to my only sibling and have no desire to as it’s not good for my mental health / my kids sadly are the same for same reason - mental illness runs in family and left unchecked it does massive damage that can’t be repaired - end result is people not speaking to each other and avoiding each other - nothing I can do about this I have tried - I’m now trying to make peace with myself as that is all I can do

As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned from these things - I’m trying to see the path and plan for me - it’s not the one I wanted so I am trying to accept that and take the one I’m being given - I’m learning to be grateful and I’m always grateful for my friends !!

Good Morning :)

1 Teachers, I also wasn't a 🏫fan. Here's to a few positive growing up year teachers in Ms. C, Mrs. E, Mr. J, and in college, Dr. E. Always, my greatest Teacher, God.

2 All of God's precious children I have had the humble privilige of learning with and from in school and church settings. Preschool on up.

3 :dogdance:sure make loving and wise furry teachers. Champ was one to me! He knew how to simply love, enjoy life with zeal, and spread joy.

1. Sisters—I have three. I am grateful for for some more than others 😂, but most grateful for the fact that we make a good team when it comes to our parents needing us. I remember one rough day that I was sitting in one hospital with one of my sisters waiting for our dad to come out of surgery while getting texts from another sister who was talking to doctors about my mom who was in another hospital. I definitely felt grateful that day that there were 4 of us.
2. I am grateful for the bond my younger two daughters share. They adore each other. DD 16 was just reminding me last night that it is only three days until her sister comes home from college for the summer. I do wish oldest DD had a similar bond with them, but I have hope that they will get closer to her as they get older.
3. Many wonderful teachers for me and for my girls. Definitely blessed.

Hello. I've once again wandered away from this thread and wandered right on back... May not try to catch up fully. *Edit* Or... maybe I will do every topic after all.

Today's Topic (Wed 4/26) - Stationary
You know, people assume that because I'm a "writer" (in the loose definition) that I must love journals, and special papers and stationary, and... nope. Not really. lol But I think I can still come up with three.
1. My thankful/Psalms journal. My mom has been keeping a thankful journal for years, where she lists three things a day she's thankful for. Our pastor challenged us to journal through the book of Psalms. After I ignored both nudging, God hit me (softly) outside the head (He has to to that a lot...), and I started it. Now it's part of my nightly routine.
2. Greeting cards
3. Stylus pens (I say this as though I actually use them as a stylus on a regular basis. I don't. But I still like them.

(Thurs, 4/27) - 3 things you're grateful for beginning with the letters "SM"
1. Small things. ('Cause I am one, so I need small things... Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to find a desk and chair for an adult under 5 feet tall? LOL)
2. Smiles (Yep. Definitely stealing that one. I especially love baby/kid smiles)
3. Smarts (Yeah, I'm going to steal this answer too.)

(Fri, 4/28) - any 3 things you're grateful for
1. That I had a good 10 year follow up with my orthopedist after my hip replacement. He said everything looks good, I don't have to pre-medicate before dentists appointments anymore, and he gave me a letter so I can finally get a chair that fits me at work. (See number 1 from Thursday). *Edited to add* The "finally" is all on me. I finally admitted I needed a better chair. It only took/takes my current chair giving me a static shock on a regular basis, and then deciding that's not something I should be "used to" to make me do something about it.)
2. Kaeden. I work with him one-on-one at Awana (Bible memorization program used at our church) and for the first time, he finished his book. I'm so proud of him. And he tells me he loves me at least once almost every week. And I love it. I'll share more if you send me a PM, but not comfortable sharing more on a public post.
3. That it's almost time for the children's musical at my church! (I'm a co-director under the main director) We had the parent meeting yesterday, I've been listening to the music and script, and it's starting to get real.

(Sat 4/29) - 3 cereals or breakfast foods you're grateful for
1. Cheese omelets/eggs and cheese. I've had one almost every day for breakfast since the age of three. You probably think I'm kidding. I'm not. Except for college when I had to eat what was available in the cafeteria, I've had eggs and cheese of some sort for breakfast almost every day.
2. Bacon
3. Chocolate chip pancakes

(Sun, 4/30) - 3 music-related things you're grateful for
First of all... only three?? I'm afraid I'm going to HAVE to break the rules for this one and do three theings in three categories, because... music makes my day every single day.
1. Songs: Goodness of God; All Sufficient Merit; I Know That My Redeemer Lives (the new version by Laura Story and Keith and Kristyn Getty)
2. Music Teachers/Music related people: The worship leader at our church; Mr. Varwig, my elementary music school teacher; Mr. Stacy, my high school band director (and so many others)
3. General Music things: Musical ensembles of all types; Joy FM, the Christian radio station in my area; Harmony! I LOVE songs that are easy to harmonize on.
I could go on and on about music, if you didn't already know that.

(Mon 5/1) - 3 things you're grateful for about May 🌸🌼🌺
Oh, this one is super easy for me...
1. My mom's birthday
2. My late grandmother's birthday
3. My birthday. I'll be the big 4-0 later this month... *runs away before anyone can ask her the exact date* (Kidding.... I'll let you know, if you want me too. I was already planning on trying to integrate it into my thankful post the day before or the day of, so... yeah. Today's doesn't count.)

(Tues, 5/2) - from siblings to books to teachers, and tell us 3 you're you're grateful for
I'm going to hit on each category.
1. Brothers and sister: I'm thankful for my two older brothers, but especially the one who lives with us (My mom, me, and him) because he takes care of the yard and other "manly" tasks so well
2. Teachers: My college professor who encouraged me tor write. I've already shared that story on here; My high school journalism teacher; My freshman science teacher
3. Books/Harry Potter: My hardback Harry Potter series that I bought for myself in 2021 with the accumulated Amazon gift cards I had.

Purchases:
1. My 2013 Highlander—my favorite vehicle I’ve owned. 145,000 miles and still going strong. I like it in the winter, like the color and how it looks and how it handles. The interior is comfortable and repairs have been few and far between. If it had a bit more cargo space it would be perfect.
2. DVC—not the right choice for everyone for sure, but we have enjoyed ours over the years and owning it basically forces us to take vacations. If we didn’t have it my DH would never make getting away a priority as work would always interfere. We bought in 1997 when it was way more affordable than it is now.
3. Home—it came with good schools for our kids, a big yard with room for them to run and play when they were little and although there are many, many things I would change about it, overall it was a good purchase.
